Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad's Make It Better has debuted at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart. Make It Better (released September 16, 2016 on Rootfire Cooperative) is the band's sixth studio album and their second release to claim the #1 spot on the Billboard Reggae Chart.

"It's great to see Panda fans embracing their new album and connecting to it on so many levels," says Seth Herman founder of Rootfire Cooperative. He adds, "Over the past 15 years, Panda has been able to successfully traverse many styles with a level of musicianship, passion, and dedication that is relentless. Make It Better is another step in that direction with a relevant theme that is current, but will also stand the test of time."

The new album from the Rochester, New York-based quintet addresses the theme and title of the album, not just through music, but through art, conversation, and everyday living. With children, families, and age, the band has made an effort to focus on the economics of time: how to spend it together efficiently while pursuing goals with intention. This vision helped shine new light on the importance of capturing and sharing recorded moments more frequently. The result is the band's finest work to date.

You can catch them in Denver on Saturday, February 18 @ Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom.

Four years into an impressive career and one year after the the release of their debut album, Boston-based reggae rock band The Elovaters announce the October 26 release of their sophomore album Defy Gravity on Rootfire Cooperative. The not-for-profit record label has been featured in Billboard and Forbes magazines as a disruptive force in the modern music industry, providing zero-interest loans and label services, and empowering artists to break beyond the confines of the traditional record label system. Available with the pre-order of Defy Gravity is the album’s first single “So Many Reasons.”

After spending the year touring the country coast to coast as support for acts like Ziggy Marley, Stick Figure, and the Easy Star All-Stars, The Elovaters were eager to get back in the studio to record more music, traveling to White Star Sound, a state-of-the-art studio housed in a barn in the middle of an expansive farmland just outside Charlottesville, VA.

Working with producer Danny Kalb (Beck, Ben Harper, The Movement, HIRIE), the band was able to explore different aspects of the sound that made its first album so popular. "Working with the Elovaters was a dream,” says Kalb. “Each person in the band brought outstanding and unique musicality. You voltron those six together, and you get a really special album. The head of the super robot is Jackson, and he has one of the best voices I've ever worked with. The album is beautiful, catchy, and timeless. I can’t wait for people to hear their music.”

From “Cool Down,” which reminds its listeners to slow down and live in the moment to “Gonna Shine,” which tells its listeners that no matter how much darkness exists light can always shine through, the album is all about providing positive vibes. While “Meridan” switches things up and features The Late Ones and a hip-hop influence, “So Many Reasons” brings the band back to its roots, with a progressive reggae sound that pushes fans to appreciate the reasons they’re in love. Whether working from an office or sitting on the beach with a cold beer, The Elovaters provide their listeners with warm sonic sunshine.

Inundated with news of political unrest and another mass shooting each week, the band began to notice a sense of division, hatred, and an overall feeling of depression both in its community and around the country. As the band members began seeing this sense of depression affect both their attitudes and the attitudes of others, they realized they had to turn to the one thing they knew that could uplift us all, that could keep us hopeful: love. Defy Gravity is about just that, the debilitating forces that try to convince people that they’re not good enough or that they’re not deserving of love. The band hopes that the music on the album can lift people up the way it did when they created it, allowing them to “defy gravity” and remain hopeful and positive no matter their life circumstance.

With plans to tour in support of the album, the band has just signed with Madison House booking agency. Lead singer Jackson Wetherbee is excited for fans to hear the new songs live where they take on a whole new energy: “I think that’s something that our fans have come to enjoy about our live performances. The music is going to sound like the album but you’re also going to feel it in a totally new way.”

Formed in 2014, The Elovaters are Jackson Wetherbee (lead vocal, rhythm guitar), John Alves (lead guitar), Nick Asta (drums), Matt Link (bass), Derrick Cabral (percussion), and Greg Nectow (keys). With Defy Gravity, the band is excited to have its fans hear the next evolution of its sound.

