Amp Melo has returned with a new single that hits as hard emotionally as it does rhythmically. Teaming up with Chubby Wallets, the Santa Cruz–based funk-fusion artist has released “Better Man,” an upbeat, groove-driven track that pairs infectious modern funk with a message rooted in growth, self-awareness, and accountability.
Powered by elastic bass lines, crisp rhythms, and Amp Melo’s signature talkbox vocals, “Better Man” moves effortlessly between the dance floor and deeper introspection. Beneath the song’s bright exterior lies an honest reflection on shedding immature habits and distancing oneself from behaviors that no longer serve a purpose. It’s a song about leveling up—emotionally, creatively, and personally—without sacrificing momentum or joy.
Rather than preaching, “Better Man” delivers its message with warmth and confidence, inviting listeners to move while considering the work it takes to evolve. The result is a track that feels empowering and relatable, balancing honesty with forward motion and a polished funk edge.
Amp Melo continues to carve out his own lane as a funk-fusion hip-hop artist, blending sharp lyricism with soulful R&B melodies and classic funk sensibilities. Drawing influence from artists like The Roots, Mos Def, Rick James, Aloe Blacc, Tuxedo, and Atmosphere, his sound bridges underground hip-hop roots with a modern, genre-fluid approach.
Known for his high-energy live performances, Amp Melo brings a dynamic presence to the stage, combining crowd engagement, powerful rap delivery, and expressive singing. Backed by a DJ, funk bass, and the distinctive texture of jazz flute, his shows emphasize feel and groove while keeping the spotlight firmly on performance.
Since rebranding under the Amp Melo name in 2024, he has steadily built momentum throughout the Bay Area and beyond, earning opening slots for artists including GZA (Wu-Tang Clan), The Pharcyde, Talib Kweli, Marlon Craft, Shwayze, Collie Buddz, and The Expendables. His recent album, Off The Bench, further showcases his growth as a songwriter and collaborator, featuring appearances from Wrekonize of ¡MAYDAY! and The Grouch of Living Legends.
With “Better Man,” Amp Melo continues that trajectory—delivering music that’s as reflective as it is infectious, and proving that personal evolution can still come with a heavy groove.
