Grateful Dead lyricist, and co-founder of the EFF, John Perry Barlow, has had a tumultuous year and a half spent in "medical incarceration," living with extreme pain and limited mobility since April, 2015. Tragically, healthy savings and robust insurance is no match for the cost of extended convalescence.

On Wednesday, December 14, tune into nugs.tv and help make difference. Watch The Songs of John Perry Barlow webcast, live from Brooklyn Bowl, featuring Jackie Greene, Eric Krasno, Ross James, Grahame Lesh, Rob Barraco, Amy Helm, Leslie Mendelson, Karina Rykman and more. See this cast of stellar musicians and friends converge at Brooklyn Bowl to pay tribute to the legendary songwriting partner and best friend of Bob Weir, the original cowboy, John Perry Barlow.

John Perry Barlow is responsible for providing the lyrics to numerous Grateful Dead classics, including "Cassidy," "Estimated Prophet," "Hell In A Bucket," "Throwing Stones," "Feel Like A Stranger," "Music Never Stopped," "Looks Like Rain," and many others.

As co-founder of EFF, JP Barlow also penned the Declaration of Cyberspace Independence. We at nugs.net are especially Grateful to JP Barlow for his dedication to fighting for our freedoms on the internet. We hope you'll join us in giving back to the man who has provided so much to this world.

Some things are built to last. During the course of its two decades of making records, O.A.R. — lead singer and primary songwriter Marc Roberge, drummer Chris Culos, guitarist Richard On, bassist Benj Gershman and saxophonist/guitarist Jerry DePizzo—has created and maintained a sort of a parallel universe. In effect hiding in plain sight from the world outside, the band fills arenas and amphitheaters as it crafts and releases relatable songs with big pop hooks, all of this activity going down completely apart from the mainstream. Within this universe, these songs are bona fide hits, and the band members are superstars.

Now, 20 years, endless shows and 13 albums later, O.A.R. (an acronym for the band’s full name: .…of a revolution) has assembled a comprehensive career overview: XX ; a 24-track, half-studio and half-live collection, shines a light on key moments from this vital, prolific band’s recording career. As a bonus to O.A.R.’s ecstatically devoted fans, the set opens with a pair of inspired, newly written songs: “Follow Me, Follow You” and “I Go Through,” which were written and recorded as the cameras rolled during Qello Concerts’ captivating six-part docu-series Evolution of a Song.

“People like being part of what we are doing, because we exist and we succeed within our own community,” Roberge points out. “We have no desire to exist or succeed by someone else’s standards. We just want to provide for our families and give them every opportunity, and do that by playing shows and making music.”

For more than two decades, Lettuce have brought a new vitality to classic funk, matching their smooth and soulful grooves with a hip-hop-inspired urgency and mastery of beat. Now, on their fourth studio album Crush, drummer Adam Deitch, guitarists Adam Smirnoff and Eric Krasno, bassist Erick "Jesus" Coomes, keyboardist Neal Evans, saxophonist Ryan Zoidis, and trumpet player Eric Bloom deepen that sound by channeling the sonic freedom and infectious energy of their incendiary live show.

According to Lettuce, that sense of unity and togetherness has much to do with a camaraderie that's only intensified over the lifespan of the band. Formed in 1992, when several band members attended a summer program at Boston's Berklee College of Music as teenagers, Lettuce was founded on a shared love of legendary funk artists like Earth, Wind & Fire and Tower of Power. After returning to Berklee as undergrads in 1994, Lettuce started playing in local clubs and steadily built up a following that soon extended to cities across the country and then throughout the world. Releasing their studio debut Outta Here in 2002 and its follow-up album Rage! in 2009, the band dedicated the coming years to balancing their frequent touring with involvement in a host of other musical endeavors (including Evans and Krasno's role as founding members of acclaimed soul/jazz trio Soulive).

In recent years, Lettuce have watched their fanbase expand as they've hit bigger and bigger stages and earned their name as a can't-miss festival act. And in making Crush, the band had no trouble harnessing the spirit of their explosive live show. "Some of these shows we've played over the past couple years have been so amazing, it's like you go home a different person," says Coomes. "I'm sure remembering those moments in our minds and our hearts helped bring out something special when we were recording these new songs."

