Today, Utopia releases the official trailer for the feature documentary film Summer Tour, which will arrive on July 23 and previously premiered in 2025 at Telluride Film Festival. Summer Tour is Mischa Richter’s love letter to the timelessness of the Grateful Dead community—one of the oldest and longest enduring fandoms in popular culture—of all ages. Producers of the film include lifelong Deadheads Chloë Sevigny, Emily Mortimer, Alessandro Nivola and others.

The film features Jeremiah Pierce, lead singer of the Grateful Dead tribute band Mason’s Children. The band will perform a string of dates tied to special early screenings of the film, including NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl on June 4.
The film follows Jeremiah Pierce, lead singer of Grateful Dead tribute band Mason's Children, and his partner Annie, who followed Dead & Company for years and earned money busking and selling clothes “on the lot.” The trailer features Mason's Children's cover of traditional blues song “I Know You Rider,” made famous decades later by both The Byrds and The Grateful Dead. The band, presented by Rare Dead, will perform live at upcoming special screenings of the film, including Brooklyn Bowl in New York on June 4. Tickets for early screenings are on sale now, with additional showings to be announced.
Summer Tour represents an up-close, road-tested portrait of the healing nature of music and community. It captures the enduring magic of the Deadhead community through journeys of multiple generations of fans following Dead & Company on the band’s final tour in 2023. Through Richter’s lens, the Deadheads—an often misunderstood subculture—are portrayed with reverence and respect, revealing a complex, self-aware group defined by kindness on and off the “golden road.” It presents America at its best, showing how Deadheads welcome all generations, classes, and sociopolitical groups.
Mischa Richter says, “The Grateful Dead community has given me so much over the years and it’s such an honor and privilege to be able to make this film about and with this beautiful, fun, kind and truly unique American scene.”
The film’s hand drawn and colored artwork was made by contemporary visual artist David Welker; his iconic posters and album covers for the Grateful Dead, Phish, Pearl Jam, Primus and The Black Keys have built a devoted following among private collectors and indie rock musicians over the last two decades.
