As spring settles into the Bay Area, the UC Theatre in Berkeley is dialing in a strong run of reggae shows that bring together island rhythms, soulful vocals, and globally influenced sounds. With four standout performances spanning April through June, the historic venue continues to showcase both rising voices and established names in the reggae world.

Berkeley, CA — The UC Theatre presents four upcoming spring shows for reggae lovers.

UC Theatre in Berkeley, CA has four major reggae shows on its extensive calendar.

The first is on Thursday, April 9 with FIA – “The Love Me” Tour. Five-time Island Music Award winner FIA is taking over Berkeley on April 9. He uses his music to amplify his Samoan roots and his deep-rooted love for R&B, soul, and reggae. The rising star swept the 2019 Island Music Awards, winning all four of his nominations, and helped cement his name in the Island Reggae community.

Next up, on Friday, April 24, is Sammy Johnson. Somewhere between the charisma of Frank Sinatra, the empathetic tone of Bob Marley, and the smooth, sultry vocal runs of Lauryn Hill lives the warm and kind voice of Sammy Johnson. An Australian native, Sammy Johnson embraces his Maori and Polynesian roots to create positive and uplifting music. Blending island reggae, soul, and jazz vibes with heartfelt lyrics, Sammy’s sound is exhilarating and intoxicating.

Then on Sunday, May 10, PROTOJE – “Reggae Invasion” comes to town. Protoje is the name that reverberates at the core of Jamaica’s musical renaissance. A visionary and an architect of sound, Protoje has redefined what it means to be a modern artist, blending the rich heritage of reggae with the fresh influence of hip-hop, soul, and jazz. From his roots in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica, Protoje’s journey is one marked by passion, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to his craft.

J-BOOG will take the stage on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. J-Boog was born and raised on the West Coast and heavily influenced by his Polynesian upbringing. He is one of the top reggae artists in recent years. Mentored by island reggae icon Fiji, he honed his craft early on, blending reggae with soulful melodies and a distinctive vocal style.

A chance encounter with Yami Bolo and Gramps Morgan led him to Jamaica, where he worked in the historic studios of Bob Marley, Don Corleon, Bobby Digital, Shaggy, and Sugar Minott—an experience that deepened his connection to reggae’s rich history and the islands’ culture.
