Six-piece Rhythm and Blues band The Dip releases a brand new single, "Doing The Thing," today. A hard-driving bass and guitar link with a powerful horn section to elevate guitarist/singer Tom Eddy's exclamation that "Your heart just ain't in it!" The track investigates relationships and the self through many different lenses and speaks to how frustration and incompatibility in a relationship can be unveiled over time.

Eddy explains: “Going through the motions is not the move! “Doing The Thing” is about making the call and not beating around the bush when a relationship is clearly not working out. It doesn’t feel good to be placated and strung along. Sometimes being direct is an act of kindness. We tried to embody that directness in the arrangement, no frills, no fuss, just lay it down and walk away.”

The Dip will release their lush forthcoming album, Love Direction, on July 12, 2024, via Dualtone Records. The album is a dynamic 11-song collection that showcases the band’s distinctive driving sound alongside moments of introspection and nuance laid bare.

The Dip is known for its poignant songwriting, detailed arrangements, and vintage sound. Featuring a three-piece horn section, the group’s music harkens back to earlier soul and funk influences while hinting at the jazz foundations that brought the band’s members together. Along with singer and guitarist Eddy, bassist Mark Hunter and drummer Jarred Katz are equally at home in a tight-pocketed groove as they are spacious free-improvisation. Trumpet player Brennan Carter and saxophonists Evan Smith and Levi Gillis serve as the band’s melodic counterpoint, playing off Eddy’s vocals to create a distinct sonic character that has drawn in millions of listeners to date. Love Direction is the follow-up to 2022’s Sticking With It, which landed at #1 on the Billboard Current R&B Albums Chart. The Dip has over 200m career streams and has appeared at festivals such as Bourbon and Beyond, High Water, Bonnaroo, and more.

Athens, GA indie rock band Futurebirds announce the release of their new album, Easy Company, on August 9, 2024 via Dualtone Music Group, a MNRK Company.  To give listeners a taste of the album, the band drops the Easy Company EP today, a 3-song teaser with a song from each of the band’s distinct frontmen. The tracks “Colorados,” “Bloom,” and “Up and Out,” are available on all digital service providers now.

Listen to the EP and pre-order Easy Company here

Featuring four sharply-written songs apiece from each of the frontmen, singer/ songwriters Daniel Womack, Thomas Johnson, and Carter King, Easy Company feels like a celebration of the tight-knit bonds that have held Futurebirds aloft since 2008.  Easy Company was recorded with producer Brad Cook in the border town of Tornillo, TX, and features Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield, who trades verses with King on the album's title track, and Drive-By Truckers co-founder Patterson Hood, who delivers a spoken-word monologue during "Soft Drugs." A brass section even makes a brief appearance. The result is a bold blend of old and new, delivered by a band of brothers who've never sounded so invigorated.

Thomas Johnson remarks: “‘Up and Out’ is about breaking out of the cycle of feeling sorry for myself, and how clearing out the past is an essential part of that.  Forgive, forget, up, and out. For the video, I put on my favorite faux-fur coat (on loan from my lady) and took the boys down to the dock, one of my favorite pastimes. This video was a blast for us to film, between the chaos on the dock scenes and the merry-go-round madness, this felt like a video I would have filmed with my friends in the '90s, and I love that.”

In addition to the three frontmen, Futurebirds also consists of band members Brannen Miles, Kiffy Myers, Spencer Thomas, and Tom Myers. By blending captivating songs with a progressive mix of rock & roll, electrified folk, and cosmic American roots music, Futurebirds have built an audience that's as wide as the band's own sound.  Rolling Stone described Futurebirds as “the most captivating rock act touring today,” while The New Yorker called the band “…masters of reverb-steeped country rock infused with Southern Charm.”
