San Francisco singer-songwriter Anthony Arya has released his new single “The Dress,” a new chapter in the indie folk-rock sound he has been developing over the past several years.
Blending the influence of Laurel Canyon-era singer-songwriters with a modern indie-pop sensibility, “The Dress” finds Arya looking back on a relationship through an object that has come to represent an entire period of his life.
“The lyrics sit squarely between nostalgia and closure, and that also describes the musical approach,” Arya says. “‘The Dress’ is a synthesis of the indie folk rock sound I’ve been crafting for a few years now. The subject of the song is a piece of clothing but it carries the weight of an entire season of my life.”
He adds, “The production mirrors that emotional tension, it starts delicate, like a memory you're almost afraid to revisit, and then builds into a sweeping release of all the emotion bubbling to the surface.”

“The Dress” previews Arya’s next album, currently scheduled for release in spring 2027. The forthcoming project continues his exploration of personal memory, relationships and life in San Francisco, pairing reflective songwriting with dreamy folk textures and indie-driven grooves.
Arya emerged into the national spotlight before graduating high school with an appearance on NBC’s The Voice and recognition as a Presidential Scholar in the Arts for songwriting.
Now in his early twenties, he has released four albums and become one of Northern California’s most active touring artists, often playing more than 100 shows a year.
His 2018 debut, Going To California, was followed by The Road in 2020, an album inspired in part by Bob Dylan, Jack Kerouac and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
While attending university, Arya released Circles & the Flames in 2022, earning recognition as an International Songwriting Competition finalist, International Acoustic Music Awards finalist, Bluebird Cafe Golden Pick Contest winner and Telluride Blues & Brews Festival Challenge finalist.
In 2024, he released his fourth album, As It Turns Out, which was live-tracked at San Francisco’s historic Hyde Street Studios. The record helped propel Arya through an extensive touring schedule that included more than 150 shows a year at venues and festivals throughout Northern California.
More recently, Arya’s blend of folk, rock and indie pop has gained increased attention online, with his latest songs drawing more than one million views on Instagram. An expanded tour, including international dates, is expected to accompany the release of his forthcoming album next spring.
