For WHO fans everywhere, the announcement of a brand new tour means only one thing:  the world’s most untameable rock band is about to deliver the goods once again. Never ones for nostalgia, singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend will be unleashing the combustible force that is The Who, with symphonic accompaniment this summer and fall in 2019.  Produced by Live Nation, The Who’s North American MOVING ON! TOUR will bring their indelible brand of powerhouse rock to 29 cities beginning in May (see tour itinerary below). The kickoff date is May 7 in Grand Rapids, MI with the band wrapping up the first leg of the tour June 1 in Toronto, ON. A much-anticipated series of fall dates will launch on September 6 in St. Paul, MN and conclude on October 23 in Edmonton, AB.  Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, January 18 at LiveNation.com.

The Who will also be releasing their first album of new songs in thirteen years later this year. On stage, the line-up will be rounded out by familiar Who players featuring guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Zak Starkey, and complemented by some of the best orchestras in the U.S. and Canada.

The Who’s fan club presale starts Wednesday, January 16 at 10am local time and runs through Thursday, January 17 at 10pm local time. Every pair of tickets purchased online includes a redeemable code for a CD copy of The Who’s forthcoming album when it’s released. This offer is available to US and Canada customers only and not valid for tickets purchased via resale. In addition, $1 from each ticket sold for the MOVING ON! TOUR will benefit Teen Cancer America (www.teencanceramerica.org.)

The tour is their first return to the states since their 2017 Las Vegas residency.  That same year they did a limited run of shows following 2016’s rescheduled leg of their acclaimed 50th anniversary celebration.  The band also drew praise for their extended 2012-2013 North American run, a 36 city Quadrophenia tour with the band performing their 1973 rock opera in its entirety.

Commenting on what WHO fans can expect on the 2019 MOVING ON! tour, Pete Townshend stated: ““The Who are touring again in 2019.  Roger christened this tour Moving On! I love it. It is what both of us want to do. Move on, with new music, classic Who music, all performed in new and exciting ways. Taking risks, nothing to lose. Looking forward to seeing you all.  Are you ready?"

Commented Roger Daltrey: “Be aware Who fans! Just because it's The Who with an orchestra, in no way will it compromise the way Pete and I deliver our music. This will be full throttle Who with horns and bells on.”

The Who are one of the top three greatest rock legacies in music history.  Their music provoked explosive change and spanned what many critics declare is rock’s most elastic creative spectrum, with Pete Townshend’s songwriting moving between raw, prosaic, conceptual, and expressively literate.  Their visionary sense of stagecraft headed by Roger Daltrey’s soaring vocal prowess is topped off by the band’s blistering rhythm section.  With both Roger and Pete delivering their own

memoirs in recent years (Pete’s Who I Am was released to much acclaim in 2012, and Roger’s autobiography, Thanks A Lot Mr. Kibblewhite; My Story, was embraced by critics in 2018) it’s fitting that the two remaining WHO members have shared their incredible legacy in literary fashion, for few bands have had a more lasting impact on the rock era and the reverberating pop culture than The Who.

Emerging in the mid-1960s as a new and incendiary force in rock n' roll, their brash style and poignant storytelling garnered them one of music's most passionate followings, with the legendary foursome blazing a searing new template for rock, punk, and everything after.  Inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990, the band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, placing 27 top-forty singles in the United States and United Kingdom and earning 17 Top Ten albums, including the 1969 groundbreaking rock opera Tommy, 1971's pummeling Live At Leeds, 1973's Quadrophenia and 1978's Who Are You.  The Who debuted in 1964 with a trio of anthems “I Can’t Explain,” “The Kids Are Alright” and “My Generation.” Since then they have delivered to the world hits such as “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Pinball Wizard,” Who Are You,” and,” You Better You Bet.”

In 2008, they became the first rock band ever to be awarded the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors. The Who has performed all over the world including global music events for the Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show in 2010 and closing the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The Who continued their charity work by playing a concert in January 2011 to raise money for trials of a new cancer treatment called PDT. In December 2012 they performed at the Hurricane Sandy Benefit in New York. In January 2014 they played a set on the U.S. television special to support the charity Stand Up To Cancer. In November 2012 Daltrey, with Townshend at his side, launched Teen Cancer America. The charity is now established in the USA, with offices in Los Angeles and devoted Teen Cancer units being opened in hospitals all over the U.S. TCA’s work has impacted over 5,000 young people and their families nationwide during the last six years.

