Florida Man has apparently run out of adventures on land. Los Angeles band Tio sends him searching for the lost city in its new rock opera, Tio Presents: Atlantis—a project the group introduces with this invitation: “Picture SpongeBob having a fever dream on a pirate ship.”
The band points newcomers toward “Florida Man,” where its protagonist sets sail, as the easiest way into the story. From there, the itinerary includes “Barbossa Nova,” described as a pirate singing bossa nova, and “Shells, Pt. 2 (Bulgogi),” which the group calls a “full sea shanty nightmare.” Tio also singles out “Thank You Sprinkler,” warning listeners, “good luck getting it out of your head.”
It’s an unusual premise, delivered with a sense of humor that extends to the band’s introduction: “It's a Baja Blast for your mind. Wake up and smell the Tios, it's Uncle Time in Los Angeles.”
For listeners curious about where that voyage leads, Tio Presents: Atlantis is available on Spotify and Bandcamp.
