Brooklyn-based band Escaper are set to release their debut album, Skeleton Key, on May 12, 2017 via Ropeadope Records. The definition of the word “Escaper” is “one who escapes confinement,” an iconic testament for the group’s players who thrive in an open-ended musical environment, described by Live For Live Music as “…danceable spacey jams.”

“The term ‘jam’ can be a loaded one, but the idea of having some concrete ideas yet still allowing the music to be open and flowing to take advantage of the moment is really important to us,” says Will Hanza, guitarist and bandleader of Escaper. Innovators of the scene, Escaper use improvisation as a tool for exploring new musical ground, a technique only experienced players can confidently navigate. Skeleton Key was tracked live, harnessing the raw energy experienced during the band's performances, with all the audio technical advantages brought about by a studio. The record was co-produced and engineered by John Davis whose previous credits include Lettuce, Brad Mehldau and The Black Keys.

Escaper is comprised of guitarist Hanza, drummer Andrew Nesbitt, bassist Jay Giacomazzo, keyboardist Adam Ahuja and saxophonist Johnny Butler. The members are all experienced musicians, previously playing with groups like Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, The Breakneck Boys, and even Beyonce. Band members have played everywhere from Bonnaroo, Mountain Jam and Catskill Chill to Brooklyn Bowl and The Blue Note Jazz Club. As Escaper, they have shared stages with notable acts such as Aqueous, Jimkata, G-Nome Project and label mates, The Flowdown.

Praised by Music Fest News as an, “up-and-coming juggernaut,” Escaper’s Skeleton Key is the start of an exciting journey and music fans won’t want to miss what’s next.
