Gov’t Mule Announces New Year’s Eve Show in Boston

Gov’t Mule has announced their plans for New Year’s Eve, revealing that the acclaimed GRAMMY-nominated band—led by guitar legend, vocalist, songwriter, and producer Warren Haynes—will be shaking things up and moving their annual celebration to a different Northeast city this year for the first time in 20 years. On Thursday, December 31, Gov’t Mule is bringing A Southern State of Mind to Boston to headline MGM Music Hall at Fenway for a special “Gov’t Mule & Friends” show.

Among the special guests and friends already set to join are Haynes’s former Allman Brothers Band bandmates Jaimoe and Marc Quiñones, ABB alum Chuck Leavell, former members of The Black Crowes Steve Gorman and Audley Freed, Reese Wynans, and Kevn Kinney, with more to be announced.

Gov’t Mule has been bringing their fan community together to ring in the new year with their special themed shows since 2002. After two decades celebrating at NYC’s Beacon Theatre, the party moves to Boston for the first time ever.

“Playing the Beacon Theatre in New York City for New Year’s Eve has been amazing for the past 20 years, but now it’s time to try something new,” shares Haynes. “Boston has always been an amazing audience for us. We’re excited to open a new chapter. It’s gonna be fantastic to have a lot of our friends and special guests there with us blowing it out.”

Fan club presale tickets will be available Tuesday, August 11, and Wednesday, August 12, starting at 12 p.m. ET, with local promoter, venue, and partner presales available Wednesday, August 12, at 12 p.m. ET. The general on-sale commences Friday, August 14, at 12 p.m. ET.

Following a headlining date tonight in Atlantic City, Gov’t Mule will continue their run of co-headlining shows with longtime friend and blues-rock titan Joe Bonamassa this weekend with shows in Baltimore and Youngstown. Their nine dates together, which kicked off July 29, are part of Mule’s Kicking In Your Stall Tour, a monthlong headlining outing that runs through August 23.

After a short break, Haynes and his Mule bandmates will embark on the Dreaming The Same Dream Tour with reggae icon Ziggy Marley. The 16-date co-headlining outing, also featuring a guest DJ set from YOLA, kicks off September 23 in New York City at The Rooftop at Pier 17 and then travels along the eastern seaboard and throughout Texas through October 17. Gov’t Mule released their 12th studio album, Peace…Like A River (Fantasy Records), in 2023 to high praise. Hailed as “perfection” and among the band’s best, the 12-song rock collection—the follow-up to their GRAMMY-nominated blues album, Heavy Load Blues—is highlighted by the singles “Dreaming Out Loud” featuring Ivan Neville and Ruthie Foster, “Same As It Ever Was,” and “Made My Peace,” as well as additional guest appearances from Billy F Gibbons, Billy Bob Thornton, and Celisse. PRESS HERE to listen.

Since releasing Peace…Like A River, Haynes issued his fourth solo album and first solo release in nearly a decade, Million Voices Whisper, in 2024 and then its stripped-down companion album, The Whisper Sessions, in 2025, both via Fantasy Records. Earlier this year, he released an expanded, remixed, and remastered version of his 1993 debut solo studio album, Tales of Ordinary Madness, via Megaforce Records.

Next up, Haynes will release Dreams & Songs: A Symphonic Journey on September 18 via Evil Teen Records in the U.S. and via Provogue/Artone Label Group in Europe. The long-awaited new collection—co-produced by Don Was and Haynes and mixed by Bob Clearmountain—was recorded live in 2019 in Warren’s hometown of Asheville, North Carolina, alongside the 64-piece Asheville Symphony Orchestra and a lineup of seasoned rock ’n’ roll improvisers including Oteil Burbridge on bass, John Medeski on organ and keys, Jeff Sipe on drums, and Greg Osby on saxophone, as well as Edwin McCain and Jasmine Muhammad on background vocals.

Dreams & Songs explores all aspects of Warren’s catalog and 30-plus-year career with music from Gov’t Mule, Allman Brothers Band, The Dead, his solo albums, and more, reimagined with bold new orchestral arrangements. PRESS HERE to pre-save on DSPs.
