Hot off his Grammy nomination for the Daft Punk remix on the Tron soundtrack, legendary drum and bass pioneer, PHOTEK, drops his new album KU:PALM on October 23, 2012, his first album in over a decade. After a brief time out, PHOTEK signaled he was back in the studio at the start of 2011 with the Avalanche EP –  his first dancefloor-focused release for a number of years. PHOTEK has since gone on to deliver the Aviator EP, a much-hyped DJ-Kicks release for !K7 and now… Now is the time for the artist’s full album. Now is the time for KU:PALM.

"As the album started to take shape it felt like it was sitting halfway between Modus Operandi and Solaris – which I felt was a good place to be. Now it’s finished, it might well be my favourite album to date.”With ‘Modus Operandi’ and ‘Solaris’ both regarded as seminal releases of their time – the word ‘classic’ is  is no  over-statement – this is the message from a producer who has been there and done it all, and is feeling more inspired than ever.

Over the past 20-years Photek, has been on a sonic-journey that has seen him explore all corners of electronic music. Often surprising, always original, it was in 1995 that he released his first Photek release – the still-amazing ‘Natural Born Killa’ EP for Goldie’s Metalheadz. It was a release that transcended the sound of drum’n’bass at the time and his deeper, more intricate take on D’n’B/Jungle went on to form a whole new sub-genre for the scene. Fast-forward to 2012 and he’s just as well-known for his ambient works, cinematic scores from Pirates of the Caribean and The Italian Job, and love of house music. It’s this open-minded approach to sound that has revived so much of his passion for the dancefloor.

Photek has drawn inspiration from both the old and new on KU:PALM, delivering an album that is defined by new ideas and superior sonics – not genre classification. He explains, "This album had to be the right listening experience for the headphone listeners as much as on a club soundsystem.”

Varying in tempos and ranging in influence, recent tracks such as ‘Aviator’, ‘Sleepwalking’ and ‘This Love’ (with vocals by Ray La Montagne) all feature, sitting alongside a variety of brand new material.

- Digital & CD available at www.photek.fm now and in all other download stores on October 30.

- Pre-order on iTunes

Beats Antique, the highly acclaimed electronica and experimental world fusion music act,  present their new music video for "Skeleton Key", the lead single from their latest album Contraption Vol. 2.  The video was directed by Basia Goszczynska, a Polish-Canadian animation producer/director currently based in Falmouth, Massachusetts. The music video for "Skeleton Key" is a surreal stop motion story that fascinates the eye and leaves the mind happily bewildered. For the video, she fashions the puppets and sets out of almost entirely found objects: seed pods gathered in Maui and natural materials collected from the woods and beaches of Cape Cod. Lobster claws and a boar's skeleton also made their way into the characters as well. Goszczynska's meticulous attention to detail translates into a rich visual tapestry that draws you in and keeps you captivated.

From the depths of the American indie-folk movement hails the vast and heart-warming musical journey known as The Herbert Bail Orchestra. Based in the understanding of emotion and deception, this uniquely talented group transcends the modern portrayal of performance with utmost lust for the craft. Following the release of their first, self-titled EP in 2011 comes a full length album entitled The Future’s in the Past.At a young age, lead singer and guitarist Anthony Frattolillo spent his Friday nights helping his music teacher and mentor, Juan, complete his janitorial services. Juan was a janitor and doorman who happened to be a musical genius from Chile. In exchange for some elbow grease, Juan had more time to teach Frattolillo how to play guitar at the end of his late night shift.  Years later, armed with an overwhelming sense of vigor and awe-inspiring honesty, Frattolillo and accordion player/trombonist Andrew Katz, lead a rogue ensemble whose unique and earnest narrative prods the imagination of their listeners to look deeper -- even into themselves. With deep and compelling humility, Frattolillo and Katz are joined by up to seven other members of the rotating cast, revealing vast and sprawling soundscapes, etched out with violin, trumpet, trombone, banjo, keys, bass, and percussion.Their new album, The Future’s in the Past, traverses from the cryptic shadows of “Holy Smokes” to the western infused ballad portrayed in “The Nature of Things”, landing everywhere in between. By mirroring the human condition, this all-encompassing album spans from unimaginable heights and plunges to the dimmest lows.Attention to detail and utmost soulfulness calls awake similarities between the band and modern folk legends such as Mumford & Sons, Arcade Fire and Devotchka. The Herbert Bail Orchestra has earned notable attention with features on KXLU radio, KTLA TV, Good Morning LA, AXS TV, and was recently featured in BuzzBandsLA and was Filter Magazine’s Featured Band of the Month for February 2013.While trickery and duplicity run rampant through the chronicles of The Herbert Bail Orchestra, one thing is certain; the purpose is in the voyage.Upcoming Shows:3/16/2013 - Austin @ SXSW - Daddy Dale's3/21/2013 - Las Vegas @ Beauty Bar3/25/2013 - Los Angeles @ Echoplex4/11/2013 - Los Angeles @ Harvard & Stone

On June 14th, four of Los Angeles’ largest promotion companies will join forces to host “Illuminate”, an album fundraiser party for electronic crossover artist, Maki Hsieh's highly-anticipated debut album “Illuminate”.  (Tickets)

Fusing her skills as a fierce violinist and genre-defying vocalist with a nine language, three-octave operatic range, Maki Hsieh weaves her way through electronic beats to forge a truly unique contemporary soundscape. Remarkably, Maki was born mostly deaf and lives largely in a world of vibrations.  Her album “Illuminate”, is a collaborative effort with multiple electronic producers. The first single off the album will be released in July, a second single in August, with the full album release set for October 2014.

Promoters "The Cruz Coalition," "The Good Vibe," "ROAM Creative," and "BurnLA" are hosting the fundraising event at Lot 613, providing their unique flavor to the event, which will resemble the conscious, transformational movement made popular by festivals like Lightning in a Bottle and Burning Man.

There will be two dueling stages, one dubstep and the other house music, featuring producers who worked on Maki's album. Maki will perform with many of the performers throughout the night including headliners Ill-esha, Stephan Jacobs, Shawna, and many more.

