On April 29th 2022, Jane Lee Hooker self-released their long-awaited new studio album Rollin’ via Symphonic Distribution; eight songs that perfectly showcase the band’s signature blend of rock ‘n’ roll, blues, punk, R&B and soul. Three tracks from the new collection were released last year as singles and videos: “Jericho,” “Drive”
and “All Good Things.” The songs received glowing reviews from fans and press around the world, and found their way onto some influential radio stations, including WDST FM – Radio Woodstock. The tracks also secured radio play on Rock and Blues specialty shows across the US, UK, Europe and Australia – including Triple J.

Rollin’ was written and recorded during the pandemic, which resulted in Jane Lee  Hooker trying out new methods of songwriting and recording. With COVID-19  restrictions and social distancing requirements in effect in NYC, the band found  themselves locked out of their Brooklyn rehearsal room - the creative space where  they write and rehearse with amps cranked up at maximum volume. Says singer  Dana Athens, “Aside from Jericho and Lucky, which were written before 2020, the  rest of the songs on Rollin' were primarily written on acoustic instruments in my  backyard while social distancing underneath the grapevines my Greek grandparents  planted in 1968. We had this oasis to gather and make music and pass the time the  pandemic had afforded us.” She continues, “ …we recorded this record very  differently than we have done with our other albums. Beginning with focusing on  drums at one studio, then tracking vocals, guitars, and other things at two other  locations. This process was very different from our "plug-and-play' attitude of yore.”

The result of that process is an album filled with musical diversity, while still staying  true to the band’s hallmark combination of twin lead guitars, a heavy rhythm section  and soul-scorching vocals. There are straightforward blues-rockers including first  single “Jericho,” album opener “Lucky” and the CD-Only bonus cover of Johnny  Winters’ “Mean Town Blues;” but those are balanced out by the soul-pop of “Drive,”  back-porch acoustic blues of “White Gold,” the soul & gospel-tinged “Weary Bones” and feel-good rock ‘n’ roll of “All Good Things.” Rollin’ was produced by Matt  Chiaravalle (Joe Bonamassa, Warren Zevon, Courtney Love) and mastered by  Grammy winner Emily Lazar (David Bowie, ColdPlay, Foo Fighters, John Mayer,  Beck, the Killers, Garbage, Sonic, Youth, Linkin Park, Sia).

Jane Lee Hooker exploded out of New York City in 2015, and won instant acclaim in  the US and abroad with their debut album of revved-up blues covers No B! The band was signed to legendary German blues/rock label Ruf Records, and returned in  2017 with a set of originals titled Spiritus. The five members of Jane Lee Hooker have decades of playing experience, punching the clock in bands including Nashville Pussy, Bad Wizard, Helldorado, Lez Zeppelin, punk rockers The Wives (managed by CBGB’s owner Hilly Kristal) and Plasmatics offshoot New Hope.

Jane Lee Hooker toured extensively behind No B! and Spiritus, and played to packed houses across the U.S. and Europe, including Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria and the Czech Republic. The band returned to Europe in May/June of 2022 for a run of dates in Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Denmark and Belgium. Jane Lee Hooker has shared stages with acts including Train, Sturgill Simpson, Samantha Fish, the Allman Betts Band, Jenny Lewis, Umphrey’s McGee and Portugal. The Man.

In a world full of manufactured bands, and live shows backed up by hard-drives, Jane Lee Hooker play rock ‘n’ roll the way it’s meant to be played – loud and with passion. JLH’s fiery live performances have made them a must-see live act – you can find all the latest show and touring information on janeleehooker.com.

Highway 61 is a Los Angeles-based blues-rock ‘n’ roll band whose debut album was recorded  30 years after the band broke up.  And it only took a worldwide pandemic, a near-fatal bout  with Leukemia, and the death of their mentor to make it happen…

Highway 61 began in the early ‘90s and tore it up on the Southern California club circuit  alongside bands like B.B. Chung King & the Screaming Buddaheads, Marc Ford’s Burning  Tree, and The Havalinas, yet they never managed to get that elusive major label record deal.  “We were young and committed to constantly rehearsing, writing, promoting, and playing  stellar shows,” recalls drummer Knutson. “…but eventually we got burnt out, the scene  changed, and we split up.”

After the band’s breakup, singer/guitarist Frank Meyer went on to form award-winning  punk outfit The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs and play alongside Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Famer James  Williamson (Iggy and the Stooges), rock legends Cherie Currie (The Runaways), Wayne  Kramer (MC5), Sylvain Sylvain (New York Dolls), Eddie Spaghetti (Supersuckers), heavy metal  hero Thor, and many more.  But the blues came a-callin’ once again, and in summer 2022  Meyer reunited with the original Highway 61 members to record a 10-song album  called Driving South to be released in April 2023.

