Missouri-born, Los Angeles-bred storyteller, Little Lonely, Julie Cain, announced today that her eponymous folk-Americana full-length debut will be available on June 25, 2013 on CD and via digital download.  A record release show and tour dates will be announced shortly.Produced by multi-instrumentalist, Sean Hoffman (American Music Club, Loch&Key, Linda Perhacs) Little Lonely combines the plaintive wail of Maria McKee, Julee Cruise and Hope Sandoval with the soft hush of a loping steel string horizon, echo-drenched guitars and girl group swagger.  She describes her inspiration as "…a train ride time machine with brief encounters with Cole Porter, Peggy Lee, Kris Kristofferson, Patti Smith and Nick Cave.”  It’s a strange, surreal take on UFOs, the Foxy Lady Tavern, tweakers, zombies and mini-bars – and that’s just on the loping track “Buttonwillow”. Track listing:   01   Penny’s First Available   02   All Night   03   Carnival King    04   Top Stair   05   The First Time You Left Me   06   Jesus Is In My Swimming Pool   07   Joanna   08   Little Lonely’s Lament   09   Interstate Hum   10   Buttonwillow   11   Old US 40While this may be the debut from Little Lonely, it’s not this little sweetheart of the rodeo’s first foray into music.  Julie Cain began her musical career by playing the organ at a funeral home in a suburb of Kansas City.  Later, she explored country music through a persona in college known as Bitsy Lee.  At its essence, Bitsy Lee was performance art inspired by Cain’s ancestors who roamed the Midwest playing in honky-tonks. Performing as Bitsy Lee, Cain found a way to imagine her life as if she’d never made her move to California at age 18.  Importantly, she also caught the attention of producers, Hoffman, and, prior to that, Greg Eklund (Everclear, The Oohlas) and Geoff Walcha (Everclear, Ben Harper) who co-produced her EP (2005), Interstate Hum.  Described as "moody, subtle, intelligent and, just occasionally, a little bit Patsy Cline" by Americana UK, the project led to quite a few music placements in feature films Broken Hill, starring Timothy Hutton and Hurt, starring Melora WaltersPicture Show (2011), Cain’s self-produced demo with guest performances by Dead Kennedys’ East Bay Ray & Chuck Lindo (Actionslacks), yielded placement in the short film My Own Private Demon.Little Lonely features accomplished musicians from the world of Indie-Rock, Folk and Americana circles in Los Angeles. These include:  Darice Bailey (The Broken West, The Coals), Nic Chaffee (Eels, George Clinton), Greg Eklund  (Everclear, The Oohlas), Joey Galvan (Pete Anderson), Eric Heywood (The Pretenders, Son Volt), Baskerville Jones (The Rebirth), Robby Marshall (John Daversa Band), Heather McIntosh (Norah Jones, Gnarls Barkley), George Sluppick (The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Mofro).

Paris1919, a Minneapolis ensemble led by experimental Composer and Conductor Chris Strouth have released their second album Antarctica, which is out now via the UltraModern label.

Antarctica was produced in 2014 as an installation and performance at Minneapolis’s Public Functionary gallery (http://publicfunctionary.org/antarctica/) and performed inside of a giant plastic glacier alongside dancers and video projections, to create a completely immersive experience. The score features Electronics by Chris Strouth and a supergroup of Midwest avant-garde players. They including Michael Croswell (McKnight recipient, Ivey Award Winner, Metaphor) (Lap Steel), Randall Davidson (Garrison Keillor, Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Nike and renowned composer in his own right) (Cello), Tim Ritter (Shapeshifter, Astronaut Wife, Bella Koshka) (Bass), Mykl Westbrooks (Landing Gear, Zen Identity) (Electric Guitar) and Eric White (Conservatoire National Douta Seck).

“We have all felt that isolation, that moment of being in a place completely alone from the world, not necessarily in the physical sense, which is what the score for Antarctica embodies,” said Paris1919 Architect and Conductor Chris Strouth. “It’s that place where introspection can show just a little more than your ready for. This was my way of trying to blink into the void, and try and make some sense of it all. It’s an abstract, but it’s my thought that sometimes we need that abstract to get to the truth.”

Antarctica is an album about isolation as well as the perseverance and tenacity of 1000 years of Antarctica’s physical evolution as a metaphor about Strouth’s kidney transplant in 2009. He was the first person to get a transplant via social media and Antarctica represents his time post-transplant, after all the news stories, wondering if he was looking into the void of isolation, and the void staring back.

Paris1919 next performance in the Twin Cities will be May 5th,6th,& 7th with a new theatrical piece called Grief with actor Charles Hubbel, at the Tek Box (http://www.thecowlescenter.org/visitor-building-info/stages/jsb-tekbox), as part of the Right Here Showcase (http://righthereshowcase.weebly.com).

“Hole In The Ground” by Amon Tobin – video release

“Hole In The Ground” is part of a suite of tracks due for release by Amon Tobin later this year on Nomark Records. Each track will be accompanied by a short video film.

This could be Earth in the future, or in a prehistoric past. Or it could be the rocky dust of a planet in another universe, where multidimensional creatures tease their way across the sky, stirring up the dirt and rocks below them, searching for prey.

Spiky, glittering, ominous.

There will be a lot of music from Amon Tobin in 2023. This is the first taste.