For more than a decade pianist Marco Benevento has been amassing an extensive resume of composition and collaboration. His albums set forth a vision that connects the dots between MGMT and Tortoise on one side, Brian Eno and Brad Mehldau on the other. In the live setting, his performances reverberate with pulsating dance rock energy, which has led to numerous high profile appearances, ranging from Carnegie Hall to Celebrate Brooklyn, Newport Jazz to Bonnaroo. Benevento has been invited to open for The Books, Ben Folds and Rubblebucket, while headlining shows from coast to coast.

As anybody who's seen Marco Benevento perform can attest, with eyes closed, smile wide across his face and fingers free-flowing across the keys, the pianist is a satellite to the muse. With a devout and growing fan-base, Benevento is an artist whose story is only beginning to unfold.

WOLF!

You're at a nightclub one night a few years ago-the Lovin' Cup in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood, to be exact. Your favorite local singer is on the bill, so you got there early and grabbed the best table. You wait for the gig to start...You wait a little longer... The singer's backup band-guitarist Scott Metzger, bassist Jon Shaw and drummer Taylor Floreth-file onto the stage. Then comes the announcement: The singer never showed up, so tonight it's going to be instrumental music only. Oh, and all of it's going to be made up on the spot, since none of these guys thought they'd be performing on their own. In fact, they never even thought of themselves as a band at all.

This trio is known now as WOLF! In some ways, they're still doing what they did that night at the Lovin' Cup-creating music on the spot, though now in front of audiences that stay put because they know they're in for a few hours of daring, evocative and unpredictable performance. And, yes, they're still working without singers.

Branded with the name WOLF!, they evolved into a unique musical entity - and then kept evolving. "Our early stuff was kind of contained," Metzger says. "As the years have gone by, we've learned to represent more influences. We can introduce a noise aspect or free jazz elements. We've become a lot less about guitar solos. In the beginning, we saw the guitar as the voice that was leading us. Now we're more about creating arrangements on the spot as opposed to melody/solo/melody. I'm not thinking, 'OK, I'm gonna solo now.' It's more like, 'Let me compose a cool part for where a solo would traditionally go.'" "It takes a lot of guts to get up each night and not know what's going to happen," Metzger concludes. "Each night we play is completely different from every other night. I think it comes down to musical confidence and trust. The fact is, we can do whatever we want with this thing. And we're just getting started."

A marathon musical journey featuring a full rendition of the Talking Heads opus “Stop Making Sense” with Pink Floyd & Phish songs intertwined throughout the piece.

While on tour with various projects over the past few years, bassist extraordinaire Reed Mathis spent his spare time rearranging Beethoven (Symphonies 3 and 6), recording each newly reimagined movement with a long and impressive "who's-who" list of his musical brethren, including Phish's Page McConnell and Mike Gordon, Marco Benevento, Joe Russo, the Barr Brothers, Robert Walter and Galactic's Stanton Moore.

When imagining what it would be like to tour these Beethoven masterpieces, Mathis rearranged his rearrangements a second time, this time welding Beethoven's motifs and melodies to modern-era dance beats, with plenty of waypoints for the musicians to jump off into heavy, full-band improvisations. It's jamtronica with Beethoven — hence, the world's first CDM ("classical dance music") band.

The members of Railroad Earth aren’t losing sleep about what “kind” of music they play – they just play it. When they started out in 2001, they were a bunch of guys interested in playing acoustic instruments together. As Railroad Earth violin/vocalist Tim Carbone recalls, “All of us had been playing in various projects for years, and many of us had played together in different projects. But this time, we found ourselves all available at the same time.”

Songwriter/lead vocalist Todd Sheaffer continues, “When we started, we only loosely had the idea of getting together and playing some music. It started that informally; just getting together and doing some picking and playing. Over a couple of month period, we started working on some original songs, as well as playing some covers that we thought would be fun to play.” Shortly thereafter, they took five songs from their budding repertoire into a studio and knocked out a demo in just two days. Their soon-to-be manager sent that demo to a few festivals, and – to the band’s surprise – they were booked at the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Festival before they’d even played their first gig. This prompted them to quickly go in and record five more songs; the ten combined tracks of which made up their debut album, “The Black Bear Sessions.”