Legendary rock band The Who will be revving up their acclaimed MOVING ON! TOUR for a handful of rescheduled shows next spring, returning to the U.S. to perform shows that were postponed during the fall leg of the tour due to singer Roger Daltrey’s brief illness. The revised dates include stops in three cities originally scheduled on the historic 2019 run which featured the iconic band with symphony backing.  The 2020 rescheduled shows will take place in Dallas, TX on April 27, Houston TX, on April 30, and Denver, CO on May 2. All tickets for original dates will be honored.

The spring and fall legs of the MOVING ON! TOUR have generated the most unanimous outpouring of acclaim from critics and fans of any live rock show of 2019.  Singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend’s pairing with acclaimed local symphony orchestras each night won raves across North America, with critics also hailing the duo’s intimate acoustic numbers as a once-in-a-lifetime rock experience. “They’re not getting older. They’re getting better. You better, you better, you bet.” hailed the Worcester Telegram, with Pollstar Magazine affirming “Daltrey is in peak form, and so is Townshend, lavishing his trademarked windmill guitar motion.”

The full live band, which includes guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Zak Starkey, passionately performed THE WHO’s many classics, as well as some songs from The Who’s brand new album, titled WHO, their first full-length album in 13 years, available everywhere December 6.  The orchestral dynamic delivered by local symphonies each night put an indelible stamp on the music’s timelessness with the chemistry between Roger and Pete delivering on their trademark cathartic and emotional power.  The new single ‘All This Music Must Fade,’ has also drawn praise as “The Who’s defiant post-script” by The New York Times.

Produced by Live Nation, The Who’s North American MOVING ON! TOUR brought the band’s signature brand of powerhouse rock through 29 cities, including a rollicking sold-out barn-burner in Boston’s famed Fenway Park, and a memorable Seattle show where Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder joined them onstage for a rousing version of “The Punk And the Godfather,” with Eddie’s wife and daughter in attendance.  The tour also wound down in grand style, with a series of October shows at LA’s historic Hollywood Bowl, the first time the band played three dates at the landmark venue during one touring cycle.

For more information about The Who’s rescheduled April/May 2020 dates, visit LiveNation.com or thewho.com.

Every pair of tickets purchased online includes a redeemable code for a CD copy of The Who’s forthcoming album when it’s released. This offer is available to US and Canada customers only and not valid for tickets purchased via resale. The Who release the third track from their forthcoming critically acclaimed album WHO which will be released on December 6th on Interscope Records.

The new song ‘I DON’T WANNA GET WISE’ is described by Pete Townshend, ‘I wrote this in a mid-‘70s style, like a song from an album like ‘WHO BY NUMBERS’. Warning: don’t get old. You might get wise’.

The bonus tracks for the deluxe versions of the album have also been revealed including two previously thought ‘lost’ tracks from the 1960’s - ‘Got Nothing To Prove” and ’Sand’. The former on the deluxe CD and the latter on the triple red, white and blue colored vinyl edition.

Of these tracks, Pete Townshend recalls “Both these songs are from the Summer of 1966; they would not have been rejected by the band members but rather by my then creative mentor, Who manager Kit Lambert. In 1967, when the song seemed destined for the bottom drawer, I did offer ‘Got Nothing To Prove’ to Jimmy James and the Vagabonds who used to support us at The Marquee in 1965. I remember playing him the demo at my house in Twickenham. They were still managed by Peter Meaden who had been so influential on me in particular in the short period he was our PR man in late 1964. Jimmy liked the song, and suggested making it more R&B, in a slower tempo, but nothing happened. I have a feeling Kit may have felt the song sounded as though it was sung by an older and more self-satisfied man than I was in real life. That would have applied to Roger too I suppose. Now, it works. Back then, perhaps it didn’t. Dave Sardy and I decided to ask George Fenton to do a “Swinging Sixties” band arrangement to make the song more interesting, but also to place it firmly in an Austin Powers fantasy. I love it”

