Terry Klein Releases Hill Country Folk Music Nov 7

Acclaimed Austin songwriter Terry Klein will release his fifth studio album, Hill Country Folk Music, on November 7. The collection marks his third collaboration with Nashville producer Thomm Jutz and features eleven songs recorded in just four days at Jutz’s TJTunes Studio.

The album’s second single, “Try,” is out now on all streaming platforms, following lead single “I Used to Be Cool.” Hard copies are shipping to radio and media this week, and Klein is available for interviews.

“At some point I realized it’s my job to put songs out into the world,” says Klein. “I don’t record until I have ten songs I truly love. Hill Country Folk Music came together when I looked at the songs I still play live—some new, some long-loved—and realized they fit together like chapters of the same story.”

About Hill Country Folk Music

Recorded August 4–6 in Nashville, the album was tracked live with longtime collaborators Thomm Jutz (guitar, harmony vocals), Lynn Williams (drums), and Tim Marks (bass). Guest musicians include Mike Compton (mandolin), Scotty Sanders (pedal steel), Justin Moses (fiddle & dobro), and Finn Goodwin-Bain (piano & organ).

Standout tracks include:

  • “Try” – A vow to “do better” inspired by life’s simple beauty.
  • “I Used to Be Cool” – A groove-filled ode to Austin and lost youth.
  • “If You Go” – A tender exploration of loss and suicide awareness.
  • “Hopelessness Is Going Around” – A portrait of a veteran grappling with change.
  • “My Next Birthday” – A heartfelt reflection on mortality.

“By the time I heard the final mixes, I had the odd feeling that this might be my best record,” Klein shares. “It feels cohesive, with a trajectory through different sounds and emotions.”