After working on the songs for the past year, everything is dialed in and sounding just right. Now all that’s next is for the world to hear it. Be on the lookout for the album, dropping on Rootfire Cooperative October 26, 2018, with fall tour plans in the works.

Punk reggae rockers Bumpin Uglies have announced that they will be releasing a new studio EP entitled Buzz. The EP, in conjunction with Ineffable Music Group’s label arm Ineffable Records, will be available on all digital outlets on March 22, 2019.

Bumpin Uglies are fresh off the success of their 2018 album Beast From The East, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard reggae chart and won Reggae 360’s annual “Album of the Year” contest. Buzz Magazine raved that the album was “a carefully crafted punk-reggae gem,” and The Pier said the “album has something for everyone, from hip-hop to harder rock, with stripped-down ballads in between.”

Like their previous effort, Buzz will be produced by Howi Spangler, frontman of Ballyhoo!, with features on the record including other friends from the east coast reggae scene like Tropidelic.

Bumpin Uglies

Based in Annapolis, Maryland, Bumpin Uglies have been playing lyrically-driven ska punk reggae for a decade now. Their invite-only facebook fan group, Uglies Nation, is one of the largest and most active in the nation with over 7,000 active and passionate members.

Regarding the EP’s release, frontman and songwriter Brandon Hardesty can’t wait for the fans to hear what they’ve put together: “We experimented with some new sounds and styles with these tunes and we’re stoked to get them out into the world! This is undeniably our biggest sound to date, and we can’t wait for Uglies Nation to sink their teeth into it. “

Partnership with Ineffable Music Group’s label arm Ineffable Records

Wachusett Brewing Company announces its first ever music industry collaboration with its new partnership with reggae and dub music star Stick Figure.  The first beer, “COCOANUT IPA”, is a tropical, fruit forward IPA infused with natural coconut. A portion of the proceeds of all sales will benefit Stick Figure’s Cocoa Foundation, which brings assistance to the people and families that provide shelter to animals without homes.

"We are so excited to work with our favorite local brewery to craft the perfect summertime IPA with just the right blend of hops and coconut flavor,” said Stick Figure Frontman, Scott Woodruff.  “Growing up in Massachusetts, Wachusett was always the most authentic brewery and really fits the Stick Figure lifestyle. Having this collaboration benefit the Cocoa Foundation is an added bonus as we look forward to Wachusett's 25th anniversary and this summer time release!" Woodruff concluded.

“I can’t even express in words how excited I am about this partnership,” said Ned LaFortune, Founder/CEO of Wachusett Brewing Company. “I have been a huge fan of Scott and the band for years.  To be the first brewery they have ever worked with and have it coincide with the celebration of our 25th anniversary is a dream come true” LaFortune concluded.

COCOANUT IPA will be released in 16oz cans and draft this year with availability throughout New England starting June 1st as a lead up to the band’s appearance at the 2019 Levitate Music and Arts Festival in July in Marshfield, MA.

The ever-evolving and highly-anticipated Levitate Music & Arts Festival is proud to highlight local performing and visual artists for its seventh annual event to take place on July 12-14, 2019 at the historic Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Unlike other major festivals across the nation, Levitate organizers have continued to feature an ever increasing number of truly local artists, with the 2019 event promising to be both the largest to date and most locally-flavored.

Levitate presents headlining national powerhouse, Tedeschi Trucks Band, on Friday, fronted by Norwell’s own, Susan Tedeschi. Saturday and Sunday performances open with local bands Surfliner and Not Today, and feature a wide range of acts with local roots throughout the weekend.

Local reggae musician, Stick Figure, has grown alongside the festival, playing every year since its inception. Stick Figure, known well within the South Shore community as Scott Woodruff, grew up just a few minutes from the Marshfield Fairgrounds. Both starting out with small crowds, Stick Figure and Levitate have experienced exponential growth in tandem with one another. Stick Figure now headlines venues with up to 10,000 fans while Levitate has expanded to a three-day celebration with over 15,000 attendees per day.