In between the two stages, an artisan outdoor courtyard will feature eight live painters and 15 artists showcasing innovative creations including light sculptures, photography, flow art and jewelry.

Lot 613 is located at 613 Imperial Street in Los Angeles. Pre-sale tickets are $15 or $20 at the website http://illuminate-fundraiser.eventbrite.com and $25 if purchased at the door.

“Shambhala,” in ancient cultures, is synonymous with a secret kingdom hidden deep in the East where all its inhabitants are enlightened. But tucked inside the emerald forests of the Selkirk Mountains in Canada, you will find a modern take on this mystic, sacred utopia.

The Shambhala Music Festival returns on August 7-10, 2015 to the immaculate Salmo River Valley. Now in its unprecedented 18th year, the Canadian electronic music and camping festival is pleased to announce headliners Kygo, Pretty Lights and Skrillex to its 2015 lineup. Big Gigantic, Bonobo, Camo & Krooked, Claude VonStroke, Crnkn, Datsik, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Harvey, Dusky, Koan Sound, Kry Wolf, Lucent Dossier Experience, Griz, Mix Master Mike, MK, Mr. Carmack, Tipper (2 sets), Thomas Jack, and Zomboy are only some of the 300-plus artists that round out the explosive bill.

Shambhala began in 1998 as a grassroots gathering of 500 people on founder, Jimmy Bundschuh’s family farm, and has grown primarily by word-of-mouth thanks to its past patrons and artists. Last year, some 11,000 people made the trek to the unspoiled, majestic Salmo River Ranch (fondly called “The Farm”) - tucked away within an evergreen forest beneath breath-taking peaks - to Canada’s premiere dance music festival, making Shambhala the largest city in British Columbia’s West Kootenay region for the weekend. 2014 headliner, Bassnectar, called last year “the best Shambhala ever”, while publications like VICE/Thump hailed it “a grand celebration of music, nature, creativity, art, love, and life … Shambhala reaches into your chest, pulls your soul out of its neat little bubble, and whispers words of encouragement for it to fly.”

Unlike other festivals, Shambhala’s six stages are each curated and independently run by their own respective stage directors; in most cases they are tastemakers in the Canadian music scene who have been returning to the festival for more than a decade. Each stage has its own theme: Pagoda, Shambhala’s main stage will feature some of the most beautiful, melodic and uplifting dance music in the world today, from the funkier side of bass music to the crunchier side of house. The Village stage assembles the best in drum and bass, trap, glitch hop, hip hop and dubstep. This year’s Fractal Forest stage pays homage to old school hip-hop and house, and is widely considered the fest’s funky haven. The Living Room stage is a range of the deepest of dub, zouk, bass, disco funk, house and Latin flavours. The Amphitheatre is perhaps the most eclectic of all the stages, running the gamut between urban beats and future bass music. The fest’s newest stage, The Grove, curates world bass music, deep dubstep, and garage.  Look out for each stage’s lineup in the coming weeks beginning March 30.

Shambhala Music Festival’s permanent home has evolved and scaled over the last 18 years, introducing inspiring transformations to its infrastructure to ensure a healthy, sustainable environment. Years in the making, energy for this year’s festival will be provided by a newly built underground conduit, replacing noisy, stinky generators and, greatly reducing the festival’s carbon footprint.  Additionally, this is the first year the Farm will use its own newly built wastewater treatment plant to avoid trucking wastewater off the grounds. This translates into an increased supply of freshwater, a greater number of fill stations, and longer running showers. Additionally, to further its sustainability goals, the Farm has increased food production to feed its 700-plus person crew each day plus guests.

Tickets are currently on sale for $365 for the entire weekend. High-end camping packages are offered in addition to some other accommodation packages for those traveling from afar. Public transportation from Vancouver, BC; Calgary, AB; and Spokane, WA is available through Queen City Shuttle & Charters. Carpool options and additional travel information is available on the Shambhala website, ShambhalaMusicFestival.com.

If you believe in the religion of kindness, opening your heart to new experiences and friends, and the ability for people to come together and create an enlightened society to the tune of electronic music, then its no hidden secret that Shambhala Music Festival 2015 is your kind of place. Shambhalove!

On Saturday, the 2015 Shambhala Music Festival finished a week-long daily roll out of six individual stage lineup announcements.  Unlike other festivals, Shambhala’s six stages are each curated and independently run by their own respective stage directors, who in most cases are tastemakers in the Canadian music scene who have been returning to the festival for more than a decade. Check out the newly released 2014 recap video here, which showcases the festival in all its neon-soaked, utopian beauty.

Now in its unprecedented 18th year, the Shambhala Music Festival returns to the immaculate Salmo River Valley on August 7-10, 2015 where the Canadian electronic music and camping festival is pleased to host 300-plus artists to round out an explosive bill.  Distinct with contrasting music styles, sound systems, environments, and ambiance, Shambhala’s The Village, Fractal Forest, The Living Room, Amphitheatre, The Grove, and Pagoda stages will take on a life all their own through next level audiovisual experiences.

Described as a “supernatural, sci-fi, Tiki town,” The Village features tree forts interconnected by catwalks and bridges surrounding the dance floor. Festival goers can enjoy DJ’s, breakdancers, performance art, turntablists, MC’s, and aerialists through 200,000 watts of premium vibrations supplied by PK Sound.  Skrillex, KOAN Sound, Lucent Dossier Experience, Big Gigantic, and returning favorite DATSIK will be joined by over 30 more artists to bring on the rumbling bass of everything from glitch, grime, and drum’n’bass, to dubstep, trap, hip-hop, electro, and ragga jungle, alongside phenomenal performance troupes, and everything in between.

Pyramids, flowers, and friendly forest creatures shape the enchanted Fractal Forest, where DJs play in the heart of a burnt out old-growth cedar tree stump, surrounded by a 360 degree immersive, interactive environment featuring the most beautiful dancers on the planet.  This year’s Fractal Forest will pay homage to old school hip-hop and house when they host Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and over 40-plus performers for what has been dubbed the “funkiest show on earth”

The only non-permanent stage and often referred to as the “comfort space” of the festival, The Living Room provides a variety of global genres and electronic soundscapes ranging from the deepest of dub and downtempo, to zouk bass, disco funk, groovy house, and Latin flavors. This year, DJ Harvey and Tipper (who will perform not just one, but two sets over the weekend) will appear alongside 60-plus performance artists and visualists at The Living Room stage.  With an ever evolving festival landscape, it’s anyone’s guess where The Living Room stage will be located this year.

