Americana singer-songwriter David Quinn will release his new full-length studio album, Down & Dirty, on August 28.
Recorded at The Duck in Nashville, the album was produced, mixed, and engineered by Jordan Lehning, whose credits include Justin Townes Earle and Aaron Watson. Casey Woods handled mastering.
Quinn is joined on the record by drummer Miles Miller and bassist Kevin Black, both known for their work with Sturgill Simpson, along with guitarist Jamie Davis, who has performed with Margo Price, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Hunter, whose credits range from Willie Nelson to Kacey Musgraves.
Down & Dirty finds Quinn digging deeper into the soul of American roots music, blending the rugged spirit of outlaw country with the raw authenticity of Americana. His worn, expressive voice anchors songs built around deep grooves, memorable melodies, and stories drawn from life both on and off the road.
David Quinn writes the kind of country songs that feel road-worn, lived-in, and rooted in the Midwestern landscape that shaped him. Across his catalog, he blends outlaw country, cosmic twang, roots rock, and storyteller folk into music that feels immediately familiar while remaining distinctly his own.
“For the first time in a long time, I set out to make a record purely for the joy of it,” Quinn says. “I made the album I wanted to hear and the songs I wanted to play. These tracks come from experiences both on and off the road and mean a great deal to me. Most of all, I hope people enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed making them.”
Quinn says Miller and Black were central to establishing the album’s rhythmic foundation.
“Miles Miller and Kevin Black have been one of my favorite rhythm sections for years,” he says. “From the beginning, I wanted the album to have a deep, funky groove throughout, and Miles and Kevin delivered exactly that.”
Quinn also praised his longtime collaborators Davis and Hunter.
“Jamie Davis is someone I’ve collaborated with for years and a guitarist who consistently brings both taste and instinct to every song,” Quinn says. “Sam Hunter is another longtime collaborator whose musicianship elevates everything he touches.”
Quinn’s earlier releases helped build a loyal following one listener at a time. Americana UK called Country Fresh “a classic country album that makes you want to tip your Stetson [and] shout,” while Saving Country Music said that “pound for pound, David Quinn puts out some of the best-sounding country records you can find.”
The Alternate Root heard “an even spread of Country Roots, a rambunctious Rocker and a tender Balladeer,” while Bank Robber Music described Country Fresh as “a love letter to the Midwest with tunes that tell stories of lost love and the open road.”
Earlier records including Letting Go and Wanderin’ Fool further established Quinn as a songwriter drawn to open roads, lost love, hard-earned reflection, and the enduring pull of traditional country music.
American Songwriter described him as “one of today’s finest, most reliable Americana storytellers,” praising his “wood-smoked vocals,” while Saving Country Music highlighted his mastery of the “sweaty, gritty, hard country sound that you crave.”
Quinn’s songs have also appeared on playlists and radio programs including Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist, WMOT Roots Radio sessions, and curated sets on Apple Music and Spotify.
More recently, Glide Magazine described his work as a return to his roots with “a country, rock, blues album reminiscent of The Black Crowes and Blackberry Smoke.” That blend of gritty Americana, melody, and groove carries through Down & Dirty.
The album campaign began July 10 with the release of “Cold Turkey,” followed by “Long Time Gone” on July 24. A third single, “Gravy Train,” arrives August 7 ahead of the full album’s August 28 release.
