Bristol-based duo Firewoodisland and Ohio-based artist The Satellite Station have teamed up to create the indie-pop single, ‘Look Through’ which was released on the 8th of April via Firewoodisland and The Satellite Station. The single was mastered by Grammy nominee Dan Millice (Al Green, Ben Reactor). Firewoodisland previously released a delicate cover of Alphaville’s ‘Forever Young’ via Warner Music UK which was featured in an Airbnb advert and have had their music featured on shows such as Netflix's Shadowhunters and Global TV's NURSES amongst others. The Satellite Station has also seen his share of features, with his music appearing on Apple+, Netflix’s Love Is Blind and MTV, contributing to his play count of over 9 million streams across platforms. The Satellite Station is part of Alex Rainbird Records and has been supported by AirwaveMusicTV and Aperion to name a few.

Born and based in Akron, Ohio USA, The Satellite Station is the moniker of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Travis Rue. Known for his haunting folk-inspired melodies and emotionally deep lyrics, Rue’s storytelling shares his perspective on life and the challenges and joys of being human.

What started as a solo project is now the joint creative project of artists, multi-instrumentalists and songwriters Stian Vedøy and Abi Eleri. Hailing from a windswept west coast island of Norway, Stian met Abi after moving to Cardiff. The unique pair handles all creative assets in house, from audio to visual and have christened their sound as ‘Mountain Pop’, with inspiration from the likes of Bon Iver, Oh Wonder, Thomas Dybdahl, RyX and Bear's Den while creating their music. Their own sound calls to mind a perfect blend of organic and digital elements and the emotional stylings of Bon Iver, Novo Amor, James Blake and Vancouver Sleep Clinic.

‘Look Through’ takes the listener down a carefully crafted path of contemplation and escapism as Firewoodisland and The Satellite Station challenge traditional indie expectations with their cinematic sound. The single manages to take a serious topic and lends a little bit of light, kindness and hope to the scene with each note coloured in with a masterful production style.

The Satellite Station tells us about the creative process for ‘Look Through’: I was so excited to team up with Firewoodisland on this release, they are so talented and I have been a fan of their music for years. We really clicked during the writing process and wrote the song in 2 hours over a Zoom call.  We then produced the song together over a series of several Zoom sessions. It was an incredible collaborative experience.

Firewoodisland further elaborates on the creation of the single: “This song was the first time we have ever co-written and recorded with anybody over Zoom entirely. We set up our laptops and both played parts to each other, working out lyrics and instrumentation together. We also did the recording and producing in a similar manner. Despite never having met in person, Travis has become a good friend and working together has been super smooth and a blast. In the 21st century, it is possible to fully record and produce a track together from different continents in different time zones, having never met! I bet Travis is taller in real life than we both imagine him!”

Indie-folk artist Cujo Moon has released his latest EP, Horizons on the 3rd of June via Tone Tree Music / Cujo Moon. On the EP, listeners will find the previously unheard ‘Moonlight’ single which will be accompanied by an antique lyric video, compiled from clips of a 1928 educational film, as well as the recently released ‘In The Stars’, ‘Spirits’ and ‘Young Dreams’. Cujo Moon has received over 8 million plays across streaming platforms with support from Notion Magazine, CLASH Magazine, Under The Radar, and Atwood Magazine as well as landing on over 20 editorial playlists between Spotify, Apple, Amazon, Deezer, and Youtube. His single, ‘With You’ also caught the world’s attention when it appeared on NBC’s TV show This Is Us.

Born in Lexington, Kentucky and currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, Cujo Moon is known to his friends and family as Trevor Willmott, an avid music creator. The musician has found himself working in several bands over the years including The Wild Jays, Dream the Electric Sleep and one half of the duo Neon Rain. While working in his earlier bands, the singer was featured on Coldplay’s website for the song ‘To The Moon’ and shared a stage with the Mild High Club. With soft, intimate moments, Cujo Moon’s sound calls to mind the likes of Bon Iver, Ben Howard, and Jeff Buckley.

As the world tumbles, Cujo Moon creates his own little peaceful sanctuary in his latest EP. The Horizons EP takes a moment to look at the world, then reevaluate it through rose coloured glasses, adding tints of magic to the mundane. An EP for the romantic at heart, it takes each worldly struggle once insurmountable and makes them appear immediately less intimidating.

Cujo Moon tells us about the inspiration behind the EP: "I've always been drawn to very stripped down and lo-fi records like Pink Moon by Nick Drake, Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen, The Creek Drank the Cradle by Iron & Wine, For Emma Forever Ago by Bon Iver, and countless others. So for this EP, I tried my hand at a more raw and organic recording process using more acoustic instruments, tape machines, and analog gear. It's a little rougher around the edges but I think these songs needed that imperfection in order to remain honest. They are songs about life, love, and growing older. The EP title 'Horizons' represents how we often look to the past and future for answers but just like a 35mm photo, the distance can make it look or 'feel' fuzzy and uncertain."

