In dreams the lake whispered, in waking the lake called out psychically - but then also on the phone. Desert Daze is returning to Lake Perris, CA for a weekend of concerts from November 12 - 14, 2021. Headlining this year’s event is The War on Drugs performing their only 2021 show, Kamasi Washington, Toro y Moi and Japanese Breakfast.

We are thrilled to be able to return to our home of the last few years. Like you, the lake knows where we belong. In order to provide a safer experience, this year’s event will be scaled down to keep us together in spirit while socially distanced. We are proud to present to you a weekend of camping and intimate outdoor performances.

As the sun winds down each day, the sonic reverberations will start and the grounds will be illuminated by an array of video artists and art installations. The three day lineup will also feature music from Devendra Banhart, Andy Shauf, Tim Heidecker & Weyes Blood, Crumb, Yves Tumor, Ty Segall, The Black Angels, DIIV, Kikagaku Moyo, The Budos Band, Moon Duo, Sudan Archives, Deap Vally, La Luz, Sasami, Crack Cloud, SPELLLING, Pachyman, JJUUJUU and Geese, with stage projections from Mad Alchemy.

Desert Daze is produced by Moon Block and Knitting Factory Entertainment (KFE). “It’s been a long year+ away from the Desert Daze community and we are really excited about seeing the people that make this event so special, and seeing this beautiful, multi-faceted lineup at the lake,” notes Desert Daze & Moon Block founder, curator and JJUUJJUU frontman Phil Pirrone. Knitting Factory CEO Morgan Margolis adds, “Desert Daze has been a multi-year journey for KFE and we’re ecstatic to continue--I’m personally looking forward to getting back to work with our teams and bringing this incredible curated event to the fans again.” Southern California’s KCRW-FM is a co-presenter of the event.

Tickets, parking and camping passes will be on sale Friday, July 23 at 10am PT and start at $75 for single day tickets, and $225 for 3-Show passes with payment plans available for 3-Show passes only. Desert Daze capacity will be limited this year to accommodate for safety measures, and fans are encouraged to purchase passes early as the weekend is expected to sell out quickly.

Legendary Afrobeat artist and Kuti family scion SEUN KUTI & EGYPT 80 has an upcoming US and European tour, manager Annie Ohayon of Knitting Factory Management announced today. Seun and his Egypt 80 band kick off their tour in the UK on June 1 and are currently booked through September 23, at the new Format Festival in Bentonville, Arkansas, USA. They’re hitting stops at major festivals like Glastonbury and unique venues like the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix along the way—24 dates in all, with more European dates possible in October.

“I’m excited to return to touring after too long away,” Seun says. “My band Egypt 80 and I look forward to retaking the world stage, and hope as always that our music will help make the world a more generous, kinder and more livable place, not only to fans but to its underrepresented people.”

On tour, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 will be performing songs from his catalogue and his most recent album Black Times. Seun has also been rehearsing and recording several new songs he expects to perform on tour.

Seun’s taken time off the road but has remained creatively active. He first performed the song “When We Move,” a collaboration with Common and Black Thought—co-founder and MC of The Tonight Show house band The Roots—last June to a worldwide audience alongside an all-star roster of musicians for UN World Oceans Day. In that song, Seun continues to ask the difficult questions: “Would they feel the pain like we do? Would they hear a cry like we do?”

The trio then debuted a live performance of “When We Move,” on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show last August, which featured Seun's performance and dance footage from The New Afrika Shrine in Lagos intercut with live performances by Common, Black Thought and The Roots on stage at Rockefeller Center in New York.

Knitting Factory Management’s SEUN KUTI & EGYPT 80 will debut two brand-new songs from their upcoming album that were recorded live at Clout Studio—the legendary premises of Cool FM 96.9 on Victoria Island in Lagos. The tracks, titled "Love and Revolution" and “Emi Aluta,” will be released by The Orchard on Friday, June 24th, and will be available on Apple Music, Spotify, and Soundcloud.

For the first time in years, legendary Afrobeat artist and Kuti family scion Seun Kuti is relentlessly touring the globe with an ongoing European and US tour, concluding with a performance at the tenth annual Desert Daze on September 30. The tour includes stops at major festivals like Glastonbury and unique venues along the way, traversing the UK, Italy, Morocco, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, and America. Shows will include classic anthems and songs from their catalogue—including the most recent Grammy-nominated album Black Times—alongside new material.

With a weekly radio show, mythical gigs at The New Afrika Shrine, and a righteous social media presence, Seun is revered in Nigeria and worldwide. We hope you’ll agree that he is an international figure—the standard-bearer for the Afrobeat movement—worthy of your attention.