Woodruff has expressed his excitement at seeing the festival’s growth in his home community, “To bring this from a little small town festival to something massive is something to be proud of. It’s a big accomplishment, everything they’re doing for the community. It’s something special.”

Meanwhile, lead-singer Jackson Wetherbee and his band, The Elovaters, grew up just down the street from Woodruff (Stick Figure). Last year was the band’s first time playing at Levitate Festival. In the past year, they have grown tremendously, releasing an album that hit #1 on the Billboard reggae charts and embarking on a US tour with Stick Figure. Their Boston-roots showed after they contacted the Boston Red Sox regarding playing Elovaters hit song “Boston” at the 2018 World Series parade. The Sox listened and featured the song during the parade to be heard by the entire city.

Nominated as “Music Festival Of The Year” by Pollstar in 2017, Levitate Music Festival began as a 10-year anniversary celebration for a locally beloved surf and skate shop. The event’s authentic roots, unique lineups, and exceptional food and art continue to contribute to the growth of Levitate into one of the most loved and respected music and arts events in the region.

For the first time, Levitate is expanding to three days by way of adding a very special Friday night in 2019, featuring a half day of music on the main stage with gates opening at 4:00 PM. Gates will open at 11:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday. Alongside performing acts, all three days will feature local visual artists, including New Hampshire-based Sam Malpass, creating a mural and live painting throughout the day on Sunday. Attendees should also expect over 90 local craft and artisan vendors to complement their live music and art experience.

Singer-songwriter and folk mainstays Trevor Hall and Citizen Cope will co-headline the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on May 1st, 2020, with multi-instrumentalist sisters Rising Appalachia, performing on the bill as well.

Trevor Hall has spent 2019 touring extensively and working on new music, including releasing single “Strength in One,” his first release since his critically acclaimed independent release The Fruitful Darkness (June 2018), which debuted at #4 on the iTunes alternative chart.

Speaking to his fans, Trevor Hall says, “It is through your incredible LOVE and SUPPORT that all of this is possible. I feel so blessed to be a part of this community ... to share in the healing balm of sound and music with all of you. I don't know where I'd be without it. To have the opportunity once again to share our music with you all in such a sacred and EPIC place like Red Rocks brings me to my kneeeeeeees.”

Hall returns to Red Rocks shortly after a co-headliner with Nahko and Medicine for the People at the legendary amphitheatre on June 16, 2019.

Limited fan club tickets are available NOW: https://bit.ly/37eQBg1

Raised on an island in South Carolina, singer/songwriter Trevor Hall realized at a young age that music was more than just a passion - it was, rather, his life’s art. At sixteen, he recorded his first album, soon after which he left South Carolina for Idyllwild Arts Academy in California where he studied classical guitar and was introduced to the practices of yoga and meditation, which would greatly influence his life and his music.

Hall’s music, a blend of roots and folk music, is imbued with a deep love of Eastern Mysticism. This powerful symbiosis fostered a deep connectivity with his growing fan base and Trevor quickly matured into a leader of the burgeoning conscious musical community. Along with numerous pilgrimages to India, he has also completed a series of sold-out tours and collaborations with artists such as Steel Pulse, Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Franti, Xavier Rudd, John Butler Trio, Matisyahu and Nahko & Medicine for the People.

Citizen Cope launched 2019 by releasing his critically acclaimed independent album Heroin & Helicopters. Throughout the years, Cope has received praise from critics, despite little commercial or mainstream backing.  “Let The Drummer Kick” went Platinum without any support from commercial radio. The Washington Post has hailed him as “DC’s finest export since Marvin Gaye,” while Rolling Stone raved that his “uncommon chords and harmonies combine delicate dissonance with unexpected flashes of beauty.

Cope’s music has been covered by anyone from Carlos Santana and Sheryl Crow to Richie Havens and Rhymefest, and Cope has headlined all 50 states and shared stages with superstars like Eric Clapton, who invited him multiple times to perform at his annual Crossroads Guitar Festival, most recently playing just a few months ago.

