Guitarist, bandleader, and composer Steve Kimock already had an impressively diverse backdrop of music before co-founding KIMOCK, taking a notion from a creative apex following his previous album, the deeply personal and experimental Last Danger of Frost. The veteran multi-genre improvisor admitted in an interview with Grateful Web that he wanted to explore a side his musical self that was lesser seen onstage. His potently cascading compositions have always taken focus, each song is a journey, and the payoff is blissful yet unpredictable.

On October 13th, Round Records will release a special reissue of Jerry Garcia Band’s classic album Cats Under The Stars. In celebration of the 40th anniversary since the album’s recording, two vinyl configurations will be released - a limited edition pressing of 5,000 marbled gold 180gram vinyl with individually numbered foil-stamped packaging and a 180gram black vinyl.

Grateful Web recently spoke with Deborah Grabien of The Sound Field. Their new album The Bucket List is an astounding collaborative effort between stalwart Bay Area rockers and a trio that’s been performing for a decade. Deborah opened up about the inspiration behind her reuniting with songs from decades past and how songwriting and strong musicality brought art back into the album.

Bob Minkin is as big of a Deadhead as they come. When he discovered the Grateful Dead amongst other revolutionary rock bands hailing from the San Francisco Bay, it changed his life forever. By the time he made the Bay Area his home, he’d been photographing rock icons for decades. He was welcomed in the Grateful Dead’s inner circles in the mid-1970s and captured the iconic band in its true element.

Of the living legendary Jazz musicians of the 20^th century, few perform with such purpose and poise as Mahavishnu John McLaughlin. As the groundbreaking Jazz-fusion originating guitarist has put it in two separate interviews with Grateful Web, it’s all out of love. In the last decade, one the North Bay Area and wine country’s premier venues has become Weill Hall at Sonoma State University. Housed in the Green Music Center, this indoor/outdoor hybrid venue space is one of a kind. The theater has stunning wooden seats and a double-tiered balcony, while the outdoor lawn seating is ideal for year long daytime and nighttime shows. Despite its sizeable capacity, it feels homey and intimate with projector screens displaying multi-shot coverage of the stage up-close.

Boris Garcia has got quite the tenure on the road, touring for over eight years with five albums to date. Their newest release, Around Some Corner, offers their finest material to date. Guitarist, singer, and songwriter Bob Stirner sat down with Grateful Web to talk about the new album and other exciting endeavors.

GW: Tell me about your formational years as a musician. Who were some influential musicians or acts to you?

It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since the gargantuan Grateful Dead: Fare Thee Well five-show run in Santa Clara, California, and Chicago, Illinois. The surviving core four members of Grateful Dead were joined by Bruce Hornsby, Trey Anastasio and Jeff Chimenti for stadium shows that gathered tens of millions in profit and more importantly enduring memories for fans and the band.

Grateful Web recently had the chance to speak with keyboardist and producer Chad Staehly. He’s a member of the rock’n’roll roots group Hard Working Americans. Featuring some of the most established talents in American music including vocalist/guitarist Todd Snider, guitarists Neal Casal and Jesse Aycock, bassist Dave Schools, and drummer Duane Trucks, the band which began as a group project has grown into their own after four years of touring and recording.

It’s bewildering how many devoted fans are out there of late guitar and American music icon Jerry Garcia that never saw him play a single show. Yet they know all about the live music of Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band. They can explore the evolutions and changes in form, structure, and exploration.