That was the beginning of Railroad Earth’s journey: since those early days, they’ve gone on to release five more critically acclaimed studio albums and one hugely popular live one called, “Elko.” They’ve also amassed a huge and loyal fanbase who turn up to support them in every corner of the country, and often take advantage of the band’s liberal taping and photo policy. But Railroad Earth bristle at the notion of being lumped into any one “scene.” Not out of animosity for any other artists: it’s just that they don’t find the labels very useful. As Carbone points out, “We use unique acoustic instrumentation, but we’re definitely not a bluegrass or country band, which sometimes leaves music writers confused as to how to categorize us. We’re essentially playing rock on acoustic instruments.”

TAUK

On their third studio album Sir Nebula, TAUK tap into their singular chemistry to elevate and expand their all-instrumental blend of funk, hip-hop, progressive rock, and jazz. Revealing both their refined musicality and unbridled creativity, the Oyster Bay, New York-bred rock-fusion four-piece (guitarist Matt Jalbert, bassist Charlie Dolan, keyboardist/organist Alric “A.C.” Carter, and drummer Isaac Teel) push into new sonic terrain and build entire worlds within each richly textured soundscape.

As with their past four releases, TAUK created Sir Nebula in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning producer/mixer/engineer Robert Carranza (The Mars Volta, Ozomatli, Jack Johnson, Taj Mahal). But in a departure from their previous work, the band made the album in one concentrated period rather than spacing the recording sessions out in between tours. Holing up at the Solar Powered Plastic Plant in Los Angeles, often pulling 12-hour workdays, TAUK ultimately found the revamped recording process hugely beneficial. “Everything just happened so naturally this time around,” says Jalbert. “I can’t think of one moment where it felt like anything was forced. We were all just completely focused and in the same mindset, which made it this incredibly fun and smooth experience.”

Anders Osborne's music is redolent of the blues bathed in West Coast sunshine and brotherly compassion, a torchbearer for rock ‘n’ roll with blood in it’s veins and a heart in it’s hands. His long awaited new full length, Spacedust & Ocean Views, offers up graceful songwriting and signature guitar work on one of the strongest releases in his storied career. A strong sense of place runs through the album. From an evocation of geography to a questioning of one’s place in the universe, big ideas are condensed in thoughtful, smoothly swinging ways. It’s the album his fans have been waiting for- one that only he can deliver.

“These twelve songs speak about places dear to me, places I feel something profound about, but there’s also the presence of the universe,” explains Osborne. “I think one of the main struggles we all face is the separation from unity. I want to understand how I can feel unified with the world and others, with the universe writ large. I can arrange the ideas intellectually but the feeling of longing remains. The whole thing is a mystery, sometimes a sad, baffling mystery and sometimes very enchanting, but overall I just don’t understand and want to desperately. That’s what this music is, an attempt to understand it all.”

This special collection of compositions is the culmination of years of writing and touring. “This is the last chapter before something new emerges. I’m wrapping some stuff up and figuring some fresh stuff out,” says Osborne, who’s been moving beyond his complicated past for close to a decade. “Now my life is about a human experience in a larger sense. Now, I feel I’m standing on my own two feet, trying to be a grown man doing the right thing.” In an ever changing musical landscape, Spacedust & Ocean Views firmly plants Anders Osborne as one of American music’s elite guitarists and songwriters.

Jackie Greene

In 2013, Greene joined the reunited Black Crowes as lead guitarist on their worldwide tour, and the following year released the self-titled debut album of supergroup Trigger Hippy, which Greene is a member of along with Joan Osborne and Crowes drummer Steve Gorman. Greene continues to be a frequent member of Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh's touring ensemble Phil Lesh & Friends, for which he has contributed lead guitar and vocals since 2007. Greene also toured as part of WRG, an acoustic trio with the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir and Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, and he performed with Levon Helm as part of Helm's fabled Midnight Ramble shows.

Assembly of Dust

AOD's 2011 release Found Sound represents a "behind the curtain" look at a band that has garnered critical acclaim both for their studio albums and live performances. AOD's crew secretly recorded the band 2007 New Years Eve performance in order to capture totally inspired, unfiltered versions of their best material. While the album maintains the high standard of song craft and lyrical depth that Genauer and Co. are known for, it separates itself from past efforts with an energetic delivery that showcases improvisational musicianship; music's best kept secret may have just been found. Reid Genauer explains "Our front-of-house engineer, Jack Trifiro, recorded one of our shows without us knowing, he managed to sneak a full, multi-tracked recording session past us without us knowing. " The group may have stumbled onto something unique in the music world – a defining moment that the band didn't even know it recorded.

Melvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-established reputation as a performer, recording artist and producer. Melvin is most revered for his powerful, high-spirited, Hammond B-3 organ, and keyboards in the Jerry Garcia Band. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become "Jam Band Music". From blues to funk to rock to jazz, Melvin Seals serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up.

The John Kadlecik Band is Joe Gallant (Illuminati) on bass, Jay Lane (Furthur, Ratdog, Primus) on drums, and Benjie Porecki (Keller's Grateful Gospel) on keys.

John Kadlecik is a singer, songwriter, and musician based in the DC-area who can play most string instruments, but is primarily known for being a guitar-slinging sideman to Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir in the band Furthur. An original co-founder of the group Dark Star Orchestra, John has been performing improvisationally-oriented shows regularly since the late 1980's and touring nationally for the last 20 years. Over the past decade, The String Cheese Incident has emerged as one of America's most significant independent bands. Born in 1993 in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, SCI has since released 10 albums, 6 DVDs and countless live recordings from their relentless tour schedule. Their 24 year history is packed full of surreal experiences, epic moments, groundbreaking involvement and huge accomplishments. They have been recognized for their commitment to musical creativity and integrity, for their community spirit, philanthropic endeavors, and for their innovative approach to the business of music.

When The String Cheese Incident's growth first started gaining momentum over a decade ago, when the internet was just beginning to take hold and the major-label business model was failing, the band decided to make music on their own terms. Since then, they have gone on to carve out a completely different approach to the business of music; they are truly pioneers of a new way of "making a band." With the World Wide Web as their tool, SCI was among the first artists to disseminate information via the internet, such as tour dates, release information, and other news, to their growing fan base. Rather than doing business on such terms as "the bottom line," The String Cheese Incident put their music and their fans first, opening companies of their own, including a ticketing company, a merchandise company and a fan travel agency, to best serve their community. The band's record label, SCI Fidelity Records, has always operated under the same ideals. Even early on, SCI Fidelity embraced downloadable music and file sharing, delivering SCI's "On the Road" series and LiveCheese.com, where every show the band plays is made available for download on the internet. Whether they realized it at the time or not, The String Cheese Incident was inventing grassroots band development. Today, literally hundreds of bands are using some version of this same approach to building a band.

For the past quarter-century, Colorado's Leftover Salmon has established itself as one of the great purveyors of Americana music, digging deep into the well that supplies its influences; rock 'n' roll, folk, bluegrass, Cajun, soul, zydeco, jazz and blues. They are firmly settled in the long lineage of bands that defy simple categorization, instead setting their own musical agenda. They are the direct descendants of bands like Little Feat, New Grass Revival, Grateful Dead and The Band, born of the heart and soul of America itself, playing music that reflects the sounds emanating from the Appalachian hills, the streets of New Orleans, the clubs of Chicago, the plains of Texas, and the mountains of Colorado.

During Leftover Salmon's twenty-five plus years as a band they have headlined shows and festivals from coast to coast, released nine albums, and maintained a vibrant, relevant and influential voice in the music world. Over that time, Leftover Salmon's sound has grown and evolved while staying true to the roots and guiding spirit of the band's founding members - mandolinist/singer Drew Emmitt and guitarist/singer Vince Herman.

But, don't be quick to think that the no holds barred openness to experimenting is unguided. While the brush in their hand uses every color, it's the stroke on the canvas that gives Dopapod a distinct voice in the way of crafty songwriting.

Carrying the torch of the great funk bands such as Tower of Power, Sly and the Family Stone, and James Brown into the 21st century, comes Deep Banana Blackout. With full horn section, and soulful groove imbedded in the roots of funk, Deep Banana is the leader of today's emerging funk rock scene. The band's sound captures commercial accessibility augmented with tight musical arrangements and limited improvisation. But make no mistake- THIS BAND ROCKS! Their incessant touring and high-energy performances demonstrate the deep love, respect, and enthusiasm the members have for what they do.

