Today, acclaimed San Diego band Slightly Stoopid shares its new single, “Backseat Drivin’,” featuring GRAMMY® and Golden Globe-nominated recording artist Wiz Khalifa alongside longtime friend and collaborator G. Love. One of hip-hop’s most influential artists, Wiz Khalifa has amassed billions of streams worldwide, topped the Billboard 200 and earned global acclaim with era-defining hits.
The track grew from a mutual admiration between the three artists. Slightly Stoopid and Khalifa first connected at Brazil’s Planeta Brasil Festival in 2018 and have championed each other’s music while sharing a well-documented affinity for cannabis culture. Inspired by Khalifa’s music, Slightly Stoopid has frequently closed its live shows with his anthem “Young, Wild & Free,” making “Backseat Drivin’” a full-circle collaboration years in the making.
G. Love, meanwhile, has remained one of the band’s closest creative partners, most recently joining Slightly Stoopid on the 2025 single “Shine For You.”
Radiating carefree, sun-soaked energy, “Backseat Drivin’” is an effortless meeting point between three distinct yet complementary voices. Riding an upbeat, genre-blurring groove, the track blends hip-hop, reggae, rock and funk, pairing Slightly Stoopid’s signature musicianship with Wiz Khalifa’s unmistakable flow and G. Love’s blues-infused style.
The result is an infectious summer anthem that captures the spirit of open roads, good company and living in the moment.

“Backseat Drivin’” follows recent singles “Step Into The Sun,” “The Upside Down” featuring B-Real and Chali 2na, and “Shine For You” featuring G. Love as the latest preview of Slightly Stoopid’s forthcoming 10th studio album.
The project continues a new creative chapter for the band, building on three decades of genre-defying music, artistic independence and a catalog that has earned both critical acclaim and commercial success.
From founding its own Stoopid Records, which released the platinum single “Closer To The Sun” and gold singles “2am” and “Collie Man,” to achieving more than 1 million physical catalog sales to date, Slightly Stoopid has cemented its legacy as one of the most enduring independent bands to emerge from the Southern California scene.
That enduring success extends well beyond the studio. Slightly Stoopid has built a global touring empire, with sold-out headline dates worldwide and appearances at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands and countless other major festivals.
Fresh off recent performances at BottleRock, BeachLife and Point Break festivals, Slightly Stoopid has launched a massive summer touring season. On June 13, the band headlined the inaugural Field of Dreamz Festival at San Diego’s Petco Park, a sold-out hometown celebration featuring Sublime, Stephen Marley, The Elovaters, Pepper and more.
The band’s Road Trippin Summer 2026 tour continues with stops at iconic venues and festivals throughout the season, including Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre on August 7, Red Rocks Amphitheatre on August 8 and Island Rhodes Music Festival on August 15.