Horizons EP Tracklisting

1. Moonlight

2. In The Stars

3. Spirits

4. Young Dreams

UK rock band Mellor has shared a live video performance of their latest single, ‘Gargoyle Groove’, which was released on the 12th of August. The video was filmed at Pyramid Recording Studios/InFocus Recording Co. in Reading, UK. The single premiered on Medium.com’s Pop Off and is the first to be shared from their forthcoming album, Problematic Passions, which is set to be released on the 11th of November via Triple B Records. Notably, their previous EP, Dive into the Strange, reached #2 on the iTunes rock album chart and #3 on the Amazon Music rock album chart. The band has already earned over 3 million streams across platforms with publication support from Louder Than War, The Hype Magazine as well as radio coverage from BBC Radio 1’s Abbie McCarthy and BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson amongst others.

The Reading-based band was started by Gary Kingham (lead vocal and guitar) and Josh Woodward (bass) who met in college, but, after a few auditions, recruited Sam Igoe (drums) and Kristian Bell (guitar). The members share a diverse range of inspirations, citing the likes of Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Biffy Clyro, Stone Roses, The Mars Volta, Libertines, The Smiths, Foo Fighters, Wesley Gonzalez, and Foals. Their sound can be likened to Arctic Monkeys, Foals, The White Stripes, and Pink Floyd.

Mellor dance on a knife-edge, executing their sonic ideas with surgical precision. Conceptually rich, ‘Gargoyle Groove’ explores the twists and folds of the human mind. Thrashing with insanity and stunning audacity, it builds ever towards a dangerous climax before plummeting off a sheer cliff, leaving behind a trail of crushed distortion.

Speaking about the track, Mellor tells us: “We’ve been playing and developing this song even since before Covid. It was one of the tracks that certainly set the tone for the album. It’s about a psychiatrist who gets a kick out of making people think they’re more ill or insane than they really are. Which is about as dark and manipulative it gets. The thing we love most about this track is the whole verse is just pedalling one chord, but the variants and melody around it meant Gary didn’t have to do anything else, it sounded great.”

Mellor Tour Dates 2022:

20th October - 33 Oldham Street, Manchester

21st October - Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh

27th October - The Star, Guildford

True-to-self Indie Folk singer-songwriter Land Of Trees will be releasing his latest single ‘There's No Blaming Time’ on the 10th of February ahead of his brand new album titled Things I Don’t Know.. Further, his music has features YouTube channels Sailing la Vagabonde, Mother The Mountain Farm, AlexRainBirdMusic and IndieVibes. Notably, his total stream count across platforms has reached 7.5 million streams and counting.

The interplay between gentle piano and acoustic guitar sets the scenic backdrop of Land Of Trees’ latest single ‘There's No Blaming Time’, a contemplative exploration of the fleeting nature of time. Taking responsibility for how he spends his minutes and hours, the Indie songwriter sings about how he is learning to accept that these shall pass, taking his frustrations with them.

Land Of Trees talks about his relationship with time: “Time can sometimes play the role of the evil villain, showing up at your worst moments to remind you that you haven’t lived up to your own expectations. It’s a fight we cannot win and after all, time is something we have designed on our own. So instead of blaming time, which is basically just blaming ourselves, accept the course of things and what you cannot change and stop wasting more time on the past, it is unchangeable.  Instead, be kinder to yourself and make the coming days, months and years count. You cannot change time, but you can change your mind.”

Born and Based in Sweden, Marcus Friman, known as Land Of Trees, is a nature-inspired musician who, with each song, tells the tale of a small-town boy, lost between pine trees but finding his way in a strange world. Enchanted by the mountains, he began using poetry to describe his surroundings, which he later floated on the river of music. Including his debut album, Wild Wind, the musician has released three full-length albums, with a fourth on its way. He cites The Tallest Man On Earth, Michael Kiwanuka, Ben Howard, Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, and Nathaniel Rateliff as his influences, while his style brings Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Vance Joy, and Novo Amor to mind.

Running wild across landscapes of folky colouration with bare feet, Land Of Trees introduces his brand-new album with an uplifting number. Titled ‘Giving You My Notice’, the record speaks of mistakes and unforgotten dreams, setting a tone of depth that the sincere songwriter carries throughout his LP.

Land Of Trees reflects: “‘Things I Don’t Know.. Yet’ is a step back to basics. When I recorded my first album, we recorded a lot of what you hear live. Since then I’ve been doing two albums with a lot of metronome-struggle and retakes. I realized I had to reset to where music mattered most. So this time we rehearsed it together thoroughly, stayed over at Studio Glasfågeln for the entire recording of the album and recorded almost everything live. It was such a great feeling to play off each other's tempo and spontaneity again; we had the best time playing and staying together, and I think it shines through in this record.”
