Turnpike Troubadours are paying powerful tribute to their friend and hero Todd Snider with a new cover of his fan-favorite song, “Just Like Old Times,” released in honor of his life, legacy, and singular storytelling voice. Produced by longtime collaborator Shooter Jennings, the track arrives as the band closes a landmark year and looks ahead to an even bigger run on their Wild America Tour.

Turnpike Troubadours debut a new cover of Todd Snider’s song, “Just Like Old Times,” today in honor of Snider’s life and legacy. Listen to the song, produced by Shooter Jennings, HERE and watch the video HERE.

Of the release, lead singer Evan Felker shares:

“This song, to me, was really eye-opening when I heard it. When that record came out, it’s the first song I remember hearing that described characters that well with that little information. I learned a lot from it. I didn’t know you could even do that.

Todd was larger than life. And you sort of think he’ll be around forever, but unfortunately that’s not the way the world works. The guy was just in a league of his own as a storyteller. Sometimes it was in the song, sometimes it was in the monologue, and then he’d play the song, which was like the extra punch after he’d finished some great story setting it all up. An old school prize fighter setting up the knockout blow. I don’t know that there’s ever been, or ever will be, anyone better at that than him.

I forget how much, especially in the early days, we tried to learn from him. To be like him. Everything from talking on stage to writing a song. He wrote all kinds of songs. Every genre of music there was. He wrote funny songs. He wrote some of the saddest songs I’ve ever heard. Deeply personal stuff. Random observations, and he made that into art. He was always like a cat playing with a mouse with everybody else. One of the few people where you always felt like he knew something you didn’t. Had something up his sleeve. He preached the idea of being a lifer. He had this quote where he was like, ‘I don’t even know how to log into my bank account.’ We took that to heart.

A barefoot hippie in an old truck, driving around East Nashville. He built a community. East Nashville was Todd Snider to us. The first time we ever went to Nashville, we wanted to go to East Nashville. We wanted to see where Todd Snider hung out. He built the legend. Music Row, Broadway, that’s cool for the tourist. But we wanted to see East Nashville. Todd Snider’s Nashville. I’m glad we got to know it.”

The band will continue their “Wild America Tour” through next summer including stops at New York’s The Rooftop at Pier 17, Fort Worth’s Billy Bob’s (two nights), Philadelphia’s The Met Philadelphia, Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway, Boise’s Extra Mile Arena and more. The band will also once again join forces with Cross Canadian Ragweed for three more “The Boys From Oklahoma” co-headline shows next year at Stillwater, OK’s Boone Pickens Stadium, Lincoln, NE’s Memorial Stadium and Athens, GA’s Akins Ford Arena. See below for complete tour itinerary.

The upcoming tour adds to a historic year for Turnpike Troubadours, who released their surprise album, The Price of Admission, this past spring via Bossier City Records/Thirty Tigers (stream/purchase here). Produced by Shooter Jennings, the record debuted at #1 on the iTunes all-genre and country charts, the Billboard Digital Albums and Current Digital Albums Sales charts and further cements the band as an undeniable musical force.

Released to widespread acclaim, Rolling Stone praises, “with Red Dirt as a genre enjoying its greatest popularity…The Price of Admission serves as a reminder that Turnpike is still the genre’s torchbearer,” while Spin calls them “a leading force in the gritty, authentic ‘Red Dirt’ country genre” and Whiskey Riff declares, “Turnpike Troubadours have continued to prove time and time again that they are the greatest band of all time.”

Turnpike Troubadours has amassed a massive following throughout their career with more than 2.2 billion streams globally and over 1.7 million equivalent units sold to date. Furthermore, the band was recently inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, appeared in the penultimate episode of Yellowstone performing three songs (“Good Lord Lorrie,” “Brought Me” and “Pay No Rent”) and has become a recurring presence in Paramount’s show Landman, with eight of their songs featured to date.

Since their 2005 debut, Turnpike Troubadours has released six studio albums including 2023’s A Cat in the Rain, which was released to overwhelming acclaim. The Associated Press praised, “they’ve returned with the kind of ferocity that feels destined to put them right back on that long-term upward trajectory…The earnestness is palpable,” while Spin proclaimed, “the Oklahoma group is better than ever…one of the most beloved groups in country and roots music.” Originally from Tahlequah, OK, Turnpike Troubadours is Evan Felker (vocals, guitar), Kyle Nix (fiddle), Ryan Engleman (electric guitar), RC Edwards (bass), Gabe Pearson (drums) and Hank Early (steel, accordion).