Percy Hill went from New England's best kept secret to legendary Jamband following the recording of their 1999 album Color in Bloom. The critically acclaimed release won a Jammy award for best studio album and earned the band high praise from publications like the Village Voice and Entertainment Weekly. Now, a little more than 10 years after Percy Hill's last live performance, the band comprised of Joe Farrell, Aaron Katz, John Leccese and Nate Wilson will reunite to celebrate the 17th anniversary of their critically acclaimed album.

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong brings end-of-the-world enthusiasm to their high-energy psychedelic funk. Their infectious electro-funk grooves, undeniable live energy and contagious smiles have their rabid fanbase "the Flock" growing exponentially. Based out of Baltimore, MD, this animated quartet has been scorching up the country with their explosive performances and danceable peaks... and they're loving every minute of it.

Hayley Jane and the Primates deliver a genre-bending sound that is hard to define and a live performance that has started to create a serious buzz in the Northeast. The Primates' music draws inspiration from a variety of styles, including 60s/70s rock and pop, old musical theater, folk, blues, soul, reggae, psychedelic, funk, bluegrass, and country. Their catchy songs have been praised by a wide range of music lovers for successfully combining a diverse sound with clever, over-the-top lyrics and Vaudevillian style storytelling. However you decide to categorize the Primates musically, their on-stage energy, skilled musicianship, theatrics, and group improvisation take you over a landscape of emotion that will leave you wanting more.

Like many bands comprised of tight-laced musicianship, Organ Freeman emerged from the Hollywood music scene wasting no time. Steer explains that the group "initially formed the group as more of an opportunity to experiment than a serious project while we were all students, and continued on as a creative outlet while we all played out as freelance musicians. It wasn't until years later when we were presented with the chance to do a record that the band sort of morphed into what it is today."

Hooteroll? + Plus! Featuring: Stuart Bogie (Reeds) Erik Deutsch (Keyboards) Jonathan Goldberger (Guitar) Dave Harrington (Bass) Kevin Kendrick (Vibraphone & Percussion) Jordan McClean (Trumpet) Joe Russo (Drums)

"A great rehearsal yesterday for Joe Russo Presents Hooteroll? + Plus! So excited to play this material with these unreal talents! This is going to be an amazing night. More to come soon!" JR

"Hooteroll is a GREAT but largely unknown instrumental album. Garcia and Wales did one brief tour for the LP back in the 70's.  Howard Wales loved playing with Jerry and had a jazz background (organist Larry Young was an inspiration to him.) Jerry was always hungry to play and could get along with any style of music. This should be a very interesting, experimental night!"

The first ever OTR LiveCheese releases were from Austin 2002, order all 3 now as a special 3 show MP3 package for $15 to celebrate the 15th anniversary.

You think you know the Spin Doctors. Think again. When the legendary New York quartet released If The River Was Whiskey in 2013 through Ruf Records, casual fans discovered the secret past the hardcore have never forgotten. To the wider world, the Doctors might be the multi-million-selling icons behind hits like Two Princes and Little Miss Can't Be Wrong, not to mention the classic Pocket Full Of Kryptonite. But in 2013, Chris Barron (vocals), Aaron Comess (drums), Eric Schenkman (guitar) and Mark White (bass) reconnected with the flat-broke twenty-somethings who scraped for dollars at the sharp end of the Big Apple blues circuit. The Spin Doctors came full-circle.

The concept to revisit these songs struck as the Spin Doctors toured Europe to toast the 20th anniversary of Pocket Full Of Kryptonite, and polled über-fans David Landsburger and Daniel Heinze on what they'd like to hear as the encore that night. Their answer - So Bad - was a song so old that Chris had almost forgotten the verses, but when the venue exploded, a lightbulb lit over the band's heads. "We had such a good time playing these tunes," the singer explains, "that we thought, 'We should go make a record of this stuff'. It's really brought us back as a band, musically and interpersonally."

The songs on If The River Was Whiskey are different vintages. "Some Other Man Instead and the title track, I wrote those lyrics in the last year or two," explains Chris. "But Sweetest Portion, I wrote that song when I was 19. I'd run away from home, and when I got back, my friends were really upset and there was a rumour going around that I had died. So I wrote that song - and I'm not sure if I've ever written a better one since."

"We play about four or five tunes a night from this new album and they all work," says Eric. "It just feels seamless, like any of the new tunes can sit with any one of the Kryptonite songs. And the band is just playing amazing now. It's a pleasure to play with people that you've been playing with so long... and everybody's still breathing!"

