East Nash Grass exemplifies everything that makes bluegrass thrive in the modern era—heart, humor, and a whole lot of chops. As the 2024 IBMA New Artist of the Year, the Nashville-based band continues to redefine the genre with breathtaking musicianship and a playful spirit that breaks the mold while honoring tradition.
Far from chasing nostalgia, East Nash Grass thrives on authenticity. This powerhouse ensemble of award-winning players has performed with legends including Dan Tyminski, Tim O’Brien, Sierra Hull, and Rhonda Vincent. Their roots in the classic bluegrass sound run deep—but it’s their irreverent, adventurous energy that sets them apart. Forged during a seven-year weekly residency at a dive bar just outside Nashville, they transformed a humble room into a hub for next-generation bluegrass.
Through hundreds of sets, late-night jams, and lineup evolutions, the band has emerged as a hair-raising live act featuring Harry Clark (mandolin), Cory Walker (banjo), James Kee (guitar), Maddie Denton (fiddle), and Jeff Partin (bass/dobro). Their performances are part virtuosic precision, part wild abandon—proof that bluegrass is as alive and unpredictable as ever.
Their new album, All God’s Children (Mountain Fever Records, 2025), captures this duality: reverence for tradition fused with the thrill of creative risk. It’s music that’s both familiar and daring—a reminder that the spirit of bluegrass lives in those willing to push its boundaries.