Of the track “Sand” that will be released as a red vinyl 10” as part of the triple vinyl package, Pete says, “’Sand’ came from the same period. This is a simple idea, about a sunny beach vacation romance that doesn’t last once the lovers get back home to the rain. Again, Kit passed on this, even as an album track, and it simply got filed away. I have always loved it, but have been waiting for computers to get smart enough to fix some of the tape stretch problems that had affected the demo. I also revived this in my home studio by doing roughly what I felt the Who would have done had this ever been recorded by them. So there is added backing vocals, Rickenbacker, and acoustic 12 string, and a feedback section to properly evoke the era. These probably really belong on one of my Scoop albums, but I did present them to our A&R man Richard O'Donovan who felt, and I agree, that these two tracks remind new Who fans of the lo-fi method that all Who songs came from in the early years, and the sheer joy I experienced of being a One-Man band in my home studio, long before such things were common. This is Who history after all, and it doesn’t all belong to Obsessive Collectors.”

The deluxe CD of WHO also features “This Gun Will Misfire” and “Danny & His Ponies,” two tracks recorded and sung by Townshend during the sessions for the album.

The eleven-track album was mostly recorded in London and Los Angeles during Spring and Summer 2019 and was co-produced by Pete Townshend & D. Sardy (who has worked with Noel Gallagher, Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, Gorillaz) with vocal production by Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, Roger Daltrey, Wilko Johnson). Singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend are joined on the album by long-time Who drummer Zak Starkey, bassist Pino Palladino along with contributions from Simon Townshend, Benmont Tench, drummers Carla Azar and Joey Waronker, bass player Gus Seyffert and Gordon Giltrap.

The album cover has been created by famed pop artist, Sir Peter Blake who first met the band in 1964 at a taping of the legendary TV show Ready Steady Go. Sir Peter designed and contributed a painting to the sleeve of The Who’s album Face Dances in 1981.

The songs on WHO cover a myriad of subjects including the Grenfell Tower fire, musical theft, spirituality, reincarnation, the power of memory and ‘an old rock star that has lost his marbles’. Singer Roger Daltrey rates it amongst their strongest “I think we’ve made our best album since Quadrophenia in 1973, Pete hasn’t lost it, he’s still a fabulous songwriter, and he’s still got that cutting edge”.

After their triumphant return to Wembley Stadium in the Summer, the band will be embarking on a UK tour featuring a full orchestra in Spring 2020, the dates are listed below.

Legendary rock band The Who have announced they’ll be moving on in 2020 with more tour dates, not quite ready to close the books on their acclaimed MOVING ON! TOUR, which paired Singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend with local symphony orchestras across North America and was hailed by critics as a once-in-a-lifetime rock experience.  Along with a series of rescheduled shows announced earlier in the month (see complete list of dates below) the band has expanded their 2020 itinerary to include a show on April 21 in Hollywood, FL (Hard Rock Live), April 23 in Cincinnati, OH (BB&T Arena at Northern Kentucky University), and a series of six shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, NV kicking off on May 5 and running to May 16 (see dates below). Tickets will be available at Ticketmaster.

The Who’s April 23rd show in Cincinnati will have added historical significance as it will be the first time the band will be performing in the city since eleven lives were tragically lost as the concert crowd waited to get into The Who’s concert on December 3, 1979.  The historic show was announced last night by local Cincinnati TV station WCPO after airing a documentary special commemorating the 40th anniversary of the tragedy – The Who: The Night That Changed Rock. Pete and Roger were both interviewed for the special program along with long-time manager Bill Curbishley. The Who will make a donation from the concert to the P.E.M. Memorial, the organization that was founded to honor friends and classmates that lost their lives at the December 3rd, 1979 concert, providing college scholarships for students at Finneytown High School.