"I don't care about album sales, man," states Chris, honestly. "I just want to keep making a living playing music. We get up onstage and we turn it on, and sing and play our hearts out. And that's all I've ever wanted to do: just make real music, give people something from my heart."

Uniting elements of electronic dance music with more traditional forms of American rock, the Disco Biscuits have long established themselves as one of the most exciting - and influential - touring bands in the country. In the late 90s, the band pioneered a unique style of music, often referred to as "trance-fusion," that distinguished them from their peers, while heavily influencing an entire generation of younger "livetronica" acts.

The Disco Biscuits' live show has developed from a regional nightclub attraction to a full on American experience. As Brownstein explains, "There's this deep, fun-loving community built around the band that's a decade old and which extends throughout the entire country. When we go anywhere, there's something else going on that's not just about the band and the music, but it's a part of a greater experience."

Standard rock concerts have become formulaic showcases where bands support their latest album by performing new songs amidst a selection of greatest hits. The Disco Biscuits, on the other hand, use their shows to create an entirely new album every night, in front of a live audience. Gutwillig equates it to watching a painter craft an image from scratch, using just a palette and a muse. "It's unlike buying the art, where it's already painted," he says. "It's watching the paint getting thrown on the canvas in a frenzy. And we're doing it with dance beats and we're doing it with grooves and we're trying to make it as exciting as possible. It's almost like getting cars into a field with cameras and just shooting a high-speed chase right there on the spot. What we're trying to do, for the observer, is to make the most awesome, exciting, high-speed chase that they could possibly watch. And we're trying to do it in a way that makes everyone feel like they went there, they lived it, and they felt it deep inside. That's our goal."

The New Mastersounds formed in Leeds UK in 1999 and cut their teeth as the resident live band at a hip dance club, playing every Friday and Saturday night for nearly two years.

A rough 8-track recording of an early rehearsal got into the hands of some London DJs, and was released soon after on two limited-edition 7" singles. Invitations to play club gigs in London soon followed, and before long the band had established a reputation around UK and Europe as forerunners of the deep funk revival scene. Fast-forward to 2004: having experimented with various line-ups and recorded 2 albums, the original 4-piece band was invited to Chicago to open for the Greyboy All Stars at the House of Blues. This gig kicked off a prolific live career in USA which continues to the present day, backed up by more studio records, live albums, a remix album and 2 compilations. Their quirky, catchy instrumental ditties have been used on TV and film soundtracks, and the band is the subject of an award-winning feature-length documentary: "Coals to Newcastle: The New Mastersounds - from Leeds to New Orleans".

Performing to critical acclaim worldwide for nearly 15 years and over 2000 shows, Dark Star Orchestra continues the Grateful Dead concert experience. Their shows are built off the Dead's extensive catalog and the talent of these 7 fine musicians. On any given night the band will perform a show based on a set list from the Grateful Dead's 30 years of extensive touring or use their catalog to program a unique set list for the show. This allows fans both young and old to share in the experience. By recreating set lists from the past, and by developing their own sets of Dead songs, Dark Star Orchestra offers a continually evolving artistic outlet within this musical canon. Honoring both the band and the fans, Dark Star Orchestra's members seek out the unique style and sound of each era while simultaneously offering their own informed improvisations.

"For us it's a chance to recreate some of the magic that was created for us over the years," rhythm guitarist and vocalist Rob Eaton explains. "We offer a sort of a historical perspective at what it might have been like to go to a show in 1985, 1978 or whenever. Even for Deadheads who can say they've been to a hundred shows in the 90s, we offer something they never got to see live."

[Br]eaking [Bi]scuits brings together Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee, aka Break Science with two members of the Disco Biscuits - bassist Marc Brownstein and keyboardist Aron Magner.

In October of 2016, Brooklyn Comes Alive brought together dozens of artists to play in never-before-formed supergroups for one night only in NYC. It was there that one of the most talked-about collaborations was born: [Br]eaking [Bi]scuits with Break Science's Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee and The Disco Biscuits' Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner. The debut performance was easily one of the most talked about musical experiences that came out of the day, ultimately inspiring the artists to come back together for a slew of dates this spring.

