Featuring the next generation of Deadhead musicians, including Spencer Krenz and members of Broken Compass Bluegrass and Deadset805, plus many special guests. Come out and support the future keepers of the flame—300 years!
Just across the Golden Gate Bridge, Sweetwater Music Hall continues to serve as one of the Bay Area’s most intimate and spiritually aligned rooms for live music—especially for those tuned into the Grateful Dead continuum. This spring, the historic Mill Valley venue leans deep into that lineage, hosting a series of shows that celebrate the improvisational, communal spirit that has long defined the scene.
From next-generation Dead jams to seasoned torchbearers of the Garcia songbook, Sweetwater’s calendar is packed with nights that feel less like concerts and more like gatherings of the tribe.
It begins on April 8 with the Next-Gen Dead Jam, featuring Spencer Krenz alongside members of Broken Compass Bluegrass and Deadset805, plus special guests—an open-ended celebration of the music that continues to evolve in younger hands. Later in the month, Jerry’s Middle Finger rolls through on April 17 (already sold out), bringing their high-energy take on the Jerry Garcia Band catalog to a room that knows every note by heart.
The 4/20 tradition is alive and well in Mill Valley, with The High Green Chilly Winds hosting “A Night of Revelry and Pranks” on April 20, channeling that playful, cosmic edge that has always lived at the center of Dead culture. And on April 28, pianist Holly Bowling returns with her deeply expressive interpretations of Grateful Dead and Phish material—transforming familiar jams into something entirely new and introspective.
Even beyond the explicitly Dead-centric shows, the spirit runs through the room. Moonalice brings their Gathering of the Tribe to Sweetwater on April 19 and again May 3, continuing their long-standing connection to the extended Dead family. Meanwhile, legends like George Porter Jr. and rising stars like Molly Tuttle help round out a lineup that reflects both heritage and forward motion.
Established in 1972, Sweetwater Music Hall operates today as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization dedicated to cultivating creativity, nurturing talent, and making the arts accessible to all. With doors opening one hour before showtime and a room designed for connection, it remains one of Northern California’s most cherished listening spaces.
