Dark Star Orchestra Welcomes Michael Kennedy for Upcoming Florida Shows as Rob Eaton Continues His Recovery
Following yesterday’s heartfelt message from Rob Eaton regarding his health and temporary withdrawal from the stage, Dark Star Orchestra has shared an important update: Michael Kennedy of Splintered Sunlight will join the band for their four-show Florida run this week.
Eaton, who recently revealed he was hospitalized with acute cardio peritonitis, is taking the necessary time off the road to rest and protect his long-term health. In his public statement, he emphasized, “At the end of the day health is the most important thing,” adding that he already feels the positive impact of listening to his body. While he remains hopeful about returning soon, the band is committed to giving him the time he needs to fully heal.
In true community spirit, Kennedy steps in not as a replacement but as a trusted ally—someone who understands the music, the lineage, and the responsibility of helping carry it forward. Fans of Splintered Sunlight know Kennedy’s deep rhythmic sensibility and his long-standing connection to Grateful Dead tradition, making him a natural fit for this brief stretch of shows.
Kennedy will join Dark Star Orchestra at the following dates:
• December 3 — St. Augustine Amphitheatre, St. Augustine, FL
• December 4 — The BayCare Sound, Clearwater, FL
• December 5 & 6 — The FTL War Memorial Auditorium, Fort Lauderdale, FL
The band expressed gratitude to their fans for the understanding, compassion, and patience shown during this unexpected moment. Above all, they remain united in support of Rob Eaton and look forward to the day he returns to the stage, rested, healthy, and ready to share the music we all love so much.
For now, the torch is in good hands, and the music plays on—powered by community, care, and the enduring spirit of the Dead family.
