Rising singer-songwriter Ken Pomeroy is sharing her stirring rendition of the modern classic “Look at Miss Ohio” today, from her forthcoming EP Tonight’s News, due later this year via Rounder Records. The Gillian Welch/Dave Rawlings original is reimagined by Pomeroy with an intimate, live-in-the-room feeling that highlights her haunting vocal delivery, emotional restraint, and musicality.
The song sets the personal tone of Tonight’s News, which features a collection of covers that helped shape her artistry and were hand-chosen by Pomeroy. The title of the EP comes from a line in Pomeroy’s own composition, “Bound to Rain,” which is also included on vinyl for the first time. The track was originally featured along with Pomeroy herself in the FX show The Low Down.
Pomeroy herself reflects on the curation and creation of the EP:
“We recorded this EP in one day in Chicago with Tom Schick,” says Pomeroy. “Every song on it has its own little story as to why we chose to add it to the kind of… interesting collection. Each song was performed live with no overdubbing, with all of us sitting in a weird circle. I hope you all enjoy these songs as much as we enjoyed playing them with each other.”
Tonight’s News was produced by Pomeroy’s musical partner Dakota McDaniel and features her touring band — Ramsey Thornton, Coleton Holleyman, and Michael Rose.

About Ken Pomeroy: An Oklahoma native, Pomeroy is already receiving widespread attention and has established herself as “a new voice reviving the age-old Native Americana sound” (Teen Vogue). To date, the 22-year-old has appeared in the hit film Twisters, in which she performed a cover of “Wall of Death,” had her song “Cicadas” featured in the Hulu series Reservation Dogs, and toured alongside Lukas Nelson, Iron & Wine, American Aquarium, John Moreland, and Kaitlin Butts. A skilled guitarist and versatile session musician, she has also contributed to projects by Wilderado, Kyle Nix of Turnpike Troubadours, J.R. Carroll, and more.
