The Highwomen, the acclaimed collaborative movement formed by Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby, share their new live album, Live at The Gorge 2023—available to stream everywhere today. “We weren’t planning on releasing a live album,” shares the group, “But in preparing for our upcoming reunion we recently listened back to The Gorge, and whatever happened out there that night came rushing right back…the adrenaline, the near misses, the harmonies locking in at exactly the right second, and the sound of thousands of people singing like they meant every word with their whole chest. The recordings sound wild, emotional, electric, human and exactly how that night felt…We could really feel the connection, the community and that rare oneness where everybody carried each other for a little while. And maybe that matters right now because when the world feels like it’s coming apart at the seams, music still gives us a place to meet each other in the middle of it all, to sing too loud, cry in public, laugh at dumb shit, hold each other upright, and walk back out into the world feeling a little less alone a little more whole and a little more ready to keep fighting for each other. Just us, the crowd, the canyon, and whatever that feeling was. We sure hope you feel it.”
The album arrives ahead of the group’s highly anticipated reunion performance, as they’re set to headline the final night of Carlile’s “Echoes Through the Canyon” weekend at The Gorge Amphitheatre this Sunday. The group’s first performance together since the 2023 edition of the festival, Sunday’s show will also feature Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Wynonna Judd, and Brittney Spencer. The Highwomen will also join Maren Morris for a special performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre later this summer.
ABOUT THE HIGHWOMEN
The Highwomen is a movement. Formed in 2019 by Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby, the group believes that anyone can be a Highwoman. It’s about rising above the challenges of our time and moving through the world with a belief in the innate and equal worth of all women and girls. Country music is a cornerstone of the American story, and many of its greatest legends are women—Dolly Parton, Tanya Tucker, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, and Miranda Lambert, among them. The Highwomen exist so women in country music can continue to band together, set aside as much ego as humanly possible, support one another, and amplify women at every opportunity.
The acclaimed foursome made their live debut on April 1, 2019, at Loretta Lynn’s 87th Birthday Concert and have since performed at the Newport Folk Festival with Dolly Parton, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Howard Stern Show, and The Kennedy Center Honors.
Their self-titled debut album—which features collaborations with Sheryl Crow and Yola—debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and received widespread critical acclaim, winning Album of the Year at the Americana Music Honors & Awards and Best Country Song (“Crowded Table”) at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.
The group’s most recent live performance took place three years ago at The Gorge Amphitheatre during Carlile’s annual Echoes Through the Canyon weekend, which also featured Joni Mitchell’s first announced headline concert in more than 20 years.
