Toubab Krewe Summer Tour!

Toubab Krewe will hit the road this summer for a tour in support of their new album, Live at the Orange Peel, released nationwide on April 7 on Upstream Records/ADA. The tour kicks-off this week at the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh and includes performances at some of the biggest and best festivals in the U.S., including Bonnaroo (June 11-14) and ROTHBURY (July 2-5).

toubabThis year will mark Toubab Krewe’s third performance at Bonnaroo, their first since 2006 (Video of that performance is online). Video of this year’s performance will be streamed at www.music.att.net (June 12; 12:30-1:30 P.M. EST).

Toubab Krewe will also headline two nights at the Festivus for the Restivus (July 17-19), an annual festival thrown by Toubab Krewe bassist Dave Pransky on his family’s farm in Cabot, VT. Other performers at Festivus include Malian superstar Oumou Sangare, Midnite, Barrington Levy and Black Sheep.

Joining Toubab Krewe at Festivus and at select summer tour dates will be legendary Jamaican guitarist Earl “China” Smith. Perhaps the most sought after lead guitarist in reggae, Smith has performed and recorded with everyone from Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh and Burning Spear to more recent pop icons like Lauren Hill, Erykah Badu and Joss Stone. Toubab Krewe recently joined Smith at his home studio in Kingston, where they collaborated on several as-yet unreleased recordings. On his first tour of the U.S. with Toubab Krewe, Smith will join the band on-stage for what are sure to be special collaborations, infusing his diverse talents and influences into Toubab Krewe’s already unique blend of styles.

About Live at the Orange Peel:

Toubab Krewe’s new album has won wide acclaim since its release in April. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winning producer Steven Heller, Live at the Orange Peel captures the band’s outstanding 2007-2008 New Year's run. All of the songs are previously unreleased and continue to mix American rock with the West African musical traditions the band fell in love with on their travels. Along the way, they explore the worlds of surf and zydeco, fusing it all together into what the Village Voice describes as "a futuristic, psychedelic, neo-griot frenzy" and Honest Tune hails as "one of the most innovative voices in music today." The new album features collaborations with legendary spoken word artist Umar Bin Hassan of The Last Poets and fiddler Rayna Gellert of Uncle Earl.

Red Rocks Burns in the Bisco Inferno

Festival season started early this year.  Well, early for Colorado.  Last Saturday The Disco Biscuits and a cavalcade of friends and like-minded musicians brought the ruckus to Red Rocks Amphitheater for an all-night non-stop mini-festival of epic proportions.  If that sounds like an overstatement, perhaps it is.  Although technically not a festival – the word is honestly a little big for what went down – being outside and seeing no fewer than seven bands

Mile High Music Festival Unveils Another Round of Artists

Colorado's Mile High Music Festival, happening at the Fields at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on July 18 and 19, unveils yet another round of 2009 performers.

Hail No - Del Yeah!

Bisco Inferno to light up the Rocks this weekend!

Spring is in the air, and its time to get outside.  The outdoor music scene is just starting to kick in to high gear. If you’re anything like me, your calendar is filling up fast with festival dates, bar-b-ques, and all manner of fun-in-the-sun distractions. You’ve already called in sick to about half the summer work hours, and now you’re praying you don’t run into the boss down at the park this afternoon.
