Texas-based supergroup Chaparelle has released its newest single, “Two Steps Closer.” The alt-country trio brings together singer-songwriters Zella Day and Jesse Woods with musician and producer Beau Bedford.
Inspired by the tradition of the Texas dance floor, “Two Steps Closer” captures the anticipation of spotting someone across a crowded room and gathering the courage to ask them to dance.
“This song is inspired by the tradition of the Texas dance floor,” Chaparelle says. “Feeling like a Lone Star? Sometimes all it takes is asking one person to dance to change your life.”
Built around the atmosphere of a Texas dance hall, the song blends country storytelling with an easygoing romantic pull. Its narrator watches from the shadows as someone catches the light on the dance floor, with the music amplifying the loneliness and possibility of the moment.
The release continues Chaparelle’s exploration of Texas-rooted sounds through the distinct songwriting and musical backgrounds of Day, Woods and Bedford.
Chaparelle will support Paul Cauthen at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on September 11. The group will also appear at the Boats & Bluegrass Festival in Winona, Minnesota, taking place September 24–26.
