Weir/Wasserman Songbook Celebration at Sweetwater to Benefit Music Heals Int’l and Grateful Guitars

Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley continues its spring and early summer programming with a wide-ranging calendar that includes reggae, jam, Grateful Dead-related events, rock tributes, folk, bluegrass, community showcases, open mic nights, and more.

For fans of Dead-connected and hippie-friendly sounds, the upcoming stretch has plenty to circle on the calendar. Marin Bluegrass Sessions returns Sunday, May 24, with a free monthly open jam from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., followed that evening by reggae legend King Yellowman with DJ Adam Twelve at 8 p.m. Sol Horizon brings a Bob Marley Tribute to the room on Sunday, May 31, while Dark N Stormy delivers a rock and jam night on Friday, June 5.

The reggae and roots calendar continues with Third World on Wednesday, June 10, followed by Israel Vibration & Roots Radics with Reggae Angels on Thursday, June 18. Sweetwater will also host The Samples on Friday, June 12, and Hall Pass on Saturday, June 13.

Deadheads will find several especially notable June dates. On Saturday, June 20, The Anton Collection — featuring renowned drummer Greg Anton with Angeline Saris, Mingo Lewis Jr., Stefanie Coyote, Jay Wilcox, Jake Temple, and Fletcher Neilson — will perform Anton’s catalogue of songs co-written with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. On Sunday, June 21, The Rock and Roll Playhouse presents Music of Grateful Dead for Kids, along with the More Grateful Dads Father’s Day Weekend Bash, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Another major Dead-family highlight arrives Thursday, June 25, with Ten Years After - The Songs Continue, celebrating the songbook of Weir/Wasserman performed on their original instruments with special guests Jackie Greene, Sam Grisman, and Jay Lane. The evening is a fundraiser for Music Heals Int’l and Grateful Guitars.

The broader calendar includes Augustana’s “All the Stars and Boulevards” 20th Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, May 21; Soul Ska on Friday, May 22; Open Mic Night on Tuesday, May 26; two sold-out John Craigie performances of “Help! The Lonely Beatles For Sale” on Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28; and Purple Haze: Tribute to Jimi Hendrix, featuring Ralph Woodson, on Friday, May 29.

June continues with Pacific Edge Voices presenting A Cappella Road Trip with Deke Sharon on Thursday, June 4; Rash: A Tribute to Rush on Saturday, June 6; Shana Morrison & Caledonia on Sunday, June 7; BandWorks on Monday, June 8; Open Mic Night with Matt Jaffe on Tuesday, June 9; and A Communal Experience of Marin Lately, featuring author Patrick Heij, on Thursday, June 11.

Additional listings include the Crossroads Showcase featuring Gate 5 Six, Strawberry Jam, Street Level, and Bubba’s Taxi on Sunday, June 14; Corduroy - The Pearl Jam Experience on Friday, June 19; Josh Zee And Friends’ Sunday residency on June 21; Open Mic Night with Caroline Delone celebrating Austin Delone’s birthday on Tuesday, June 23; Neon Velvet on Friday, June 26; and Summer Studio 54 Night on Saturday, June 27.
