Goose returned to Amica Mutual Pavilion on Saturday night to close their sold-out Goosemas XII, bringing their two-night, narrative-driven holiday event to a confident and musically focused conclusion. Night two of Barnaby Glimpse’s Show Upon Time leaned into precision, breadth, and collaborative firepower, allowing the performances to resolve the weekend’s expansive concept.

Unveiled in the weeks leading up to Goosemas via a short-form video teasing wayward travelers, mysterious purple goo, and an otherworldly guide named Barnaby Glimpse, Show Upon Time framed the weekend as a surreal journey through the dark-carnival world of Lovering’s Hollow. Weaving together theatrical staging, character-driven moments, and left-field cover debuts, Saturday’s show used musical execution, extended improvisation, and more surprises to bring the weekend to a close.

Thematically, set one commenced where night one left off, as the band, still dressed in centuries-old carnival garb, emerged with a debut of the traditional ballad “Wild Mountain Thyme,” featuring the Providence College Choir Sirens. The multi-part vocal arrangement expanded the band’s sonic palette, setting a measured tone that added a unique glow to the subsequent tune “Give It Time.” From there, Goose shifted gears with a punchy pairing of “Flodown” and a fast-tempo “Echo of a Rose,” the latter unfolding several daring improvisational passages. The set’s momentum continued with “Into the Myst,” pushing the room into a steady four-on-the-floor groove, followed by a first-time cover of Brian Eno and David Byrne’s “Strange Overtones.” A nod to longtime fans arrived in the form of “Wysteria Lane,” bassist Trevor Weekz’s early Goose composition, before “Dawn” closed the frame with a soaring, unhurried peak.

Set two saw the stage decorations transition to a Fun House theme, as the band debuted a cover of The Band’s “Life Is A Carnival,” featuring Stuart Bogie (saxophone), Dave Nelson (trombone), and Andrew McGovern (trumpet). The horn section remained onstage for a sprawling “Thatch,” adding texture and dynamic control as the band navigated extended improvisational terrain. “Big Modern!” followed, its sleek, blues-forward swagger grounding the set. A fan-favorite “Hot Tea” provided the night’s most elastic segment, stretching into a funk-driven jam highlighted by assertive horn leads before giving way to a brief psytrance-inspired interlude from DJ Marb Menthols (Trevor Weekz) on turntables. Goose quickly re-centered with a seismic “Factory Fiction,” closing the set with focused intensity.

The encore revisited the weekend’s theatrical motif before culminating in “The Empress Of Organos.” Joined once more by horns and choir, Goose delivered a grand, layered finale that brought Goosemas XII to a definitive close.
