Mark Knopfler

Mark Knopfler’s voice never sounded young. The Dire Straits frontman was in his late twenties when the timeless hit “Sultans of Swing” took over the airwaves in England and the U.S. in 1978. It was easy then to imagine the singer was himself a member of the storied bar band of which he sang; a time-tested musical soul-blowing Dixie double four time in a local dive bar decade after decade.

Mark Knopfler’s new single “Watch Me Gone” debuts today on his own British Grove label via Blue Note/EMI—listen here. It is the second song to be taken from his eagerly awaited tenth solo studio album, One Deep River, which is set for release on April 12—pre-save/pre-order the LP here.

Today, the D’Addario Foundation has launched a new initiative called the Immersive Music Challenge, which aims to raise awareness and funds around a groundbreaking new study that finds intensive music mentoring, especially implemented in lower-income schools, is linked to significantly improved reading and math scores; decreased pandemic related anxiety was also observed.

Gibson, the iconic American-made instrument brand, and Gibson Gives--its philanthropic arm--are bringing the music community together to stand behind the Ukraine Relief effort, raising awareness and funds to aid the people of Ukraine.

Mark Knopfler – The Studio Albums 2009-2018, a 9 LP vinyl/6 CD boxset & digital SD/HD, will be released on October 7 by UMe/EMI, gathering together the second half of his solo songbook with his more recent studio albums, to add to last year’s ’96 – 2007 collection.

Street Singer Productions has announced their latest film, John Monteleone: The Chisels Are Calling. The feature-length documentary film — directed by Trevor Laurence and produced by Laurence and Woody Mann — is a profile of John Monteleone, one of the world’s greatest guitar builders and a living artist on permanent exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

At one point during his two-plus hour concert on a pristine evening, the last day of summer, Mark Knopfler took some time to banter with the sold-out audience at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. “I love playing here. I’ve played here many times. I have often thought about retiring in recent years,” the 70-year-old former lead guitarist and vocalist of Dire Straits shared with the Los Angeles crowd.
