Clay Street Unit Set to Release their Debut Album ‘Sin & Squalor’

Hailing from the heart of the Rockies, celebrated roots sextet Clay Street Unit announces the February 13th release of their long-awaited debut album Sin & Squalor, via their new label home, Leo33. Produced by Chris Pandolfi of the innovative Grammy-winning group The Infamous Stringdusters, Sin & Squalor captures the spirit of the West, the folk and country traditions of the South, and the verve of modern Americana.

Clay Street Unit has just released their new single “Rollin’.” “This song is about the stages of moving on,” says lead singer and songwriter Sam Walker. “It’s about being alone and having to face the past and the reality that it takes time to move on. I remember writing a bunch of different versions of this particular song trying to express how I felt after going through a pretty tough break up and for a while it just wasn’t really clicking. Then one night I sat down and the whole song kind of came to me in one sitting which doesn’t usually happen. It’s a reflection of how I felt looking back from the other side of a relationship and realizing you can’t really control anything the other person does and that life goes on.” Listen to “Rollin’” HERE.

Formed in Denver in 2021, the group’s 2022 debut EP, A Mighty Fine Evening, introduced their genre-blending sound as Clay Street Unit worked tirelessly to galvanize their live performances. The band played around the Denver and Colorado music scenes before hitting the road from coast to coast, which garnered a passionate community of fans who helped spread word about their incendiary live shows.

From vivid storytelling to exceptional musicianship, Sin & Squalor is the sound of a band hitting its stride. The balance between joy and hardship and sin and salvation lie at the heart of their songwriting. The title sets the tone for a collection of songs that celebrate life in all its grit and grace. Where Have You Gone” is a high-octane burst of acoustic fire while “Drive” captures the introspective feelings of a touring musician longing for home. Choctaw County” (featuring Lindsay Lou) is a pensive reflection on lost love and the passage of time. The endearing “Let’s Get Stoned” finds levity and love in the simple things, all sung in Walker’s warm and weathered voice.

Clay Street Unit is Sam Walker (lead vocals/guitar), Scottie Bolin (mandolin/vocals), Jack Cline (banjo), Brad Larrison (pedal steel), Brendan Lamb (drums) Jack Kotarba (bass). With band members originating in Montgomery, AL, Charlottesville, VA, Atlanta, GA, Philadelphia, PA, Denver, CO and Washington DC, their diverse backgrounds and influences come together to shape their signature style. A style that is fresh yet timeless and fully realized on Sin & Squalor.
