Spafford put their improvisational stamp on a Motown classic at Camp Deep End last week, delivering an expansive take on The Temptations’ “The Way You Do the Things You Do” during their performance in Navarro, California.
Clocking in at nearly 24 minutes, Spafford’s rendition transformed the familiar song into an extended improvisational vehicle, stretching well beyond its Motown roots and giving the band room to explore before returning to the recognizable framework of the classic. The performance came early in Spafford’s set, following “Anyone” and “High Beams” and leading into “Motel 6.”

The performance took place during the 10th anniversary edition of Camp Deep End, the boutique music and camping festival held among the redwoods at Camp Navarro. Spafford appeared on the festival’s opening day on September 25.
