It may seem as if the 40^th anniversary of The Band’s Last Waltz has been going on forever, with various combinations of musicians paying homage to that seminal 1976 concert in a variety of ways.

Blackbird Presents is proud to announce the addition of Bob Margolin, Dave Malone, Ivan Neville, and Mark Mullins to the first leg of “The Last Waltz 40 Tour: A Celebration of the 40^th Anniversary of The Last Waltz” kicking off on January 21, 2017 at the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida with tour dates running through February 2017 across multiple US cities.

Of all the many approaching Bay Area rock anniversaries, few can rival The Last Waltz of November 25, 1976.  Between the evening itself – the SF Opera’s set from La Traviata, the incredible range of guests, and The Band itself -- and Martin Scorsese’s epic film, it was simply one of the great music history moments ever.  This Thanksgiving will mark the 40^th anniversary...

On August 1, 1973 The Band opened for Grateful Dead on Jerry Garcia’s 31st birthday, making for one of the most memorable nights in American rock & roll history. On Friday, August 1 of this year, forty-one years later, Dark Star Orchestra and The Band tribute act, The Weight will be recreating this entire show for “A Very Jerry Birthday Jam” at Heritage Amphitheater at Pocahontas State Park.

On Wednesday, November 27 at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, a star-studded lineup of musicians will pay tribute to The Last Waltz, the historic concert and legendary film by The Band.

Today the music world suffered a bittersweet loss. Levon Helm’s battle with cancer ended this afternoon after a long tough fight. A message was posted on his website written by his wife Sandy and his daughter Amy requesting everyone’s “love and prayers” earlier in the week. Levon has been battling with throat cancer since 1998. Levon Helm was the beloved  drummer and vocalist for The Band.

When Polytoxic and the Denver Horns come together every year to perform the Last Waltz Revisited, they remind us of the difference between going to a show and going to a SHOW.  Everything was in place- a food drive to support a local charity, a brilliant parade of local talent, non-stop entertainment, and an energy that danced through the ears of everyone nearby.