Rising Appalachia, formed by sisters Leah and Chloe Smith, have formed an international fan base due to relentless touring, tireless activism, and no small degree of stubborn independence. Leah and Chloe grew up in urban Atlanta as the city’s hip hop scene began to flourish. They absorbed those rhythms through the music they heard at school, then traveled with their family to fiddle camps all across the Southeast on the weekends, influences that undoubtedly influence their sound today

Levitate's signature summertime celebration of music and art is back for its 9th annual celebration this July 8, 9 & 10 at the Marshfield Fairgrounds! The  largest iteration yet of the beloved homegrown festival, Levitate will bring its signature blend of world class artists and emerging local acts.

This year’s event shapes a significant chapter of the Levitate tale. For a festival which started as a 10-year anniversary celebration for the locally beloved Levitate surf and skate shop, Jack Johnson’s involvement and commitment to the event over the course of pandemic-related postponements holds particular value. Jack Johnson’s involvement highlights both his music and his beliefs that the Levitate brand also shares. These beliefs include enhancing community, environmental awareness and action, and culture.

In addition to Jack Johnson, the 2022 lineup is loaded with world-class talent. In typical Levitate fashion, this year’s headliners are an eclectic blend of styles and genres. Phil Lesh steps in as an American Jam band legend and original member of The Grateful Dead, the ever elusive Vulfpeck makes their debut New England appearance, and Stick Figure returns to their hometown as a leading force in reggae and the most listened to reggae artist worldwide behind Bob Marley.

The significance surrounding the return of this year’s Levitate Festival is not lost on its founder  Dan Hassett: “Never before has our mission to Levitate communities and bring people together through surf, music, art, and the outdoors felt so timely and appropriate. The opportunity to bring our community back together couldn’t come at a better time.”

The launching of the festival coincides with the formalization of the Levitate Foundation which was recently approved for 501(c)(3) status. The foundation’s mission is to levitate the future of the communities in which we live and work by supporting music, art, and outdoor related initiatives.  One-percent of each ticket sold will be contributed to the non-profit, which intends to begin its efforts in the upcoming year with more information to come.

In addition to the eclectic lineup that has come to be expected at Levitate Festival, all three days will feature local visual artists creating murals and live paintings, 100+ local craft and artisan vendors, and a variety of food trucks and cold drink options. The 2022 Levitate Music & Arts Festival is expected to be another page in the story of the growth of Levitate into one of the most loved and respected music and arts events in the region.

With a distinctive sound developed through tireless attention to musicality and artistry, Stick Figure has redefined American reggae music with his latest album, Wisdom, released today. As with his previous releases, Wisdom was written, produced and recorded by Scott Woodruff, a self-taught musician, at Stick Figure-owned Great Stone Studios in Oakland, CA, former home of Green Day. The album includes 14 full length tracks, including features from Slightly Stoopid, Barrington Levy, and Collie Buddz.

Wisdom is Stick Figure’s seventh album and follows the unprecedented success of 2019’s World on Fire, which peaked at number 34 on the Billboard Top 200, #6 overall Top albums, #1 Independent, and #1 Reggae album. World on Fire has sold over 300,000 copies including streaming equivalents, according to Nielsen soundscan data. Stick Figure’s catalog has now sold well over one million copies and been streamed over three billion times. On the live side, Stick Figure averaged over 4,200 tickets sold per show on an almost entirely sold out 2022 tour, according to Pollstar, and is slated to play major multi-genre festivals in 2023 after headlining the top reggae festivals in 2022.

