Eamonn Flynn’s band, Dublinesque, is perfectly suited to play the music of Ireland during this crazy time we live in. A multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Flynn played keyboards on the soundtrack to the film The Commitments and also toured extensively with the group.
Eamonn has brought the music of Ireland to San Francisco and now brings it to the world with the release of the album Dublinesque on October 2.
Although Eamonn and his band are likely to pull out half a dozen instruments, it is clearly his love for the piano—which he has played since the age of nine—that brings together the sounds of an Irish pub with traditional Irish melodies and soulful instrumentals and vocals.
Backed by vocalists Darcy Noonan and Felim Egan, Eamonn puts us in touch with stories of Irish ghosts in “Willie O’” and immigrant workers in “Butte, Montana.” He also sings Irish lyrics over a traditional melody and rhythm in “Thugamar Féin An Samhradh Linn,” which translates to “We Brought the Summer with Us.” These tracks are interspersed with instrumentals guaranteed to get you up and dancing a reel—or moving however the music takes you.
The mixture of influences on Dublinesque keeps the music fresh and your toes tapping to the rhythms of fiddle, bodhrán, harmonium, accordion, banjo and guitar, along with heartfelt vocals.
Dublinesque is released by Little Village, a nonprofit record company that promotes diverse music that might not otherwise be heard. Its mission is to foster harmony and understanding among the many cultures of the world.
