Tony Trischka New Release and Video “Lost John” featuring The SteelDrivers
Down The Road Records has released a new single from banjo legend Tony Trischka, featuring Grammy-winning bluegrass powerhouse The SteelDrivers. Their collaborative take on the traditional tune “Lost John” brings a rugged, soulful edge to the folk classic, driven by Trischka’s inventive banjo work and the SteelDrivers’ trademark grit.

Throughout his six-decade career, Tony Trischka has blended innovation with deep musical tradition. For “Lost John,” he revisits a song recorded over the years by Lonnie Donegan, John Lennon, and Doc and Merle Watson, giving it new urgency and character. The SteelDrivers—Matt Dame (lead vocals, guitar), Tammy Rogers (fiddle, vocals), Mike Fleming (bass, vocals), and Brent Truitt (mandolin)—bring raw power and emotional weight to the arrangement.
“Matt Dame’s vocal is a tour de force with an urgency, propelling the song forward,” says Trischka. “Tammy Rogers’ sinewy fiddling, doubled and otherwise, is a perfect complement.” Their combined performance offers a grounded, unhurried reading that honors the tune’s lineage while pushing it forward.
The SteelDrivers co-produced the track with Trischka and Lawson White. “Lost John” is available now on all streaming platforms.
