PHO

So far 2017 has been a year of leaps and bounds for Minneapolis's funk bringers, PHO.  They kicked off the year with a short run with The Motet, spent Mardi Gras opening up for the Eric Krasno Band, played a packed hometown show at the Triple Rock on Prince's Memorial Day, performed a successful run of shows in Colorado, and released their highly anticipated sophomore album, two, with it debuting at #10 on the Relix/Jamband Radio Charts.

With their sophomore release two, the rising PHO use funk as a vehicle to explore their “Minneapolis sound” influences with torch in hand. Intimate and soulful, intense and highly energetic, the new album comes sprinkled with psychedelia and hip-hop, while maintaining the tight arrangements of funk tradition. The thirteen tracks, which were produced by John Davis, feature Kirk Johnson of Prince’s New Power Generation on percussion.

Fresh off the release of their funky new single “Still Waiting,” the seven-piece Minneapolis funk band PHO is proud to announce their first-ever run of shows in Colorado, planned for June 2017.

The inevitable result of a talent-soaked soul and jazz community, The Funky Knuckles are taking the sound of Dallas to an entirely different level. They have been together six years and have held a weekly residency since the beginning. The band is comprised of sidemen from some of the most respected acts in the music industry (Beyonce, Erykah Badu, Chrisette Michelle, Talib Kweli, P. Diddy, The Polyphonic Spree, etc.), yet possesses a sound distinctly separate from any of their individual projects.

Minneapolis-based PHO is comprised of Arthur “LA” Buckner (drummer), Spencer Christensen (guitarist), Joe Paris (guitar), Luke Ibach (bass), Aaron Levin (tenor sax/flute), Lukas Skrove (trumpet/flugel horn) and Patrick Horigan (keyboardist). Don’t let the fact that these cats look young-enough-to-get-carded fool you; they are a bonafide funk machine plus.
