Start talking about festivals that cater only to the almighty funk genre and watch your list quickly shrink. A brief internet search would lead me to believe there are very few such festivals. My friends, I am proud to report back from the very first Phunkberry Music Festival.

What’s in a name? For a band, a lot. A band’s name often gives a descriptor to their image, something that can vaguely sum up what the band is all about. The Beach Boys wrote songs about being on the beach. The Allman Brothers were a band made up of brothers named Allman. Aerosmith...I’ll get back to you on that. But my point remains. Band names are like the tagline to their music. It’s what people see first and remember the most.

We’re about an hour away from kicking off the music here on the second day of the tenth annual Wakarusa Music Festival at Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Ark.After a rough first day of shows getting rained out and mud EVERYWHERE, I have high hopes that things will start to dry out at least by the time we leave Monday. Right now it’s pretty overcast, but I haven’t seen any rain yet.

Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band are heading back on the road this summer with dates across the US. The funkadelic 5-piece, featuring smokin’ horns, a keytar slinging babe-a-licious brunette, and old school funk rhythms, will be bringing high-energy, dance-driven party music to a street party, club, or festival near you. The band will be making stops throughout their home state of North Carolina, the Rocky Mountains, and the Northeast in anticipation of a fall album release.

On December 31, 2012, The Mantras along with Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, rang in 2013 in fine fashion at Greensboro, North Carolina's Blind Tiger.  On this leg of the tour, the Mantras and Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band are alternating the headlining role from night to night.