The Amphitheatre is perhaps the most eclectic of all the stages, running the gamut of bass-driven music,  from trap to future bass, funk, world bass, and more. Known affectionately as “The Amp”, the Amphitheatre will feature artists such as Mr. Carmack and CRNKN plus over 40 MCs and performers, promising the most insane mix of hybrid trap and bass music ever heard.

The fest’s newest stage, The Grove, is a fully immersive, ever-changing creative space featuring conscious, mind-expanding workshops and live painters during the day.  At night, the stage is transformed by a vibrant lineup of world bass music, glitch hop, deep dubstep, and garage acts. The Grove will feature DJ sets by Bonobo and Tipper with Android Jones on visual duty for a total of over 50 performances throughout the weekend.Boasting plenty of relaxing chill zones and a welcoming dance floor, The Grove features state-of-the-art lighting and visuals in conjunction with a full spectrum sound system, providing the perfect landscape for live performance art and musical acts.

Standing boldly as Shambhala Music Festival’s main attraction, The Pagoda stage consistently pushes sensory boundaries while triumphantly touting top notch global talent.  Known for its loyalty to dance music, The Pagoda promises an interstellar, audiovisual feast as transforms into a mecca of music and a cacophony of sound.  Legends in west coast bass, funky house, and disco, and tropical house will be banging it out with sets from artists like Claude VonStroke, Pretty Lights, Kygo, Griz, Thomas Jack, MK, Dusky, and over 30 more performers including one yet to be announced mystery guest!  This year, the stage is enlisting more renovations, art, lights, decor, sound and video mapping than ever before for the dancing adventure of a lifetime.

Shambhala Music Festival’s permanent home has evolved and scaled over the years, introducing inspiring transformations to its infrastructure to ensure a healthy, sustainable environment.  Last year, some 11,000 people made the trek to the majestic Salmo River Ranch tucked away within an evergreen forest beneath breathtaking peaks, making Shambhala the largest city in British Columbia’s West Kootenay region for the weekend. 2014 headliner, Bassnectar, called last year “the best Shambhala ever!”

Tickets are on sale now at the Shambhala Music Festival website.  Early bird tickets are sold out but full weekend passes are still available for $365 with various add-on camping packages also available. Early entry is also available beginning Wednesday August 5th for an additional charge per guidelines here. The festival sold out last year and tickets for this year will go quickly.

California's premiere music, arts and camp-out festival, Lightning in a Bottle, closed out another successful event this past Memorial Day Weekend, attracting its largest audience to date. Twenty thousand people made the pilgrimage to Bradley, CA attend the sold out festival known for its world-class performers, mesmerizing stage designs, interactive art, yoga, and health-conscious workshops.

Coming off a game-changing year at Coachella with their namesake stage, Lighting in a Bottle’s powerhouse production crew, Do LaB, made vast improvements to the festival grounds including additional large-scale shade structures, expanded camping areas, a cohesive layout, and much celebrated ravine bridges.

Structural open-air changes to LiB’s main attraction, the Lightning Stage, allowed participants to dance day and night to emerging artists such as Flume, Odesza, SBTRKT, Tycho, Active Child, Lucent Dossier Experience, plus much buzzed about performers like Bob Moses, Âme, Shiba San, Thomas Jack, and veteran John Digweed at the colorful “treehouse” stage, The Woogie. The latest LiB addition, the Thunder Stage, showcased glitch-hop and bass-centric beats from the likes of Koan Sound, RL Grime, and G Jones alongside eclectic music from acts like electro funk saxophonist Griz, STWO, Les Sins, and more. Late night dwellers could keep the party going with early morning sets hosted by the Pagoda and Favela Bars conveniently located at opposite ends of the festival grounds.

In additions, attendees could explore a plethora of interactive art installations, from high-rise, giant tea pots aptly named Lost Tea Party, to Andrew “Android” Jones’ 360-immersion MOVA Gallery dome, and theme camps like the Grand Artique and Amori’s Casino & Burlesque. The Lucent Temple of Consciousness hosted two stages of daily yoga classes, movement workshops, world class speakers and performers, a mystery school, plus The Village’s Learning Kitchen, with classes on essential oils, cooking, and more.

LiB is the most environmentally conscious festival in America, having received the Outstanding Award four years running from A Greener Festival for its healthy food vendors, free water stations, composting and recycling infrastructure, pack-it-in/pack-it-out policy, and other green initiatives.

A dynamic setting with a sprawling landscape, Do LaB transformed what was once known as the old-stomping ground for their long-revered Lightning in a Bottle festival into a mecca for fun and frivolity, ripe with delightful details that enhanced the weekend spirit of positive vibes and perseverance. Through rain and shine, revelers dove head first into the comprehensive assortment of activities Woogie Weekend had to offer, including an adult-sized slip ‘n slide hosted by LA’s silliest and sophisticated performance troupe extraordinaire Bijoulette. This time around Do LaB is stealing some of the more vibrant elements from their “Big Fish” stage at Coachella by upping the ante with new water games, misters, and strategic splashing!

Adding to the list of activities are sunrise yoga sets, live art from the Do Art Foundation and a healthy buffet of local fare to satisfy the palette.  Five-time Winner of A Greener Festival’s ‘Outstanding Award’ for Lightning in a Bottle, Do LaB makes no exception for Woogie Weekend, as the festival embraces eco-conscious initiatives, including free water stations, a recycling system, composting, and a “leave it better/leave it beautiful” policy.

Recognized by BBC Radio as “One of the most brilliant world-fusion producers of our time,” Los Angeles-based electronic music producer David Starfire returns with his highly anticipated benefit album Karuna, out Tuesday, March 1, 2016 available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Beatport, Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music and all digital music stores.

