Dead Drops Tuesday heads back to Chicago for the final two nights at Rosemont Horizon from Spring ’89.
Night two finds the band shifting into another gear. “Jack Straw,” “Row Jimmy,” and a standout “When I Paint My Masterpiece” lead into a powerful “Let It Grow.” The second set opens with “Touch of Grey” before a Chicago blues tribute unfolds through “Truckin’” > “Smokestack Lightning” > “Spoonful.” A deep “He’s Gone” leads into “Drums” > “Space,” and out comes Brent’s heartfelt “I Will Take You Home” before “All Along the Watchtower” > “Wharf Rat” > “Turn on Your Love Light.” “Black Muddy River” provides a beautiful encore.
The final night keeps the momentum rolling. A rare “Iko Iko” opener, the first “To Lay Me Down” of the tour, and a strong first set the stage. Then comes “Foolish Heart,” a soaring “Eyes of the World,” and a wonderful post-“Space” sequence of “The Wheel” > “I Need a Miracle” > “Dear Mr. Fantasy” > “Hey Jude” > “Goin’ Down the Road Feelin’ Bad” > “Good Lovin’.” “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” closes an outstanding run.
Chicago is in the books. Spring ’89 rolls on.
Curated by David Lemieux and mastered by David Glasser from the original DATs, both shows are now available to stream in Hi-Res.
