Dwight + Nicole Announce New Album Day or Night Out March 20

Burlington, Vermont-based duo Dwight + Nicole are set to release their new album Day or Night on March 20, 2026, via WestWalk Records, continuing their genre-blurring journey through blues, soul, R&B, and beyond.

Tracing their musical roots through classic American traditions while exploring the spaces between them, Dwight + Nicole connect those influences with elements of dream pop and alternative rock. Dwight Ritscher’s warm, soulful tenor anchors the sound, while Nicole Nelson’s remarkable four-octave vocal range—recognized by a national audience during season three of NBC’s The Voice—continues to define the duo’s dynamic presence.

While Day or Night is unmistakably a Dwight + Nicole record, it also introduces a distinct ’80s and ’90s influence not found on their previous releases, reinforcing the idea that timeless music can live comfortably in any era.

“I found the process of creating Day or Night to be about looking inward—reflecting my inner and not outer world,” Nelson explains. “It was a deeply healing process creating this music. We always head into recording sessions with a bunch of songs and song ideas in hand. Often, we run out of time before we can finish everything we set out to record. Other times, we have finished recordings that don’t fit with the album we’ve built. Day or Night is the product of whittling down a collection of 163 compositions, demos, and studio recordings.”

The resulting 12-song collection reflects the full breadth of Dwight + Nicole’s musical influences and includes two standout cover songs: their reimaginings of Yaz’s “Only You” and Jenny Lewis’ “Melt Your Heart.”

Ritscher and Nelson once again teamed up with producer Joel Hamilton—who also helmed their 2024 release The Jaguar, The Raven, and The Snake—at Studio G in Brooklyn. Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer Adam Ayan handled both the mastering of new material and remastering of select tracks from previous sessions that ultimately found a home on Day or Night.

Two singles arrived ahead of the album’s release. “Only You,” released December 9, 2025, offered a fresh take on the Yaz classic, transformed into a guitar-driven arrangement with a dream-pop atmosphere. “We had never thought of recording a synth-pop song until our manager, Dennis Wygmans, played us the Yaz classic ‘Only You,’” Ritscher explains. “We worked out the tune on guitar in a different key than the original and crafted a different ending. It has a real dream-pop vibe.”

The title track “Day or Night,” released February 3, 2026, followed with a unique origin story. “It started out as three different song ideas that slowly combined into a single tune,” Nelson says. “I lent the background vocals to support the chorus melody and interpreted Dwight’s mumbled place-holder lyrics into the phrase ‘day or night.’”

Joining Ritscher (vocals, bass, guitar, keyboards) and Nelson (vocals, bass) in the studio were bandmates Leon Campos (keyboards) and Ezra Oklan (drums), along with additional contributions from Jon Solo (keyboards), Ali McGuirk (vocals), legendary bassist Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu), and Sean Hayes (The National Reserve).

Dwight + Nicole’s story stretches back years before this release. Ritscher began performing as a child alongside his grandfather and later formed bands during his college years in Burlington before relocating to Boston. Nelson, meanwhile, developed her voice through musical theater, violin, and jazz performance, eventually earning recognition as a standout vocalist in the Boston scene. Their shared love of soul and blues legends like The Staple Singers, Albert King, and Etta James brought them together, eventually forming the duo that would grow into a full band with Campos and Oklan after relocating to Vermont.

Over the years, Dwight + Nicole have toured extensively across North America, sharing stages with artists including Mavis Staples, Melissa Etheridge, and Norah Jones, while also building a reputation as captivating headliners in their own right. Their live shows are widely regarded as immersive and emotionally resonant, with fans drawn to the palpable chemistry between band members.

The group has earned numerous accolades, including “Band of the Year,” “Vocalist of the Year,” and “Best Blues/R&B Band” at the Boston Music Awards, as well as “Video of the Year” at the Independent Music Awards and multiple Daysies Awards from Vermont’s Seven Days.

Following a creatively grounding 2025, 2026 will see Dwight + Nicole returning to the stage throughout New England and New York. The band will celebrate the release of Day or Night with a special album release show on March 20, 2026, at Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vermont.

Fans of Leon Bridges, Alabama Shakes, Bahamas, Jenny Lewis, Tom Waits, and Yaz will find plenty to love in Day or Night, a record that captures both the depth of Dwight + Nicole’s musical journey and the continued evolution of their sound.
