Silvermouse Announces 30-Minute Sound Experience Psychoactive Nap

Puerto Rico-based experimental duo Silvermouse will release Psychoactive Nap, a 30-minute sound experience designed for meditative rest and the refreshed state that can arrive from non-ordinary sleep, on June 21.

Silvermouse comprises Joanne Hunt, a live electronic producer, and multi-instrumentalist Justin Handley.

Psychoactive Nap sits somewhere between electronica, sound meditation, ambient composition and Silvermouse’s long-running exploration of altered states through music. Beneath the piece is brainwave-entrainment technology using delta audio frequencies, shaped to guide the listener toward a deeply relaxed state that hovers between trance and sleep. Above that foundation, the music unfolds as a time-distorted flute and electronic composition.

The track begins with a roughly seven-minute flute performance woven through Silvermouse’s electronic soundscape. Over the next 23 minutes, that material is stretched, slowed and transformed until it becomes spacious, suspended and almost outside normal time.

“The idea was not to make a sleep track,” says Handley. “It was to make something you could lie down with for half an hour and come back from feeling refreshed. Not like waking up from sleep, but like your brain has been somewhere quiet for a while.”

That distinction matters. Psychoactive Nap is not presented as a medical tool or conventional relaxation recording. It is music built around an altered-state listening experience: part nap, part meditation and part sonic experiment—or, as Hunt describes it, “a sound-induced brain vacation.”

Silvermouse has spent years working at the edges of live electronica, psychedelic folk, improvisation and consciousness-oriented sound. The duo’s earlier psychoactive music work with Monroe Sound Science drew attention from electronic and consciousness-focused outlets, and Psychoactive Nap continues that thread in a more intimate format.

It is a track made for headphones, closed eyes and uninterrupted time.

Psychoactive Nap will be available on all streaming platforms on June 21, the summer solstice.

About Silvermouse

Silvermouse creates a live psychoactive universe through improvised electronica, multiple instruments and subtly consciousness-altering audio using Monroe Institute technology.

Over 18 years, the duo—Jo Hunt on live electronica and Justin Handley on multiple instruments—has built a devoted following through alternative music networks across Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Their sound draws from UK rave, American jam rock and studies under fiddle and jazz masters. Following a history of live album releases, Silvermouse is preparing its first studio album, All of Us, recorded at the duo’s farm in Puerto Rico, alongside The All of Us Experience, an improvised sound journey on the Monroe Institute label.
