The musicians of Sages & Spirits are united by their profound passion for the music of the Grateful Dead and the Jerry Garcia Band, bringing decades of experience, deep musical intuition, and improvisational mastery to every performance. Each member contributes a unique voice to the ensemble — from melodic phrasing and vocal harmonies to dynamic rhythm and exploratory grooves — creating a sound that is both faithful to the original spirit and vibrant with new energy.
The band features Melvin Seals, legendary keyboardist of the Jerry Garcia Band and leader of Melvin Seals & JGB; John Kadlecik, former guitarist of Furthur and founding member of Dark Star Orchestra, now performing alongside Melvin Seals in JGB; Jay Lane, powerhouse drummer for RatDog, Furthur, Primus, and Dead & Company; Rob Eaton, Grammy Award-winning engineer, producer, and guitarist with Dark Star Orchestra; Skip Vangelas, bassist and vocalist, the latest standout addition to Dark Star Orchestra; and Jake Wolf, drummer, vocalist, elected community leader, and educator.
