John Langenstein, Director of Security for several bands including Phish, CSN, and The String Cheese Incident, has teamed up once again with David Shulman and The Mimi Fishman Foundation to raise money for The Station Family Fund. Grateful Web has been thrilled to host their auctions for the past four years.

The Station Family Fund is an all-volunteer, 501 c 3 recognized, tax exempt, nonprofit organization, founded to offer assistance and relief to people directly affected by the fire at The Station nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island.  100 people perished, close to 200 severely injured, and more than 60 children lost one or both parents in the horrific fire on Feb 20, 2003.

Todd King, a survivor himself of the fire, is the VP of the Station Family Fund. "It's vital we don't forget the families left behind.  The Station Family Fund was formed to help those families, as well as the survivors", said King.  "David (Shulman) and John (Langenstein) have been instrumental in helping fund our organization."

The auction, which began December 13, is the fourth in a series of Langenstein/Shulman on-line auctions, with the first three raising over $40,000. Unlike the first three auctions, which included a variety of items from many different bands, this auction will only feature Phish related items.  Phish, after 21 years together, recently called it quits, as their last note of music was played August 15 at their own festival in northern Vermont.

The eighteen auction items are sure to be of interest to any Phish fan.  Included are the  actual guitar strings used by Phish in 2004, one of their wardrobe cases used all the way up to their last show in August, as well as a full Conventry festival ticket signed by the entire band.

"When Shulman and I ran our first auction for the SFF, I never dreamed there would be more.  I thought it was a one-time shot.  My desire to help those affected by the fire has only strengthened and I am more determined now than ever to help out the survivors and the families of the victims", said Langenstein.

The Station Family Fund will distribute every dollar raised by the auction in an effort to address the needs of the survivors and the families of victims.

"We have put together an amazing array of Phish items for this auction.  Any Phish fan will definitely want to take a look.   Most importantly, we are raising funds for a very important charity", says Shulman.

Mimi Fishman Auction  - The Grateful Web is honored to power the Mimi Fishman auction for more than 5 years!

This time around former Phish drummer Jon Fishman has reached deep into his past to donate many artifacts sure to be of interest to Phish fans.  The charity auction features various pieces of Fishman's drum kits used on tours as well as studio recordings – some dating back to the mid to late 80's.  This impressive list of items includes Jon's first kick drum which was used during the recording of "Junta" as well as early tour dates, his complete road practice kit, as well as many other gems from his equipment while with Phish.  Fishman signed all the items he donated.

This auction is one of special importance to Fishman.  "Since Phish broke up I've finally gotten around to going through all the piles of drum equipment I've accumulated over the years and setting aside the items I no longer need or will ever use again.  There have been a lot of opinions about what I should do with them one way or another, but it's always been clear to me the best thing I could do would be to auction it off through my mother's foundation to help raise money for those she would have been happy to support", says Fishman.

In addition, the auction features a unique item donated by Phish bassist Mike Gordon and his mother Marjorie Minkin (with funds donated to the Triangle Arts Foundation), items signed by Phish, laminates from Phish festivals/tours, as well as other rarities.

The Station Family Fund will distribute every dollar raised by the auction in an effort to address the needs of the survivors and the families of victims. "John (Langenstein) has certainly put together a wonderful lineup of rare and unique items", says David Shulman, Executive Director of the MFF. "There is sure to be something of interest for fans of all music types. Our hope is that in addition to raising needed funds, we will also be helping to get the word out that there are children who lost either one or both parents, and need whatever help we can provide them. It's been four years now since the fire, however help is needed now as much as ever."

The auction include items donated by a wide spectrum of artists including Phish, String Cheese Incident, Roger Waters, moe., BB King, Bon Jovi, Ben Harper, Widespread Panic, Trey Anastasio, Fallout Boy, The Disco Biscuits, and many others. "We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received, both from those donating items as well as those bidding on them. Working in the music industry, this tragedy hit me right in the heart. My desire to help those affected by the fire has only strengthened, and I am more determined now than ever to help out the survivors and the families of the victims", said Langenstein. The auction can be viewed until March 12th.

Truly a collectors item. This is what Jon Fishman says about the head. This head was on the Eames 20" kick drum for a long time, but by the time it was put on the Eames kit it was retired from the stage. The head was then incorporated into my rehearsal kit. From 1990-1993 or so on stage I used a front head with a white trimmed hole in the middle and small Phish logos side by side above the hole. After that got a crack in it. I believe we mocked up this one (on the auction) with a neater tape job and the stickers on top and bottom, but we decided to stick with the side by side sticker look. This head remained on the practice kit as a backup kick drum in case the one on stage needed to be replaced quickly.