Karuna is David Starfire’s fifth album and features the first time visionary artist Alex Grey has allowed his voice to be used in a song in addition to collaborations with William Close and The Earth Harp, Govinda, and several other world-renowned artists. The album was also David’s first Kickstarter-funded charity focused release, which enabled him to become the premiere electronic artist to collaborate with Burmese musicians on an entire album while visiting refugee border zones in Northern Thailand during a time of political unrest in 2015. The album title translates to ‘Compassion’ from Sanskrit and its ethos lives up to the name with all the album’s proceeds going directly to the Thai Freedom House - a non-profit organization located in Chiang Mai devoted to educating Burmese refugees through language, arts and academic programs.

Karuna boasts a soundscape rich with multiple layers of contrast, from the integration of Eastern and Western scales, to the juxtaposition of  native and modern instruments. Incorporating glitched violins, delayed xylophone, gamelan, homemade harps, buffalo horn flutes, and Burmese vocals, this album proudly displays the complexity and versatility of Burmese musicianship layered against the texture of booming bass lines and seductive synths.

“The One” features Alex Grey, the legendary visionary artist and philosopher, who recites an excerpt from his book Art Psalms, alongside the shamanic flute of Joaqopelli. During his visit in the Burmese refugee town of Mae Sot, Starfire recorded with harp player and social activist Doo Plout, featured on the track “Tenaku” alongside composition from William Close and The Earth Harp Collective, world-renowned musician and installation artist who turns architecture into instruments. “Y’wa” features the voice of Chi Suwichan, a prominent Karen social activist and harp player who travels the globe promoting the cause of his people through music.

Karuna also features collaborations with Burmese stroh violinist Len Pong, vocalist Gonlao, and temple drummers from Wat Pa Pao and Wat Tung Salee in addition to electronic artist/violinist Govinda, violinist HÄANA, hammer dulcimer player Jamie Janover, vocalist Oriel Poole, and more as well as stunning cover art from esteemed digital painter Android Jones.

To commemorate the release of Karuna, David Starfire will descend on Los Angeles for an album release party at Santa Monica’s Zanzibar on Wednesday, March 2nd 2016. Hosted by The Luminous Movement, the evening features sonically salacious supporting sets from Rhythmstar, Imagika Om and Electric Dandelion. Sun-kissed days filled with mind-expanding workshops, philosophical discussions, yoga classes, short walks to the ocean, or a drive to a local waterfall transformed into celebratory tropical nights with an intoxicating musical lineup performing on one of four dazzling stages - Luna, Sol, Lapa, and The Village Stage.

For a stunning first look into the essence of Envision - check out the beautiful Envision Festival 2016 recap video filmed and edited by Ari Fararooy.

2016 welcomed expansions to the festival including Casa de Yoga, a new zone that included two permanently installed bamboo yoga temples, the Gaia fresh juice bar, the Kula Lounge offering cacao ceremonies, and a substance-free campground. Internationally known movement and yoga teachers included author and founder of 109world.com Rachel Brathen, founder of the Goddess Yoga Project Sianna Sherman, celebrated 5Rhythms facilitator Amber Ryan, pioneer of the One Yoga movement in Trinidad and Tobago Troy Hadeed, co-founder of The Avahana School of Yoga Ashleigh Sergeant, and Mexico City’s Classic Hatha Yoga master Marcos Jassan. Kids activities were enjoyed in the Family Dream Oasis to entertain and educate Envision’s adventurous families. Envision also offered both pre and post festival educational retreats, under its new division ‘Envision Education’, which showcased everything from tours of Costa Rica to permaculture immersion, an herbal clinic intensive, and a post event yoga/detox/surfing Reboot Camp -- more of these boutique-Envision experiences to come in 2017.

Festival expansions also included an upgraded medical tent employing both Western and Eastern medical practices with a free herbal clinic offering herbal remedies and tonics alongside conventional treatments. For those wanting an upgrade to their camping experience, the La Sombra VIP Camping zone offered decked out tree house suites and canvas-wrapped bungalows in addition to 24hr concierge service, a salon boutique, and private bathrooms/showers. The newly erected Templo de la Tierra offered sacred fire ceremonies at sunrise and sunset or a quiet area to sit in meditation within the temple dome.

A pioneer in green festival design, Envision set forth environmentally sound initiatives throughout all aspects of the festival. Most Envision structure were built from bamboo and other locally-sourced materials (not a single metal framed vinyl tent could be found). A long-term lease on the property has allowed the festival to plant fresh banana, papaya, and other local ornamental flora to line pathways and provide natural fencing, unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Throughout the festival, all “single-use” cups and tableware were banned and replaced with reusable items and a festival-wide dish washing program, drastically reducing the amount of waste at the festival. Additionally, all generators were powered by bio-diesel, a virtually unprecedented practice in Costa Rica.

Bass-heavy artists such as Shpongle, The Human Experience, Dimond Saints, Spoonbill, and CloZee, performed on an imported Funktion1 soundsystem on the impressive Luna Stage.Designed by visionary artist Carey Thompson, Luna bellowed in the form of a towering mariposa (butterfly), incorporating 3D projection mapping by the famed Mexico City artist, Golem. Performances were viewable across the expansive field, where attendees could climb a massive, multi-level bamboo jungle gym or witness visionary live paintings by global muralists Ernest Doty, Hazul, Mario Belem, and Anderson Deberardi on the walkways leading to the Envision Art Gallery. Alongside the howler monkeys in the treetops, day-chasers welcomed the sun as they danced to Random Rab during his fabled, ethereal sunrise set.

The equally impressive Sol Stage featured complex psychedelic 3D mapping projected onto its sun centerpiece by Zebbler Studios. Sol hosted live music from California’s experimental, world-fusion band Beats Antique (Live), Saint Croix reggae legends Akae Beka (formerly Midnite), Costa Rica’s 80s synth-pop band Patterns (noted as a top band to see at SXSW 2016), Colorado-based folk musicians Elephant Revival, and Costa Rica’s stand out electro-fusion rock band (and surprise festival favorite) Santos y Zurdo offering one of the most unique sets of the weekend complete with electric sitar.House and techno music came alive on the more intimate Lapa stage, where legends such as Desert Hearts’ Lee Reynolds, tribal house leaders Bedouin, Berlin-based DJ and production duo, M.A.N.D.Y., progressive trance dub DJ Grouch, and Los Angeles-based deep house selector Tara Brooks, drew  dancing revelers into its feathered domain.

