Chicago alt-country blues-rockers Joe Rian & The A.M. Drinkers have released their new album, Think Yer In Luv, through Rian Records.
The 10-song album moves through alt-country, blues-rock, rockabilly, folk, jazz and rhythm and blues while telling stories about falling in love, parenthood, road trips, family and the small moments that shape a life.
Rian and engineer Jaime Gartelos recorded Think Yer In Luv in Rian’s garage studio over six sessions. The band focused on capturing strong live performances from its four-piece lineup, with minimal overdubs. Rian and Gartelos produced the album, which was mastered by Gavin Lurssen.
The title track explores the joy and uncertainty of a new romance, while “New Day” reflects on parenthood and family memories. “Amarillo” recounts a wild Southwestern road trip, “Lemonade Stand” was inspired by an outing with Rian’s children, and the acoustic closing song “Someday” was written for his wife.
Rian also created hand-drawn stop-motion videos for “Think Yer In Luv” and “New Day,” spending months drawing, storyboarding, filming and editing the visuals himself.
Rian has shared stages with Mojo Nixon, Jon Langford of The Mekons, The Waco Brothers, Joanna Connor, Joe Stamm Band and Frank Bang. He previously worked at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago, where he absorbed the city’s blues traditions while developing his own blend of roots music and tavern-ready rock and roll.
