Belle Roscoe, the Australian sibling duo of Matty and Julia Gurry, continue to expand their rising international profile with the release of their new single “Last Good-Bye From New York.” The track offers a first glimpse of their forthcoming EP Talking To The Walrus, set to arrive later this year.
Blending the sun-kissed folk-rock spirit of the 1970s West Coast with modern Americana textures, Belle Roscoe create a sound rooted in warm analog tones and luminous vocal harmonies. At the heart of “Last Good-Bye From New York” are the siblings’ intertwined voices, delivering a cathartic love song that captures both the thrilling pulse and the lonely undercurrent of New York City. The track feels like a campfire song drifting through Times Square on a snowy winter night.

The song immediately draws listeners into its emotional landscape as Julia’s honest, vulnerable vocals open the story. Soon Matty’s harmonies arrive, creating a layered conversation of truth, grief, and hope—the natural stages of letting go after a long-term relationship. When the band enters during the second verse the dynamics quietly lift, and the bridge reaches an emotional crest as Matty’s harmonica adds a burst of soaring optimism.
Julia explains the song’s deeply personal inspiration: “‘Last Good-Bye From New York’ is ultimately a farewell love letter inspired by personal heartbreak. In my search for new love and courage, I travelled alone to New York to discover the city for the first time. At 4 a.m. one morning I was awoken by the city’s sirens and the sound of snow falling onto the nearby fire escape. In the spirit of Audrey Hepburn playing guitar on the windowsill in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I picked up a guitar I had borrowed from my dear friend Jake Szufnarowski and began writing.”
The track was recorded live in a single take at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, bringing together an impressive group of collaborators. Grammy-winning producer Matt Ross-Spang—known for work with Jason Isbell, Margo Price, and Calexico—guided the session, while musicians from The Alabama Shakes and The 400 Unit contributed to the recording. Engineering was handled by studio owner Andrija Tokic, whose credits include Alabama Shakes and Phosphorescent. To preserve the warmth of the performance, the session was recorded entirely analog and direct to tape.
An accompanying music video for the song is expected soon, filmed as an intimate studio performance at Buffalo Studios earlier this year.
Originally from Melbourne and now based in London, Matty and Julia Gurry have been making music together since childhood. That lifelong connection gives the pair a rare musical intuition, allowing their harmonies and songwriting to flow naturally. Early releases from Belle Roscoe have included a collaboration with French pop icon France Gall, a fresh interpretation of The Stone Roses’ anthem “I Am The Resurrection,” and a heartfelt rendition of John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero.”
The duo have also built a reputation for inventive live performances. They headlined the Australian Pavilion during Expo 2020 Dubai (held in 2022) and once staged a memorable lockdown “tour” of London’s River Lea, performing three sets atop a narrowboat as it drifted along the waterway.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Gene Clark, Neil Young, and Khruangbin, Belle Roscoe are poised to reach an even broader global audience. The duo sold out several London shows in 2023—including appearances at Camden Club and PizzaExpress Live—and are expected to announce additional tour dates soon.