In the heart of the festival grounds stood The Village, a bustling caravan of educational workshops, inspirational speakers, vendors, and the fresh produce Vida Market complete with the live music Village Stage, Tea House Lounge, and a women’s only Red Tent pavilion. The Village Stage hosted insightful and speakers such as nutritional expert David Wolfe, astrologer Kaypacha, City Repair Project’s Executive Director Marc Tobin, and sustainable living educator and Envision Co-Founder Stephen Brooks, plus live musical performances by Vir, Camilo, and Incus. The Witches Healing Sanctuary provided a unique communal healing and ceremony space for herbalists, body workers and educators to share therapeutic practices. Craft vendors boasted unconventional souvenirs with beautiful handcrafted jewelry, art, and clothing from across the Americas. Food vendors offered a selection of mouthwatering world cuisine and local dishes made from unprocessed, fresh food sourced from local farms.

Having successfully set itself apart from other music-driven festivals through its emphasis on soul empowerment and holistic living, Envision seeks to fulfill an inherent human desire to connect with like-minded individuals and feed the innate human need to be and live interconnected with nature. Monumental and captivating art installations, melodies of pink and red sunsets, playful animative performers and the natural eye-catching rolling hills landscape served as the backdrop for the affair, providing an enchanting portal for intimate moments and aural discoveries alike. Early risers were treated to daily yoga underneath the light, airy throes of the Lightning Stage, which hosted an array of practices including a set with music curated by Marques Wyatt and yoga under William Close’s renowned Earth Harp. After yogis stretched their limbs and opened their hearts, the Lightning stage showcased the festival’s top acts from early afternoon into daybreak of the next day with performances from sensual and soulful Chet Faker, gripping and emotive post minimal sounds from Moderat, an intoxicating and meandering set from Jamie XX, jazz saxophonist stylings of Big Gigantic, an ethereal Grimes, hip hop vocalist and producer Lafa Taylor who invited a bevy of dancers onstage, and a trippy, otherworldly live afternoon performance from Russ Liquid Test - plus many others!

Sunny skies brought daytime dance parties, where The Woogie stage shone brightest. As temperatures turned up the heat, house and techno worshipers flocked to the prismatic awnings of the stage, which featured a fanciful entanglement of neon piping winding and wrapping around the DJ booth. Afternoon sets laden with misters and good vibes regaled audiences, where progressive producers such as Sacha Robotti, Justin Jay, Jonas Rathsman, Lane 8 and Lee Burridge took turns spinning long after the sun rays had fallen beyond the horizon. The Woogie also hosted an early Saturday morning memorial tribute honoring the late resident favorite Pumpkin, as many friends and family gathered to celebrate and dance under the magical canopy Pumpkin had played so many times before.

Twilight beckoned wanderers in search of the wonderfully weird and bass-centric beats, those who ventured into the evening found themselves fully immersed in the mystical offerings of the night, each stage brimming with late night sets. The festival’s other main stage the Thunder, an amped up version of Do LaB’s Big Fish at Coachella complete with the 2016 addition of  visual screens, lived up to its namesake with showstopping, mesmerizing sets from the world’s preeminent bass music aficionados. Day and night, the Thunder unfurled a fury of innovative sound, culminating with long-time LIB’ing Legends Pantyraid closing out the gathering with an unforgettable Sunday night set.Supporting acts over the weekend included Cashmere Cat, Ekali, TOKiMONSTA, Eprom, Dimond Saints, Mija and an incredible b2b by G Jones and Minnesota who delivered one of the most dynamic sets of the weekend.

Keeping the tunes pumping throughout the day and long after the main stages went quiet after 2am, were the Favela and Pagoda bars, which helped to ring in the weekend festivities by starting off the music on Thursday prior to the main stages coming to life on Friday and continuing into dawn on Monday. Surprise sets were key aspects of both stages, with LIB artists Patricio, Autograf and The Glitch Mob’s Boreta all stopping by for late night thrills.

Roamers found themselves stumbling across the many immersive environments of Lightning in a Bottle, which features music, art, and interactive installations. Environments such as The Grand Artique boasted a large-scale revisioned stage for late night frivolity, the mysterious Lightning Inn was a labyrinth of secret rooms requiring finding clues, passwords, and improvising with the hotel’s wild staff to enter, while The Lost Hotel churned relentless beats and played host to an interactive dining experience.Other dining experiences could be found across the festival grounds with The Village hosting The Last Supper Club and Amori’s hosting one ripe with tantalizing food and saucy burlesque.

The festival’s spiritual epicenter, The Temple of Consciousness, featured an enlightening Cacao Ceremony to open the weekend with intention and purpose, and later welcomed headliner Chet Faker for a secret surprise set. Prince Ea also shared an inspiring Q&A session at The Temple moderated by Dream Rockwell for those looking to bathe in his wordsmithery that challenges preconceived political, social, and environmental ideals. Those in search of educational forums hit The Village and The Learning Kitchen, where pioneering luminaries such as Cherie Rae Russell, Marza Miller, Jennifer Dumpert, and many others enlightened open ears.

New in 2016 was the first ever Do LaB invitational Soap Box Derby, held on a steep hill just behind The Woogie. Lucky contenders had a chance to enter the race with homemade derby cars which this year included a silver bullet, skateboard, blue pig, and coffin + many more iconic creations on wheels with the winning entry being a very large banana driven by two Do LaB founders.

LIB proudly continues its reign as the most environmentally conscious festival in America, having received the Outstanding Award five years running from A Greener Festival for its healthy food vendors, free water stations, composting and recycling infrastructure, “Leave it Better, Leave it Beautiful” policy, and other green initiatives.