Says Brownstein of the project, "Playing with Adam and Borahm is a dream come true. These are two of the best musicians in the entire live and electronic music scene, and they have pushed the envelope to evolve the way people perceive what is possible to accomplish musically."

Adds Deitch, "Marc and Aron went from playing the Wetlands in the 90s, to curating one of the biggest and coolest festivals in the world, Camp Bisco! They have always had one foot in the electronic sound, and one foot in the jam!"

Merging together the worlds of electronic, hip-hop, psychedelic grooves and heavy jams, [Br]eaking [Bi]scuits is certainly not to be missed!

For millions of passionate Grateful Dead fans, there is only one "Wolf": Jerry Garcia's beloved guitar. Customized by luthier Doug Irwin, Wolf was delivered to Jerry and first appeared in a 1973 New York City performance the Grateful Dead gave for the Hells Angels. Over the following two decades, Wolf became almost as well known as the performer himself as it appeared in countless concerts and on treasured recordings throughout Jerry's fabled career.

Years after the musician's passing, Wolf returned to Doug and was sold in a 2002 Guernsey's auction conducted at NYC's electric Studio 54, where it fetched close to $1 million, more than doubling the existing world record. Now, Wolf's buyer, wishing to support the important efforts of the Southern Poverty Law Center and its continuing fight against racism and hate groups, has returned Wolf to Guernsey's for an unprecedented one lot auction of this most treasured guitar. The proceeds of the winning high bid on this extraordinary instrument will go to SPLC. This Guernsey's event, additionally supported by the Relix Group, will be held on May 31st, live at the fabulous Brooklyn Bowl in New York City. Absentee bidders will also be accommodated.

From San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom to NYC's Palladium to Egypt's Great Pyramids, Jerry and Wolf travelled, appearing in front of massive, passionate audiences. It is no wonder that the devoted Deadhead who purchased the Wolf in 2002 has said, "I've been a fan of The Dead since I was a kid, and playing this iconic guitar over the past 15 years has been a privilege. But the time is right for Wolf to do some good. My wife and I have long supported the efforts of the Southern Poverty Law Center, and if ever we needed the SPLC, we sure do need them now."

Rarely, if ever, has there been an item as memorable and noteworthy as the Wolf being sold in support of such a worthy cause. Guernsey's is thrilled that the return of Wolf will go a long way to combat racism and injustice across the country.

Brooklyn Bowl is proud to present on May 31st a spectacular Guernsey's auction event, where celebrated musicians will have a chance to play Wolf one last time before it finds a new owner. Those interested in bidding on Wolf, or attending the auction and preview events should visit www.guernseys.com or contact the auction house in New York at 212-794-2280.

Internationally acclaimed Mexican acoustic rock guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela are back on the road again in 2015, bringing their unique instrumental blend of metal, jazz and world music to audiences all over the US. Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero have been playing together for more than fifteen years. First as young thrash metal fans in their native Mexico City, then as innocents abroad and street musicians in Dublin, Ireland at the turn of the millennium, and finally as the globe-straddling, film-scoring, record-breaking artists they are today. Known for exhilarating live shows, Rodrigo y Gabriela have won the hearts of music lovers from the haciendas of Cuba to the Hollywood Bowl and festival fields of Europe, as they continue to weave their unique six-string magic. The extraordinary interplay between Sanchez's fiery lead lines and Quintero's phenomenal rhythmic battery is truly universal. The duo has reloaded their arsenal following the April 2014 worldwide release of "9 Dead Alive", their first studio album in five years. The new songs are intimate, the playing intuitive, and the results are spectacular, bursting with melodic energy and rhythmic invention. Recorded at their Pacific Coast hideaway in late summer, the album captures the warmth and spontaneity of two great musicians riffing and jamming together, perfectly distilled into 9 new songs teeming with desire, elegance and gusto. With career sales in excess of 1.5 million albums, blockbuster movie scores, and sold out tours worldwide, Rodrigo y Gabriela have certainly made their mark. Their appeal is boundless, their scope limitless, and the music timeless; clearly, we have only begun to see what this duo is capable of.

Proud to be firmly installed in the new-funk movement, KUNG FU is quickly popularizing their unique sonic contribution, blurring the line between intense electro-fusion, and blistering dance arrangements. Making fusion music "cool" again, the band draws on influences such as early Headhunters and Weather Report, and merges those ideas with a contemporary EDM informed sensibility. Imagine 70's funk-fusion meets a modern dance party!

