Willie Nelson & Sierra Ferrell Release I’ll Fly Away

Country music icon Willie Nelson and acclaimed singer-songwriter Sierra Ferrell trade verses on “I’ll Fly Away,” the second single from the upcoming Stanley Brothers tribute album Where the Soul Never Dies. Out today, the new recording of the beloved Albert E. Brumley gospel standard and a signature song of the brothers’ repertoire brings together two distinctive voices from different generations for a spirited collaboration that honors the Stanley Brothers’ mountain gospel roots with a nod to the “Willie Nelson and Family” sound.

Nelson brings the unmistakable, weathered phrasing that has defined his singular approach to country music for more than six decades, while Ferrell answers with the bright, old-time voice and spirited delivery that has made her one of the most compelling artists of her generation. The arrangement — which includes an evocative guitar solo from Nelson — evokes the loose, warm, and joyful sound of Nelson’s classic 1970s and ’80s recordings with the Family Band.

The new single features an all-star ensemble: Alison Brown (banjo), Matt Rollings (piano), Stuart Duncan (fiddle), Rob Ickes (resophonic guitar), Trey Hensley (guitar), Garry West (bass), and Josh Day (drums).

“I’ll Fly Away” is among the star-studded tracks on the upcoming release Where the Soul Never Dies: Celebrating 80 Years of The Stanley Brothers, a multi-artist tribute honoring the enduring legacy of Ralph and Carter Stanley. The Stanley Brothers’ distinctive harmonies, emotionally charged songwriting, and hard-edged mountain sound helped shape bluegrass and country music for generations, and earned them a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame this year.

Produced by Alison Brown and Garry West, the album brings together an extraordinary roster and will be released on November 6, 2026.