Following the smashing success of LIB 2016, Do LaB sets their sights on LIB’s sister festival Woogie Weekend taking place this July 8-10 for its sophomore year at Oak Canyon Park in Silverado, SoCal. An intimate musical adventure, Woogie Weekend features house and techno’s rising stars plus a master class of veterans poised to bring the house party vibes. With just over a month to go before NorCal’s Enchanted Forest Gathering opens up its hallowed gates for bass music aficionados, yogis and families alike, the cultural dialogue on alcohol-free events continues to grow. With five years of wind at its back, EFG’s position on the subject has now become one of its key distinguishing features. Festival founder, Tulku explains, “By bringing together thousands of people and removing the vibration of alcohol, we have created a truly unique gathering. We consistently get the reflection from women that they feel safe here and more free to express themselves. Our Security team actually gives us a discount because there are never any fights that break out and our festival grounds are left much more pristine throughout the event. The level of connection found here is more coherent and authentic.”

While alcohol may not be present, EFG hosts no less of a party atmosphere with an emphasis on conscious movement and dance, as a return to our bodies and an alternative to alcohol. From embracing #FreeTheNipple, to a literal non-stop Saucy Spa shower party, the lack of alcohol and mutual coherent respect of one another, along with a manageable and capped attendance create an intimacy and inspiration for self-expression that isn’t found at any other festival in the US.

Even the world’s funkiest diplomat, The Polish Ambassador, shares these values as he stated “Enchanted Forest has become one of the West Coast's premier transformational festivals. I think it is totally rad that they have embraced a no-alcohol festival model. It encourages people to get high on life and try new things they otherwise may not!”

“Get Saucy, Not Sauced!”

Since its inception, Enchanted Forest Gathering’s mission has been to nourish and activate personal growth within its participants, inspire collective sharing and redefine conscious celebration. To that end, they have continued to build upon a safe and alcohol-free environment which serves as fertile ground for a new kind of festival experience and a container for an experimental way of life. This experiment inspires attendees to find deeper, more meaningful stimulation free of alcohol, setting a remarkably different tone for a gathering and encouraging new kinds of expression.

Scattered across the festival grounds are delicious herbal elixir bars, tea lounges, and cacao drinks for loving consumption, which allow attendees to create a lasting buzz complete with delightful bodily effects that can be remembered in the morning. Additional alternatives to “the sauce” are the four Revive Kombucha elixir bars throughout the site, the Nourishment Nook, which offers organic and healthy food vendor selections to nourish and recharge the body and mind, and the Saucy Spa, where a sound system and dance party is set up adjacent to a sauna that uses the heat to create healthy stimulation while lathering the crowd. The spa also plays host to daily shower parties and a delightfully bubbly foam tub.

Why Smaller is Desirable

Over the years, attendees of the festival have shared that keeping the festival under 5k in addition to the alcohol free environment enables them to feel more comfortable with their self-expression as other attendees remain more present, conscious, clear and connected. Without the concerns of overbearing crowds, long lines, and disconnect within the community, the smaller size of Enchanted Forest Gathering makes the festival a desirable option on the ever growing list of transformational festivals. Attendees are more likely to make heart to heart connections as they have opportunities to repeatedly engage with new and existing friends, which helps deepen the overall experience and community. As attendee and Marketing Operations Manager Megan Pru says, “Personally I feel the alcohol free status and the small, intimate vibe of the festival make me feel more safe than any other festival environment to truly go all the way with my costume choices and dress for the weather.”

Free the Nipple

By keeping a mindful eye on attendance numbers, creating an alcohol-free space, and maintaining close-knit vibes, Enchanted Forest Gathering allows participants to fully harness and illuminate their individuality, fully clothed -- or not! The festival has always stood behind the mottos that “Safe is sexy and consent is mandatory” and that being naked is not about being sexual, it’s about being free. The Gathering is proud to embrace and help promote the message of equality at the core of the #FreeTheNipple campaign. With attendee comfort and positivity being of the utmost importance to the festival, Enchanted Forest Gathering leads the way in allowing this form of expression at a festival.

Returning to the lush landscape of Black Oak Ranch in Laytonville, CA July 22 - 24, 2016,Enchanted Forest Gathering celebrates its sixth year as NorCal’s premier boutique music, movement, and conscious living camping festival. A magical weekend came to a close on the captivating grounds of historic Black Oak Ranch in Mendocino County as the 6th annual Enchanted Forest Gathering wrapped another wondrous festival experience within the lush embrace of the majestic oak forest and refreshing Tenmile Creek. Attracting attendees from all walks of life; millennials, bass heads, yogis, families, dancers and everyone in between, Enchanted Forest Gathering has cemented its spot as Northern California’s premier boutique music, movement, and conscious living camping festival. The event garnered national attention and participant adoration for several of its defining characteristics; being an alcohol-free event, enabling guests a safe container for all forms of expression (including #FreeTheNipple) as well as hosting an on-site medical cannabis dispensary -- all while taking place in an incredibly comfortable family-friendly environment.

Extraordinary and unconventional, Enchanted Forest Gathering radiated sublime vibes that dazzled participants with a weekend chock-full of educational and inspiring workshops, wonky bass and eclectic live music, and an unrivaled offering of flow and movement classes of all forms including hooping, yoga, dance and even juggling. Distancing itself from its contemporaries in numerous ways, Enchanted Forest Gathering first and foremost fostered an alcohol-free environment, where attendees found themselves elevated to a state of higher presence, perfectly in line with the festival’s pillar of “cultivating clear and conscious connection.” Healthier (and tastier!) alternatives to alcohol were provided at each stage’s neighboring elixir bar, serving up an array of beverages from Americanos and hot chocolate to coconut water, Yerba Mate, Kombucha and cacao boosts. For those with a medicinal marijuana recommendation, local medical cannabis dispensary Emerald Pharms hosted a booth on site further displaying the festival’s forward thinking.

Beautifully constructed etched-wood stages, adorned with fresh greenery, flowers, crystals and vibrant colors were the aesthetic of the Mighty Oak main stage and the wet and wild River Stage, while velvet curtains and Greek-style columns dressed up the Live Lounge, all under the rich, green oak trees towering above them. With a focus on attendee comfort, each stage included shade structures to watch the show, foam dance floors, and lounge areas. A mix of incredible live bands and bass heavy artists united at the gathering with stand out sets from Shpongle, Clozee, Thriftworks, PANTYRAID, Love and Light, Nominus, Reid Speed, Soohan, KRNE, The Polish Ambassador, Autograf, Fanna Fi Allah, Ayla Nereo, and more.