Although the ensemble cast enjoys a seasoned pedigree that reads like a late-night summer festival all-star jam, this fledgling "nu-sion" project is growing a unique and rabid following by commanding audiences at theaters, clubs, and major national festivals since 2012.

The powerhouse quintet's live show has been described by critics and fans alike as "lethal funk", "explosive", "jaw dropping", and "musically mesmerizing". For the uninitiated, the experience is typically shocking yet the focus is simple: just sit back and enjoy the ride!

http://soulive.comSoulive has never made any bones about what they do best; it's right there in their name. Since forming in 1999, the trio of guitarist Eric Krasno, drummer Alan Evans and keyboardist Neal Evans has carried the torch for the soul-jazz organ trio-that venerable, funky institution pioneered by the likes of Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack McDuff and Groove Holmes in the late '60s. Rest assured, when the Evans brothers first brought Kraz by their Woodstock studio, there was plenty of old vinyl spread out on the floor.

In their 16 years together, Soulive has followed the muse in the direction of hip-hop, R&B, blues and rock, collaborating with the likes of Chaka Khan, Dave Matthews, Talib Kweli, John Scofield, Derek Trucks, Maceo Parker, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Randolph, Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett, Fred Wesley, The Roots, Ivan Neville and so many others, even going so far as to record a full album of covers by The Beatles (Rubber Soulive). But, no matter how they push the limits of the organ trio, they always come back to their bread and butter: blistering solos and grooves that don't quit.

Formed from weekly shows at Phil Lesh's Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, CA, the Terrapin Family Band featuring Ross James, Grahame Lesh, Jason Crosby and Alex Koford, has become the venue's official house band. Terrapin Crossroads' constant free bar shows, often featuring bandleader Phil, have created an opportunity for the young musicians of Terrapin Crossroads to perform together and with a diverse cast of visiting musicians. Through playing in this setting, and with ongoing mentoring from Phil, the Terrapin Family Band has grown into a richly nuanced and fun band, weaving the classics with obscure covers and fresh original music to create a unique musical tapestry.

The Chris Robinson Brotherhood are on the road in 2017 supporting their fourth studio album, Anyway You Love, We Know How You Feel, and its follow up companion EP, If You Lived Here, You Would Be Home By Now. Gathering in northern California on the side of a mountain overlooking the foggy Pacific Ocean to capture what would become their latest studio offerings, the band channeled the natural majesty of their surroundings into the recordings. Having spent the prior two years touring relentlessly, the CRB were road-tested and in peak form to capture their kinetic chemistry and immersive sound.

We are very excited to be live-streaming Warren Haynes' Christmas Jam! If you were unable to get tickets you can still support Christmas Jam by ordering a live SD or HD webcast and watching the show from the comfort of your home.

Curated and presented by Grammy Award-winning vocalist-songwriter and revered guitarist Warren Haynes, the Christmas Jam is a one-of-a-kind music marathon. Since its inception 27 years ago, the concert has provided an opportunity for the performing artists, audience and the local community to give back during the holiday season. Over the past 17 years, Haynes – an Asheville native – has worked closely with the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. The Jam has raised more than $2 million for Habitat and helped 36 families in need of decent, affordable housing. Because proceeds also go toward purchasing and developing land, donations were also put toward Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity's Hudson Hills subdivision, which is the location of the 2014 and 2015 Christmas Jam houses.  Recently completed, it is now home to 25 families. It was named in honor of Warren and his wife Stefani’s son, Hudson.

In Case You Missed It: Released on Friday and streaming for the first time, GarciaLive Volume 19 showcases Jerry's return to the stage with JGB following a second major health crisis. His reemergence here on Halloween three months later, slimmed down and in great spirits, was a real sight for sore eyes for the 17,000 in attendance at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. The setlist for the evening suggests the significance wasn’t lost on Garcia. Though hardly an uncommon opener, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” hints at Garcia’s gratitude for the outpouring of affection he received; while a poignant take on “The Maker” spins a tale of a “body bent and broken.” Thankfully this evening has more to it than just sentimentality – there are some exceptionally fine performances here too including a second set that’s among the decade’s best.