As always, the upcoming shows will feature THE WHO’s full live band comprised of guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button, drummer Zak Starkey and backing vocals by Billy Nicholls along with orchestra conductor Keith Levenson, lead violinist Katie Jacoby and lead cellist Audrey Snyder, passionately delivering THE WHO’s many classics. As well as some songs from The Who’s brand new album, titled WHO, their first full-length album in 13 years, available everywhere this Friday, December 6. The recent single ‘All This Music Must Fade,’ has also drawn praise as “The Who’s defiant post-script” by The New York Times.  A recent Rolling Stone feature proclaimed the album a worthy addition to their canon, noting the above-mentioned track and “Street Song,” citing “Daltrey’s anguished vocal” as “among the more moving performances of his career.”

Local symphonies will again be joining The Who for the 2020 shows, putting their indelible stamp on the music’s timelessness in support of Roger and Pete’s trademark emotional power. The 2019 spring and fall legs of the MOVING ON! TOUR generated the most unanimous outpouring of acclaim from critics and fans of any live rock show this year, winning raves across North America for the orchestral dynamic as well as the duo’s cathartic rock firepower and intimate acoustic numbers. “They’re not getting older. Multi-faceted singer/songwriter A.J. Croce is hitting the road again in celebration of two more of his father Jim Croce’s legendary albums, 1973’s Life and Times and his final release, I Got A Name, in addition to songs from You Don’t Mess Around With Jim. The much-anticipated fall tour, Croce Plays Croce 50th Anniversary commences in mid-October with the first announced date being Springfield, MA on October 27, and includes shows through November and December in historic venues like New York City’s Town Hall and Detroit’s Royal Oak Music Theatre.

The Croce Plays Croce 50th Anniversary show features a legendary band (including drummer Gary Mallaber, bassist David Barard, guitar/violin James Pennebaker) and a moving multi-media presentation accompanying Jim’s songs (which on the previous tour included memorable hits, “Operator (That’s Not the Way It Feels)”, “Time in a Bottle,” and others). It was fan-demand for more, and the camaraderie that A.J. felt with the audience, the players, and the connection to his father’s timeless music that inspired A.J. to embark on the 50th Anniversary tour for 2023. “The audience reaction has been so great,” says A.J. “The shows we did last year were not only met with a huge response, but I learned so much about what works and what resonates, we knew we had to keep going.”

The gifted multi-instrumentalist says besides the two albums Life and Times and I Got A Name, tracks from the popular You Don’t Mess Around With Jim - which fueled last year’s run - will also be part of the new show. “We’ll be playing songs representative from all three albums, and also some songs the audience might not know from more obscure artists that I realized connected me and my father. It was those songs that eventually led me to do this show in the first place.”

BMG has 50th anniversary editions of Life and Times and I Got A Name planned for release in the summer. These will be limited color vinyl pressings of each album to celebrate this momentous anniversary and a special box set, among other promotions.

You Don’t Mess Around With Jim

During last year’s raved-about performances, A.J. shared intimate aspects of his dad’s career. He also drew praise for his own style and musicianship (he’s known for one of the most unique keyboard styles in music) as well as his sensitive insight into Jim Croce’s enduring musical canon. While Jim Croce’s indelible music catalog still resonates on classic radio, streaming platforms, and more recently on hit films and TV shows like Django Unchained and Stranger Things, it is A.J.s unique showmanship that has helped enliven Jim’s amazing legacy.  One reviewer aptly noted: ‘…A.J. Croce invites the sold-out crowds into his father’s worldview and work mindset, culminating in the playing of Jim Croce tunes…making for an intimate experience riddled with wryness and humor...’

A.J. says the upcoming Life and Times and I Got A Name shows will continue to be fresh and spontaneous.  “People were surprised when they came that the show wasn’t just Jim Croce’s ballads,” he says. “I think one of the things the audience will appreciate if they haven’t seen us yet, is how alive these songs sound.  All the musicians have a level of improvisation that makes it a lot of fun.”

Life and Times

The two Jim Croce albums that turn 50 in 2023 are considered among Croce’s finest, with Life and Times, originally released in January of 1973, delivering the game-changing hit “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,” which became the Songwriter’s Hall Of Fame inductee’s calling card, hitting #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, and ranked as the #2 song for all of 1973.  I Got A Name was his final studio album (and the first posthumous release by Jim), with the title song being released the day after his tragic plane crash which occurred on September 20, 1973. The album also featured the smash hit ballad “I’ll Have to Say I Love You In A Song,” and “Workin’ At The Car Wash Blues,” among others.