These numbers would be impressive by any metric, yet Stick Figure has achieved this rarified air completely independently, with no label or outside producers. Throughout the credits of Wisdom, Woodruff and a small cadre of collaborators, namely childhood friend TJ O’Neill, prove that manufactured music does not have to exclusively dominate the charts. Streaming alongside today’s biggest pop stars, Stick Figure has transcended the genre while always embracing his love of reggae music. Much like other bands supported Stick Figure during his ascent, Woodruff works with up and coming artists to help foster a vibrancy that keeps the scene strong and growing faster than ever before, exposing it to new listeners with an authenticity that stays true to his roots, while pushing the boundaries of sound that people expect from the genre.

Wisdom is a journey and a search for what matters in life–a search for meaning, purpose, place and belonging. Wisdom is a code to live by where we can accept that it is ok to start over, to make mistakes, to love, and to feel pain. It is a reminder to focus on the little things that bring joy and know that all of it is a part of our individual story. It also shows us that we should have some fun doing it all! In signature Stick Figure style, Wisdom can bring peace and happiness in the dark moments as well as in the good times, and the benefits of the music can stay with the listener long after the record has stopped spinning.

An intuitive and accomplished producer, Woodruff crafts authentic artistry from the foundation of roots-dub reggae, featuring cavernous grooves, sparkling electronic orchestration, and thick rhythms. With a soundscape that is as much Kygo or Tame Impala as it is Bob Marley or Sublime, his music has evolved throughout time while staying true to his signature sound. Wisdom is undoubtedly Stick Figure’s best production to date, and the attention to detail throughout the album’s 14 tracks create a top-notch sonic experience that is tailor made for a beach party and also perfectly suited for a solitary hike through the woods. Inside the historic studio, Stick Figure band member Johnny Cosmic, an accomplished producer in his own right, teams up with Woodruff to mix each track. When completed, a brotherhood of hard-jamming musicians delivers this widescreen soundtrack in concert performances of consciousness-altering celebration.

The evolution of the artist most often portrayed as a one-man band has its genesis in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Well before achieving worldwide acclaim or embracing the demand to play live shows, Scott was an avid music fan who in high school traded bootleg CDs of his favorite artists' unreleased demos. It was then that he began recording a series of albums under the moniker of Stick Figure.

From his debut, The Sound of My Addiction, Scott’s handcrafted music connected with a community of avid listeners who discovered him exclusively by word of mouth and social media. Selling tens of thousands of copies of each of his self-produced releases allowed him to travel the world in pursuit of experience. Scott moved to San Diego, CA where his recording career continued to blossom. As recently as 2012, he was putting up his own posters for Burial Ground at the California Roots Festival. In 2019, Stick Figure was commanding center stage as the headliner for the massive event.   In 2022 Stick Figure is still embracing the DIY work ethic, while selling out amphitheaters and having his music played more than any other living reggae artist in the world.

Preceding Wisdom, Stick Figure released seven albums, all recorded solo, with Woodruff laying down the tracks one by one. The current live band line-up features Kevin Bong (KBong) on keyboards, Kevin Offitzer on drums, bassist Tommy Suliman, John Gray (Johnny Cosmic) on guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals, and Will Phillips on percussion, with Scott upfront on guitar and vocals. Bong, Offitzer and Suliman have been with the band for ten years and the camaraderie  on stage is infectious.

Stick Figure concerts are gatherings distinguished by audience sing-alongs, hard hitting bass, extended improvisational interludes, the mind-manifesting hues of a light show, and the much-anticipated entrance of the band’s canine mascot, a rescued Australian Shepherd named Cocoa The Tour Dog. Cocoa has her own 501(c)3 charity and is the only dog to ever receive a trophy for her role in selling out the world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in one day. The show becomes a family gathering that spans across age and demographic, all coming together for good vibes and music.

The release of Wisdom signifies a new era of accessibility for reggae music, without sacrificing authenticity. The genre can no longer be written off as a footnote when the total consumption rivals that of most other major genres. Woodruff’s imaginative and thoughtfully crafted creations have made reggae a way of life for people of all backgrounds, and with Stick Figure showing no signs of stopping anytime soon, the people are ready for more.