Thoughtfully placed among the music stages were magical interactive micro-environments and art installations fit for revelers of all ages. Activities were plentiful for those who wanted to share special moments alone or with the whole tribe which included everything from themeandering Tenmile Creek Swimmin’ Hole that bordered one side of the grounds, the playful Kidslandia children’s area complete with free play and Montessori daycare services, the Namastage Yoga area and Dance Temple for amazing classes in movement with teachers such as Suzanne Sterling, Darin McFayden & Claire Thompson (of Yoga and Bass), and Saqi, the Nectar Temple and Wisdom Share University & Community Center for life-changing educational health & nutritional workshops, and of course the Saucy Spa stage with a one-of-a-kind foam bath party and ecstatic dance area.

The legendary venue became the sacred grounds for workshops covering four main topics: Relationships and Sexuality, Science and Spirituality, Health and Wellness and Nourishment and Nutrition with classes such as Opening Vulnerability, Women in Music Industry, Make Love like a Goddess, Healing Hugs, Rhythm Drum Circle, Clearing Relationship Karma, Next Level Nut Milks, a Cacao Ceremony and much, much more.

With spellbinding sensations emanating throughout the grounds, festival attendees had a deep appreciation for the historical location they were blessed to encounter and enjoy. The history at Black Oak Ranch dates back to 1987 when Wavy Gravy asked Jerry Garcia to help settle an overdue mortgage by staging a concert at French’s camp in Piercy, CA. Garcia agreed and then enlisted Bill Graham to produce the event and thus “Electric on the Eel” was born. The venue has further played host to the adored Earthdance Global Dance Party for Peace and Kate Wolf Music Festival, making Black Oak Ranch’s deep community history a desired and idyllic home for any modern music festival.

The unparalleled feel-good vibes that echoed through the the 6th annual Enchanted Forest Gathering were felt by all who attended. While the festival may be intimate in size, it’s big in heart, production value, and opportunities for personal growth. Opening its arms to lovers of music, healthy and holistic living, conscious movement, performance art, nature, multi-generational community and self-actualization, the festival stayed true to its mission and balanced the “sacred, sexy, silly and saucy” elements of life.

Wonderfruit Festival, Thailand's pioneering globally conscious, cross-cultural live celebration of art, music and life, has revealed what is in store for Wonderers in The Fields this year from February 16-19.

Built on six unique pillars, Wonderfruit is more than a festival, but rather a journey that begins the moment you enter The Fields at Siam Country Club. This year, the site will be transformed into an experiential playground packed with 60+ music acts from all over the globe, 20+ stunning art installations and dazzling theatrical performances, 55 exquisite gastronomic delights, 30+ engaging talks & workshops, 35+ wellness & adventures offerings, plus plenty of interactive activities for the whole family - all intertwined to create an immersive experience for Wonderers.

Since its inception, Wonderfruit has always thrived to bring a diverse, genre-bending lineup of live performers that span the musical spectrum, and this year is no exception with numerous musical acts from around the world. The Living Stage will be home to diverse mainstage acts like Rudimental, famous for their energetic live drum-and-bass performances, and Young Fathers, a hip-hop trio from Scotland, to the likes of Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra with their mesmerizing blend of live orchestral and electronic music, Shura, famous for her new wave synthesized sounds and soothing vocals, and Grammy nominated singer, Lianne La Havas.

Those not ready to call it a night will most likely end up at The Quarry, Wonderfruit’s legendary after party destination. Get ready to dance till you drop to genre-defying sounds by Simian Mobile Disco and the distinctive tunes of European electronica by Yaya; or brace yourselves for some heavy hitting techno by Nicole Moudaber and a dark, hardware-only live set from Headless Horseman.

Those who just woke up or haven’t slept yet, can climb up the Solar Stage, the highest point of The Fields, to catch unforgettable sunrise scenes. Built by Gregg Fleishman, who’s known for his creations at Burning Man, the Solar Stage will host the performances from Eric Volta, Sabo, YokoO and sunrise yoga with Liv Lo and Rosemary, while sunset performances will include Wolf + Lamb, Norman Jay MBE, KMLN, Marc Antona, Akimbo and more.

The Farm Stage, another must-see this year with a build made primarily out of harvested rice to celebrate Thailand's rich farming culture, will host acts like Buke and Gase, Superglasses Ska Ensemble, Yena, Sahai Hang Sailom, Srirajah Rockers, At Adau, Nang Talung Sakon Dharma and more.

Wonderers are also in for a treat as Forbidden Fruit hosts Wonderfruit’s first ever LGBT party on Friday night. “Adam and Steve” will feature Thailand's premier drag queen, the inimitable Pangina Heals, who’ll delight revelers with her “waacking” performance, outrageous entertainment and plenty of surprises. The appropriately fabulous venue will also be the setting for irresistible music from Luna City Express, Noxro and Uone throughout Wonderfruit.

The Rainforest Pavilion is where Scratch Talks will take place during the day. Get inspired by the talks from Trash Hero Thailand, the man behind Indonesian unicorn app GO-JEK and more. At night, the Pavilion will delight Wonderers with some techno beats from Agent H, Alex Joy, Cabbit, Zig Zach, Fadi, Gary Hutchings, Halim Ardie, small&Tall Soundsystem featuring Swamy and David Brabbins and others.

Delicious cuisine is another integral element of the Wonderfruit experience and the choices are plentiful. Grab European fare from Marcel, Thyme and Peppina and sushi from Morimoto - some of Bangkok’s hottest restaurants, or indulge in your favourite street food and keep breakfast going all day long at Rocketfruit.