Ahead of the anniversary tour, fans have their calendars circled for a particularly special performance on September 21, when A.J. will perform at Los Angeles’ legendary Troubadour club, the classic West Hollywood venue where his father performed July 20-23, 1973, 50 years ago. “All the shows before we do that one will be fun, but the Troubadour will be a real labor of love,” says A.J. “Doug Weston, who I knew and was the original owner had a knack for booking artists about to break a year in advance, so they’d have to come back off a big tour and do this intimate, 500 seat place. I’m thrilled I’ll get the opportunity to play where my father did 50 years ago when he was just beginning to achieve stardom.”

I Got A Name

Fans and critics who attended last year’s 50th Anniversary Celebration shows are thrilled that A.J. is readying another affectionate interpretation of his father’s enduring legacy. The shows have renewed interest in Jim Croce and garnered praise for A.J: “I think they come as a Jim Croce fan but also leave as fans of mine. That’s something that has also made this whole experience really amazing.”

Roger Daltrey - legendary rock icon and co-founder of one of music’s most inspirational and influential forces, The Who, will be returning to the States on a special solo tour this June, presenting a mostly acoustic set of Who gems, rarities, solo nuggets and other surprises with an intimate rock-based band and setting as well as answering questions from the audience, kicking off this very exclusive set of shows on June 12th at Virginia’s renowned Wolf Trap Filene Center. The nine-city run will continue throughout the month of June (see dates below), wrapping on June 29th at The Pavilion at Ravinia in Highland Park, Illinois.

Special guests for the much-anticipated performances include Grammy-nominated Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall and acclaimed, offbeat singer/songwriter Dan Bern.   The unique venues and amphitheaters Daltrey has chosen for his summer run will showcase Daltrey’s acoustic interpretations of his extraordinary canon of Who songs and solo work, supported by a hand-picked ensemble of musicians. Simon Townshend – guitar, Billy Nicholls – mandolin, Jody Linscott – percussion, Doug Boyle – guitar, John Hogg – Bass, Katie Jacoby – violin, Steve Weston – harmonica, Geraint Watkins – keyboards/accordion, Scott Devours – Drums.

Daltrey’s return to the States follows The Who’s incredibly successful THE WHO HITS BACK! Tour of 2022, with the band’s incomparable frontman drawing praise from all media platforms, including the Dallas Morning News, which said, ‘Daltrey took flight…roaring and howling and ripping his mic cord through the air like he was lassoing cattle…’ The charismatic singer also brought a highly successful solo tour to the States in 2018 via a 10-city run that showcased The Who’s legendary rock opera TOMMY, supported by full orchestral backing.  Never content to rest on his laurels, the adventurous artist will continue to peel back the layers on his upcoming June tour, excited about expressing more musical shades of his solo palette, which he has generously shared with audiences in the U.S. and beyond throughout his career.

Also known to be one of rock’s more candid, straight-shooters, the working-class Daltrey (originally from London’s Shepherd’s Bush) will answer questions from the audience during the shows, sharing anecdotes and offering up uniquely tailored renditions of songs seldom performed live either by The Who or Daltrey.
In crafting this completely new show set to kick off in June 2024, Daltrey looks forward to unveiling one of his more intimate and unique stage shows, an up close and personal gift to his fans that highlights Who rarities, solo hits, and other songs from his incredible near 60-year career.

Roger Daltrey, Teenage Cancer Trust’s Honorary Patron and co-founder of Teen Cancer America (with Pete Townshend) recently added harmonica to a historic recording. On March 15, Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler released a new, special recording of his anthemic composition, “Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)” featuring over 60 of the finest rock performers ever assembled on one iconic track, including members of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, The Who, Pink Floyd, Queen, Black Sabbath, Rush, Guns N’ Roses, and many more. The milestone release, currently available to order, will raise funds for Teen Cancer America and its UK equivalent Teenage Cancer Trust.
