Sue Foley Announces Blues Holiday Album Alone (Together)

AUSTIN, Texas — Alone (Together) A Holiday Companion is Sue Foley’s lowdown answer to the season: a late-night collection for anyone who knows the holidays can hold loneliness and connection in the same room. Rooted in Texas blues and touched with laid-back jazz, the album trades glitter and sentimentality for atmosphere, honesty and groove.

The album will be available on CD and vinyl October 30. Its new radio single, “Ride On,” is out now.

This is a blues-forward holiday album for listeners who want warmth without the sugar; intimate, sophisticated and built to return to after the decorations come down. The mood is so dark, you could cut the melancholy with the shard of a broken Christmas ornament.

The record follows Foley’s GRAMMY-nominated One Guitar Woman and brings her electric guitar voice back to the center. Deep blues, lounging rhythms and songs with life beyond December make this a holiday companion in the truest sense: music for the party, the last call and the quiet ride home.

“I made this album for people who find the holidays difficult, especially those who are spending them alone,” Foley explains. “It’s meant to be a companion, to bring a little comfort and connection at a time of year that can be hard for a lot of people. For anyone spending the holidays alone, this is for you.”

In a bold move, the first single is a deep cut from AC/DC. As Foley describes it, “‘Ride On’ is classic Bon Scott-era AC/DC, but at its heart it’s straight-up blues. We wanted to take that raw, blues-rock edge of the original and pull it back toward something more like Jimmy Reed: lowdown, hypnotic and laid-back. It felt completely natural to me. It’s a great blues song.”
