The Wheel Workers Release One More Thing To Say

Twenty years can change a band—and what its members hear in the songs they left unfinished. For Houston indie/psych-rock group The Wheel Workers, those unfinished ideas became the foundation of One More Thing To Say, a newly released album combining demos recorded by the original lineup in 2005 with new performances and contemporary production.

The project’s unusual timeline comes into view in the video for “One Must Speak.” Unreleased footage of the band performing in 2004 is intercut with footage of the reunited members playing the same song today. The result brings two versions of The Wheel Workers together across the years, connecting the musicians who first imagined the material with the people returning to finish it.

Mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Steve Christensen, known for his work with Khruangbin, One More Thing To Say revisits the band’s early work through the experience and perspective of its present-day members.

The Houston Chronicle described The Wheel Workers’ sound as “a crafty blend of psychedelia, hard rock and post-punk” that incorporates violin, synths and socio-political themes.

Early coverage has highlighted both the music and the continued relevance of its subject matter. HappyMag praised the title track as “intelligent psych rock,” while Glide Magazine spotlighted “So Wrong,” describing it as “blending garage-rock swagger with indie-rock cool into one infectious, soaring anthem.”

For listeners discovering The Wheel Workers now, the album offers an introduction with an unusually long backstory: songs begun by one incarnation of a band and carried forward by musicians with two more decades of life behind them.