Wonder Feasts, are also back, offering a luxurious communal outdoor dining experience where food and entertainment are in ample supply, and wine flows freely, courtesy of Italasia. Returning for the second time in two years, maestro of progressive Indian cuisine, Gaggan Anand is throwing a feast with the help of his friend Chef Daniel Chavez of Ola in Singapore. Expect fire-grilled barbecue delights, Peruvian ceviche and other delicacies. Wonderers with a taste for the fare from acclaimed Bangkok restaurants Appia and Soul Food Mahanakorn should join chefs Paolo Vitaletti and Jarrett Wrisley as the duo teams up for a reggae brunch.

If you are feeling hungry during the day, let Chef Jeriko of Cocotte serve you a mouth-watering farm-to-table banquet of dishes from fresh, organic and seasonal products. Those who are looking for something out of the ordinary should check out F.A.C.T. Collective’s feast, where chefs Khanaporn “Oom” Janjirdsak and Panupon "Black" Bulsuwan will serve unique dishes that combine the flavours of northern and southern Thai cuisines. (Note: Seat capacity for all Wonder Feasts is limited. More information on pre-booking will be available soon).

Additionally, Wonderers can expect a range of experiences that encourage exploration, creativity and collaboration thanks to SC Asset, who is bringing The Sharing Neighbourhood back to The Fields, including a new treat for this year - Breakfast for Good Mornings - a truly Thai-style start to the day at Wonderfruit. The Molam Bus Project by Jim Thompson Art Center is also back by popular demand and will offer Wonderers a chance to experience the authentic culture of Thailand’s north-eastern region Isaan, including music, courtesy of All Thidsa and Pimjai Pechpralanchai. Don’t forget to check out the Wonder Salon by TAT for a Wonderfruit “makeover," relax in The Ziggurat, an upcycled-design beer garden by Singha, or get cozy inside Moon Shack by Sangsom.

Apart from talks & workshops, Wonderfruit is also a place where you can strengthen your body and mind through a range of wellness & adventure activities. Shed some sweat and try belly dance, body combat and Zumba with the team from GuavaFruit, a collaboration of Wonderfruit and GuavaPass; practice different styles of yoga with international experts, and take part in meditation, healing and dance sessions. If you come as a family, stop by Camp Wonder, which will be jam-packed with fun activities to keep the whole family busy.

As well as sustainable, Wonderfruit is also big on technology and safety. The event is completely cashless and all Wonderers will receive an RFID wristband, making paying easier and eliminating the need to worry about the safety of your wallet. The wristbands, courtesy of Bangkok Bank, can be topped up at stations around the festival.

Bountiful basslines and tantalizing drops will echo throughout the picturesque Rocky Mountains of Golden, BC as the 18th annual Motion Notion Festival takes over this summer, August 24th-28th, 2017. Having already unveiled an impressive Phase I lineup, the masterminds behind Motion Notion have dreamt up a visionary Phase II, showcasing the elite of rising talent from Western North America to compliment headliners Datsik, Avalon, Dirtyphonics, Koan Sound, The M Machine and Minnesota alongside a diverse mix of international legends and underground acts -- totaling over 100!

For phase 2, Motion Notion is going deep with “Deep House’ favorites like Ben Annand. A resident DJ at Tropical and Moontribe in Los Angeles, Ben Annand can throw down on vinyl, CDJs, or both as he utilizes an incredibly aggressive and energetic mixing style with dreamy, atmospheric and deep beats. Recent years have cemented Freddy J as one of Canada's "must see" dj's and he’s sure to throw down a funky, whompy, groovy, crunky bass set. Having played Motion Notion many times over the years, Freddy J is a MoNo fan favorite. WMNSTUDIES has quickly risen to international recognition with his Nu-Disco, tropical storm of deep grooves and high energy DJ sets, leaving every person on the dance floor wanting more.

Winner of PLAY Motion Notion Alex Mei will make her festival debut, having beat out over 58 other worthy competitors in the recent contest held in conjunction with Do 604. Judge and Label Manager at Westwood Recordings, Jordan Hutchinson expands on his reasoning for choosing Mei as top winner, saying, “Super fresh style and quick transitions kept us grooving to the gritty, bass heavy sounds of Alex Mei from start to finish!” With so many amazing sets submitted, Motion Notion went one step further and made an offer to the 1st runner up: Vancouver legendary house duo Average Gypsy.

Entering its 18th season, under the direction of Motion Notion visionary Kevin Harper, the festival features 3 stunning festival-run stages including an all new beachfront stage, plus welcomes independant festival stage creators Turtle Island, Broken Motion and Flociety, who will be hosting their own interactive stages throughout the weekend. Encouraging attendees to become a part of the growing festival, Motion Notion invites both professional fire dancers, contortionists, hypnotists, magicians, aerialists, yogis and amateur flow artists alike to join the party.

Beyond the stellar musical additions, there are many features of the Motion Notion camping experience that set it apart from any other camping festival around. The Rocky Mountain location gives campers the chance to experience a location that is unparalleled in the world for clarity and depth. Camping alongside the Beaverfoot river offers plenty of late night stargazing and the chance to unplug and unwind. Getting lost amongst the pine trees will invigorate the spirit and the incredible nighttime sky will sooth the soul. Bordering the beautiful Yoho National Park, the mountainous backdrop becomes a work of art in any photo taken on site.

For the ultimate glamping experience attendees can add on a Luxury Tent Package. Amenities include a canvas tent in quiet camping, deluxe queen mattress and bedding for two, lighting and furniture included and set up inside the tent. Also included are: 6 shower passes, 2 Posh Potty passes, and a MoNo Swag pack.

Celebrating roots in Northern California’s Mendocino County, CannaCraft and the Enchanted Forest Gathering embrace the region’s heritage as the birthplace of Prop 215, the revolutionary piece of legislation that legalized the cultivation and sale of cannabis and cannabis products for use as medicine in California in 1996. Since that time, CannaCraft has become a worldwide leader in medical cannabis products; creating the popular brands AbsoluteXtracts, Care By Design, and Satori Chocolates, all the while, continuing to focus on patient wellness, education, and consultation and now bringing this movement to Enchanted Forest Gathering for a sublime weekend.

EFG’s Emerald Forest is the latest element in a masterpiece collection of offerings at this year’s festival, where attendees will also be able to witness the only California and Oregon performance by godfather of glitch and bass music, Tipper, one of two appearances on the West Coast in 2017.