“Thirty years is a long time, and during that time the music we created still resonated in  me,” admits bass player Loeffler.  “While continuing to write and play music, I always  wondered what the others were doing.  We spent an enormous amount of time together,  rehearsing, writing, traveling for shows, and becoming a family.  When Frank called me  about finishing what we started, I didn’t hesitate.”

Despite Highway 61 calling it quits in 1993, the guys stayed friends and occasionally  collaborated, but it took an unfortunate event to reunite the band.  In 2020, as the  pandemic hit, guitar player Medway was diagnosed with Leukemia.  After a year of

chemotherapy, Medway had a bone marrow transplant, which required more than a year of  recovery and isolation that was followed by a series of complications and setbacks.

“Frank was great about staying in touch with me during my recovery and encouraging me to  play music even when I didn’t know if I would ever be able to play again,” admits Medway.  “Music truly is the great healer.”

Inspired by the challenge, Medway started firing off ideas.  Soon he and Meyer had written  several songs, including the Driving South track “Black Magic,” which led to the reunion  with Knutson and Loeffler.

In summer 2022, the foursome reconvened for the first time in decades at Kitten Robot  Studios in Los Angeles with producer Paul Roessler (The Screamers, 45 Grave, Nina Hagen)  to make Driving South, which mixes doses of The Rolling Stones and Tom Petty with dashes  of The Black Crowes and Stevie Ray Vaughan.  The band ripped through the entire album  over a few weeks, finally tracking fan favorites like “Baby, Where’s You Stay Last Night” and  “Supernatural Monkey Child,” alongside brand new song “Black Magic.”

Driving South also salutes Highway 61 mentor Alan Mirikitani, a.k.a. blues guitar master BB  Chung King, who sadly passed away in 2015. “Walk on Water” and “Breath Away” feature  unreleased solos Mirikitani recorded with the band in 1992.  In an incredibly emotional  reunion, “Walk on Water” also features Mirikitani’s daughter Alana Mirikitani on backing  vocals joining the two artists on an album for the first time.

“Alan was a huge influence on the band,” says Meyer.  “We played tons of gigs together and  he taught us everything from stage presence to amp settings to lead guitar techniques.  We  are thrilled to be able to bring the sound of his guitar back and reunite him with his  daughter through our music.”

To bring things full circle, former Buddahead and friend of the band Kellie Rucker  contributes smoking blues harp and backing vocals on “Bad Day.”

Since reuniting, Highway 61 has issued several tracks from the vaults on Bandcamp including  Loaded Live, an EP that captures the band live-in-studio circa 1992.  With live dates already  booked, Highway 61 will be playing gigs, making music videos, and doing press throughout  2023 to promote the release of Driving South.

New York City Blues-Rockers Jane Lee Hooker are releasing a new single and video for the track White Gold – taken from their Rollin’ album. The clip, directed by  Rob Carter, will world premiere on Wednesday night, May 3rd in the US (Thursday  morning, May 4th in Australia) exclusively through the therockpit.net website and  social media. The White Gold video will be available on digital video platforms  world-wide on Friday, May 5th via Symphonic Distribution – and the clip has already  been added to VEVO’s Acoustic Rock playlist.

The acoustic-based White Gold harkens back to the Blues roots of the band. Jane  Lee Hooker guitarist Tina Gorin, who is featured on steel guitar on the song, says of  the track: “I always knew we had a song like this in us. It doesn’t even feel like a  departure for us to me. We always had roots in our music and this shows our purer  side of that.” The track is the fifth single & video to be released from last year’s  Rollin’ album, following Jericho, Drive, All Good Things and Lucky. New York Music  Daily called Rollin’ “(Jane Lee Hooker’s) strongest release yet,” and the album received glowing reviews from both fans and the press around the globe.

Jane Lee Hooker will be returning to the stages of Europe on June 1st when they  begin a 6 week tour at Spirit of 66 in Verviers, Belgium. The band play dates in  Germany, Slovakia and France before wrapping up with 11 shows in Spain – marking the first time JLH has played shows in the country. Jane Lee Hooker is  booked exclusively in Europe by Teenage Head Music. Of the upcoming European  tour, JLH vocalist Dana Athens excitedly states “I’m really looking forward to kicking  off our tour at the familiar and wonderful Spirit of ‘66 in Verviers, Belgium, and so  excited to visit places we’ve never played before like España!
