Salt Lake City, UT — Local Kin is a six-piece stomp-and-holler folk band out of Salt Lake City — built on big group vocals, driving foot-stomp rhythms, and huge communal choruses. It's the same lane as Mumford & Sons, Caamp, and The Lumineers, played like the room is part of the band.
Ask Velour Live Music Gallery — the Provo venue whose Battle of the Bands launched Imagine Dragons, Neon Trees, and The Backseat Lovers: "Since winning Velour's summer 2023 Battle of the Bands, Local Kin has risen to be one of the leaders of the resurging roots-rock movement in the Utah music scene," the venue wrote — with a note to ticket buyers: "Local Kin shows generally sell out, so get your tickets ASAP." The band has since opened for The National Parks and Sammy Brue, and TIDAL's editors handpicked their single "Elsinore" for the streamer's Spotlight program. A debut album is on the way.
"Local Kin is the definition of stomp-and-holler folk... this band closely resembles early Mumford and Sons while bringing their own unique style."
— Daily Herald
Provo Music Magazine calls it "earthy, down-home folk" — "gravelly and heartfelt" lead vocals over songwriting that "draws heavily on decades of authentic Americana and bluegrass traditions," and live shows that are flat-out "exhilarating."
