Renowned improvisational rock band Spafford has announced the release of their highly anticipated new studio album, “Cat Shop,” arriving June 19, 2026. The album marks a bold new chapter for the band, blending their signature exploratory sound with a refined studio-driven approach that highlights songwriting, texture, and sonic depth.
The first glimpse into Cat Shop comes with the release of the lead single “Sweet” on this Friday, May 8. "Sweet" was written by singer/songwriter Gary Ukura and showcases the band’s evolving musical direction, balancing groove, melody, and emotional resonance.
"It really is a beautiful song. Gary is an amazing musician and singer - it is an honor to record this song for him," said guitarist/lead singer, Brian Moss.
Mixed and mastered by longtime collaborator Isaac Civitello, Cat Shop delivers a polished yet dynamic listening experience, capturing the essence of Spafford’s improvisational roots while embracing a more focused studio identity. The album’s visual aesthetic is brought to life through original art, layout, and design by Kelley Wills, complementing the record’s creative vision. You can pre-save the album here on Spotify.
Known for their electrifying live performances and deep improvisational catalog, Spafford has steadily built a reputation as one of the most innovative acts in the modern jam scene. With Cat Shop, the band channels that same adventurous spirit into a cohesive studio project that explores new sonic territory while staying true to their roots.
The album follows a series of successful live releases and extensive touring, further solidifying Spafford’s standing as a band equally comfortable on stage and in the studio.
Spafford is taking a break after Spring and headed back out to the Midwest in June to start Summer Tour. For more information on Spafford’s upcoming tour dates, or to listen to Spafford's live shows, visit www.spafford.net, Spafford's YouTube page, or your Nugs.net account.
